In this episode, Meredith and I discuss bringing orthodontics back into our practice after a break during the pandemic. We reflect on the success we had pre-pandemic, managing 60-70 cases annually, and how staff changes and the pandemic led us to refer all ortho cases out. Now, with the growing demand for orthodontic treatments, we’ve decided it’s time to reintegrate ortho into the practice. We talk about the importance of having a dedicated team member, or "champion," to lead the program, our goals for managing 5-10 cases per month, and the strategies we plan to use, including marketing efforts and leveraging new tools to ensure success.

We need to be effective first, and then efficient second.
In this solo episode, I discuss how we can be effective in our practice. We often set our goals to achieve a certain amount or perform specific procedures. But how can we reach these goals quickly and yield better results? In dental practice, effectiveness and efficiency are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct differences. In reality, we can strive for efficiency as much as we want, but we will eventually reach a limit. On the other hand, being effective means maximizing what we have at our disposal for the greater good.

Updating records comes at a cost of $20 per patient, and conducting this every 3-5 years can significantly boost earnings. Moreover, it offers patients the opportunity to review their progress and identify changes over time. Implementing this strategy may pose challenges, but it ultimately simplifies the role of the treatment coordinator.
Building trust over years of patient interaction enables practitioners to confidently recommend necessary treatments, underscoring the importance of trust and positive experiences in dental practice.
