In this engaging episode, Katie and Joe, the dynamic duo behind âKatie and Joe on the Go,â share their inspiring journey of transforming their passion for travel into a sustainable lifestyle and business.
The conversation kicks off with Joeyâs life-changing high school study abroad experience in Costa Rica, which ignited his love for international exploration. The couple recounts their adventures, including backpacking through Europe, living abroad in Berlin, and transitioning from corporate careers to full-time travel content creators. They discuss the challenges and joys of van life, including their ambitious goal to visit all 63 U.S. national parks. Their travels have taken them through epic locations, from the rugged beauty of Alaskaâs remote parks to the diverse landscapes of the western United States.
Katie and Joe candidly share the logistical hurdles, financial investments, and lessons learned along the way, emphasizing the importance of flexibility, perseverance, and embracing the unexpected. The couple also delves into their international travel experiences, highlighting memorable moments like driving supercars in Japan, indulging in local cuisines, and fundraising through a charity motorcycle ride.
They share their insights on balancing passion and work, offering advice for anyone looking to create a life that supports their dreams. Katie and Joe wrap up by discussing future plans, including a return to international travel and their goal of fostering a deeper connection with destinations through slow travel. Their story is a testament to the transformative power of pursuing your passions with purpose and intention.
Takeaway: Katie and Joe inspire listeners to dream big, plan intentionally, and embrace the challenges of turning travel dreams into reality. Their advice to âcut yourself some slackâ and find balance in your journey is a reminder that success and fulfillment often come through patience and adaptability.

We've applied for our Egypt Visa with Atlys and are awaiting its arrival when this podcast aired - We are are happy to report that we received our Visas for Egypt shortly thereafter. Since I had started the Visa application process on my own, Atlys contacted me through What's App (not uncommon for businesses outside the US) and let me know that they needed me to email them some information so they could complete the process. We worked back and forth for a couple of days but they got it done by their deadline. Atlys works like this: you pay the country visa fee up front and they guarantee that they will have your visa by the deadline they set when you apply or they will do it for free. If it's ready by their deadline they will inform you and you'll pay their fee, then you will be redirected to your Visas. Ours were completed by the deadline they had set (even with them needing additional information) and I paid the fee and we now have the visas. We applied for our Kenya visa on our own and received it within a couple of days but it did take me about 1.5-2 hours to get the application completed and submitted. Once I had completed the Egypt one with Atlys, I was given a codes to apply for Visas in Uzbekistan, Kenya, and Vietnam for Free. I would have gladly paid the $40 extra to get the Kenya Visa done for us.

There is nothing better than being able to check off one of those bucket list experiences that you have been dreaming of for a really long time. This year, Melissa and I will be taking an African Safari in Kenya to celebrate our 30th anniversary and a big birthday for myself. We wanted to do something really special to celebrate those occasions so we decided to cross the safari off our bucket list. Weâve done a lot of planning to prepare for this trip, but we thought for the podcast we might help you shortcut that planning and bring an expert onto the show. In this episode we talk to Piper Mackay from Mackay Africa whom we will use for our safari. So grab your olive green pants and khaki shirt as we head to Nairobi Kenya to start this safari.

People are always asking us how we can afford to take these epic bucket list vacations because they think it must cost a fortune. The truth is Melissa hasnât paid for a flight to Europe in years, if ever, in all of the trips we have taken. The problem is that weâve been boxed into using certain brands until our guest this week opened our eyes to a better solution that allows us to be more flexible in how we use reward points to travel. This week we want to share with you some of the secrets to opening new opportunities that you may not know about. We are excited for you to learn from Abby Hatteburg (@wayfarenco) this week on how you can travel for FREE or nearly FREE using her tips & strategies.
