Episode 202: This episode was recorded October 13, 2024 and published October 15, 2024.
The time you have to get the attention of someone who watches your video depends on a lot of things.
In this episode, I’m going to share a trick I learned in video production and a tool I use from my journalism writing class, which I use for all my videos and other media projects. I share a bunch of insights with you!
I use the Five W’S: Who, What, When, Where and Why to decide if I only have 4 seconds or a bit longer at the start of the video to capture the viewer's attention before they move on.

Episode 201: This episode was recorded October 3, 2024 and published October 8, 2024.
A really fun conversation getting to know the chairman of San Diego Comic Fest, Matt Dunford. SD Comic Fest takes place October 25-27, 2024.
Matt is passionate about comics and has a connection to some of the most incredible celebrities in the industry, and yet, he is quite humble. Matt and I talk a bit about mobile filmmaking from his perspective, and his thoughts on ’28 Years Later’ by Danny Boyle, shot with iPhone and funded by Hollywood studios. But in this episode, you’ll enjoy a fun conversation where Matt shares intimate stories of his connection to the comics industry.
Matt shares how he learned to read with comics, his first San Diego Comic-Con experience, and then we discuss his role in the Netflix Emmy award-winning documentary series, “Love on the Spectrum.” Matt is in the first episode of season 2.

Episode 200 was recorded September 25, 2024 and published October 1, 2024.
We made it to episode 200 and we made it special. We welcome back Aaron Nabus and Dhwani Shah to celebrate with Susy Botello. October marks our 7th year and this episode is a landmark.
Join us for a fun and entertaining discussion with Susy, Aaron. It begins with the big news from September 19: Why is a movie filmed entirely with the iPhone spending 75 million dollars? We discuss the film, 28 Years Later, by Danny Boyle starring Cillian Murphy.
Susy shares how the idea of podcasting began in 2007 with GarageBand. But it was in March 2017 when she was inspired to launch the podcast with a long list of potential guests.
We also discuss mobile filmmaking with Dhwani and the inaugural FilAm Creator Con that launched September 14 by Aaron in San Diego.

We are happy to bring Jason Rivera back to the show for this episode to discuss the topic of storytelling for your film with music. Joey Min and myself enjoyed an in-depth discussion with Jason.
Jason is a film composer and he's scored many films. His technical knowledge and professional experience began when he was four years-old writing and playing music.
You won’t want to miss a second of this episode if you’re thinking of turning a story into a film, even if you’re not shooting it with your smartphone. The language of music and storytelling speaks to all of us through films.

Episode 196 was recorded July 18, 2024 and published September 3, 2024.
Mark Hadlow is my guest in this episode. He’s also one our Honorary Ambassadors for the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego. He was a protagonist in a feature film shot with iPhone in New Zealand with Jed Brophy, “Blue Moon.”
Mark was one of the judges for the IMFF feature film competition 2024. He shares his thoughts on the winner of this year’s feature, “A Long Afternoon” shot in one take with iPhone 13 Pro Max, directed by Sohibanoo Zoghadr.
We discuss acting, including his experience with “Blue Moon.” He also discusses his role in “Mortal Engines.” This is an insightful conversation with a dedicated, experienced, and in my opinion, venerated actor and friend from New Zealand. Mark is one of New Zealand’s most respected actors.

Episode 192 was recorded July 13, 2024 and published August 6, 2024.
Dhwani Shah's film, "Sapling" won the First Prize in the Short Film Competition in the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego. Dhwani and her team attended the festival in person in April 2024.
I had an introspective conversation with Dhwani about filmmaking and the making of her winning film. It’s evident in our discussion how talented and skilled Dhwani Shah is as a film director, writer and editor.
It was a great honor to discuss the craft and art of filmmaking as a language.
“Cinematography comes from photography, comes from, you know, fine arts and painting and compositions…all those disciplines are really old, but the one true language of filmmaking is editing.” Dhwani Shah

Episode 188 was recorded June 27, 2024 and published July 9, 2024.
Jack Lugar and I met in July 2018 during a lecture I presented at the inaugural Indy Shorts International Film Festival in Indianapolis. Jack was one of the judges for IMFF 2024 and will be back for the International Mobile Film Festival 2025 in San Diego, California.
We have an incredible discussion about his background in LA working as a writer and producer for television, with some shows you will probably know, and working in studio lots. Jack is now working full-time as the cinema and arts professor and runs the film program at Anderson University. When he’s not teaching he’s making films, writing books, and helping students produce their own films as executive producer.
We talk about $100k cameras, smartphone cameras, the importance of storytelling, apps, AI, screenwriting and more!

Once in a while, you come across a name you know you want to remember and Réka Shikli is one to keep an eye on.
She began writing and making films at an early age with her parents camera and evolved into writing, producing and directing films. A unique story how seeking a film grant brought her family together through a smartphone and storytelling.
Never judge a filmmaker by the length of a film shot with a smartphone and never underestimate the filmmakers you meet in San Diego at the International Mobile Film Festival.
Listen to this in-depth conversation with Reka Shikli from Canada, talking to us from Hungary.
Disquiet was shot on iPhone 11. Director, writer, editor & producer: Réka Shikli; Cinematographer: Kinga Shikli; Cast: Sofi Shikli, Laszlo Shikli; Composer: Frank Dormani
