Atleti v Madrid in the Champions League. The names change. So does the denouement. But the story remains the same. Madrid es Madrid.
This was extraordinary. Here’s how it felt to be in the Metropolitano as it rocked and rolled and then fell apart in disbelief and despair. Only socios - paid subscribers - see the full version of these reports. Please join…

These Barcelona kids are more than alright!!
Barça have taken some serious Champions League beatings in recent seasons, but this was a COMPREHENSIVE 4-1 aggregate win. They’re into the last eight but, beyond the result, Flick will be THRILLED at his young team’s match management tonight.
And Pedri! My my…. We shared a laugh at full time, but his MOTM perf…

Two Champions League final defeats by their city rivals - Lisbon in 2014 and Milan two years later - have marked Diego Simeone. I see it every time these two teams meet. He’s PROVED his team can win against their rival, but if they are to do it now, on the big stage, he might need to let his dogs of war off the leash.Don't miss a single episode. It’s Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu. I will be there and am looking forward to reporting on all the action for you.
Atleti boss Cholo Simeone has taken the fight to his city rivals over the years, but the balance has tilted back towards Real Madrid in recent times. Here’s why the Champions League final of 2014 had a seismic impact on an age-old rivalry.

Real Betis are on the HUNT for Europe, but they’ve got a visit from title-chasing Real Madrid next.
Yet, I think ANTONY could be the difference maker on Saturday evening – and I’ve been telling my SOCIOS all about it today in a longer, more detailed breakdown.

Where do I begin??
Madness, delirium – and magic. An unusually hostile Montjuic, a TORRENTIAL downpour, and a 4-2 lead SQUANDERED! A big missed opportunity from Barça – but Hansi was, at least for the most part, happy.
But full credit to Atléti and Diego Simeone – they NEVER stopped believing. Simeone saw the funny side – but did he REALLY see that 4th goal coming?!
And… there’s ANOTHER LEG! This one was a real joy to watch. Join me, behind the scenes, to relive the chaos….

Los Blancos looked sleepy on Sunday – but they managed to see off Girona. Luka Modric stole the headlines, and rightly so: what a GOLAZO!
Yet it was Barça that stole the lead on Matchday 25, with a WONDERFUL performance from Dani Olmo that reminded me of a certain Dennis Bergkamp.
And Atleti had some fun too: owing in large part to a Valencia tactical DISASTERCLASS, but mainly to the UNBELIEVABLE Antoine Griezmann. 🪄
The title race is enthralling. Here are my takes from a breathtaking weekend….

It’s Saturday, so I’m working at La Liga TV HQ with some of the biggest talents in the game. So I asked two of them, when we got a minute, to predict what’s going to happen across the Champions League draw that was made on Friday.
Vamos!

Now look: I can’t give you all the details of our chat. Our interview was for Champions Journal – and you’ll be able to read it soon!
But I CAN take you along with me, and give you some insight into the little genius, who is SMASHING records that even Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could not match.

This was not the thriller I saw in Manchester. This was a procession.
I was at the Bernabéu, reporting from before the game, at half-time, full-time and from the press conference.
I wonder when we will next see Pep Guardiola here, at the scene of some of his finest victories. I have a theory that might interest you…

Jude Bellingham is at a pivotal moment. His own competitive nature is boiling within him. The Madrid media – and his own club – are claiming the referees are out to get him. And the red mist is never too far away.

I want to tell you about ‘morbo’ in today’s broadcast. It’s tricky to define – think of a leering interest into a game where there’s far more than meets the eye.
Because today’s ‘Derbi de la Comunitat’ will be FILLED with morbo. Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral has coached BOTH Villarreal and Valencia, and has been sacked by BOTH clubs for very controversial reasons.

I’m in Manchester for the Champions League tonight, but I wanted to stop by Old Trafford to remember my good friend, Denis Law, on the day of his funeral.
Denis did extraordinary things for kids in Aberdeen, giving them facilities and opportunities to live better lives. He was a truly wonderful man.
Then it’s off to the Etihad, for a really exciting matchup. Madrid can score, that’s for sure – but are they up to the defensive task of keeping Haaland at bay?
Here are my thoughts….

At close of play tomorrow night, there will still be 45 points to play for. No titles are up for grabs just yet.
But, let me tell you this now: for both teams, a win tomorrow is VITAL. As Atlético prepare a title challenge, and Real set off to Manchester, it’s a make-or-break grudge match in the capital.

Don’t get me wrong – Marco Asensio is a SUPREMELY talented footballer. Creative, visionary and with a great eye for goal, he’s an asset to any manager.
But Unai Emery isn’t just *any* manager. His scrupulous tactical needs will demand that Asensio combines that magic spark of his with an attention to pressing and tracking back too. That didn’t go so well for Marco at PSG…
Villans: listen up. Let me tell you why you should be excited – but cautious – about your new number 21. Give me YOUR thoughts in the comments!

Cristiano has given me a fair few stories over the years.
On this his 40th birthday, I wanted to sit down and tell them to you, in celebration of his iconic career. From his early lessons with Sir Alex Ferguson, to the near STAMPEDE at his Real Madrid unveiling, it’s been quite the ride – and one I’ve been privileged to watch.
So grab a cup of tea, settle in, and I’ll take you with me on a trip round all things CR7.
