  • What a journey this past 6 months has been.

From the initial concept of building a podcast to producing 28 amazing episodes, I’m really proud of the work that the STRIVE 365 team have achieved so far.

With the festive season around the corner, it’s time to take a pause from releasing new content, for now. We will be taking the chance to record with some amazing new guests and to refine the way the messages are delivered.

In this episode, I wanted to take a look back at some of the great guests through season 1 and preview 2025 and I feel by doing this with one of our constant listeners would be a fun way to recap. So I would like to welcome along, sporting parent Jordan Willis to the “STRIVE 365 season 1 recap”.

  • This week's guest is Olli Harder. A football coach who by age 36 had achieved his UEFA Pro Licence, has been the head coach of West Ham Women’s in the WSL and been an assistant coach with the Norway men’s and women’s youth sides.

Now, that is an impressive CV. What is equally impressive, is that he is a Kiwi coach!

This is a great conversation, understand what it takes to make it in the real world of HP coaching, outside of the glitz and glam of seeing the world,

  • Today I’m honoured to have on the All Time Appearance record holder for Australian Mens Football, Leigh Broxham on the show.

Brox has been there, through thick and thin since day 1 of the club and his endeavours were eventually rewarded with a Socceroo’s cap.

Having lived as a professional for 19 seasons, I can’t think of many better athletes to share their wisdom around the constant STRIVING for your dreams and the importance of pushing hard every day to ensure you can stay ahead of the chasing pack.

  • Today I am honoured to have my mentor on the show, Korouch Monsef.

Korouch is not only a top class practitioner, coach, coach educator and diverse thinker, but someone that I owe a great debt of gratitude to, as he challenged me to be better in so many ways during those formative years as a coach and a football development manager.

I was fortunate enough to play under Korouch in two different leagues as well as employ him to lead our talent pathway whilst I was at Coastal Spirit.

Since those earlier days, he has gone on to lead the evolution of football for many coaches and clubs across NZ through his various roles, none more important than leading the advanced coach development courses through NZF.

This was a special episode for me, a slightly different format than past episodes as I attempt to highlight the pivotal role that mentors can provide us all, as well as the value of ongoing education.

  • Today I welcome an old mentor of mine (of sorts), Ken Lynch to the show.

One of my roles at NZF was the HPAD (High Performance Athlete Development) Manager, where I reported into Ken, in his role at HPSNZ as the National HPAD Manager.

Prior to his time in NZ, Ken worked at the Ireland Institute of Sport Head as well as the Olympic Team Manager for Triathlon Ireland at the London Olympics.

Ken has since moved across the ditch and is now the National Performance Pathway Manager for Australian Sailing.

Unlike traditional guests of the pod, Ken offers a unique insight across the systems, pathways and components of our “transitioning athlete”, which is another way of saying the HPAD space.

  • This week we welcome Rob Sherman.

Rob is not only a highly regarded football coach, coach educator, and football development super brain, but also a mentor of mine.

Knowing what it takes to make it as an athlete and as a coach, Rob is uniquely positioned to share his insights and advice with aspiring athletes and coaches. Even more so he is a dad to Drew, an ex-athlete and talented coach in his own right.

Rob has a wealth of knowledge and has spent the better part of 20 years designing environments and developing today's leading coaches in NZ and Australia through his roles leading the Football Departments at NZF, Football Australia and Melbourne Victory.

Rob is currently embarking on a new challenge, leading the Bula Boys (Fijian National men’s football team) as he aims to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

From working with players such as Gareth Bale, to winning a Bronze medal at the London Olympics with the Canadian Women's national team, to laying the foundations for the establishment of the club model and advanced coaching courses, Rob has seen it, done that, and got the t-shirt to prove it.

I always leave conversations with Rob with a new idea, a reinforcement of my progress, or with some food for thought. I'm sure you will experience the same.
