Penn State football enters an unprecedented change in the modern landscape of college football this year. For the first time ever, the playoff is expanded to 12 teams. At the same time, the Big Ten's own expansion and removal of divisions means that the Nittany Lions are no longer locked in an eternal battle royal with two of the top five teams in college football in Ohio State and Michigan. With that opportunity, is it now or never for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff to finally reach the postseason?

Penn State starts the march toward that goal today when training camp opens up for the 2024 season. Blue White Illustrated senior editor Nate Bauer joins BWI Live to answer that question and to discuss what he's looking for on Wednesday evening when the team opens up practice to the media.

Finally, you'll hear an exclusive interview with new Penn State defensive end Max Granville. He discusses why he chose the Nittany Lions, why he reclassified to 2024, and his goals for the upcoming year.

It's been just a week since Penn State football missed out on four-star in-state wide receiver Lex Cyus. On today's BWI Live Recruiting Show, insider Ryan Snyder discusses the loss of Cyrus and four-star Texas receiver Taz Williams. We'll also review the team's situation coming out of the official visit and commitment portion of the recruiting calendar and discuss the team's one-last gasp to get a receiver recruit this summer. Finally, we'll review the class as a whole and get Snyder's thoughts on the group.

Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube to be part of the show. We'll take fan questions and discuss what's on your mind in Penn State recruiting. Penn State receiver recruiting continues to lag

Despite heading into the official visit season with a long list of high-quality options, Penn State managed to recruit only one wide receiver for the Class of 2025 during June. Here's the full list of Penn State official visitors and where they committed this summer.
    Corey Simms - USC
    Lex Cyrus - SCAR
    Quincy Porter - OSU
    Matthew Outten - VT
    Jeff Exinor - PSU
    Phillip Bell - Uncommitted
    Lyrick Samuel - PSU
    Taz Williams Jr. - Baylor
    Samari Reed - Ole Miss
    Koby Howard - Uncommitted
    Naeshaun Montgomery - Uncommitted
We'll ask Snyder what he makes of that list and if he expected the Nittany Lions to be in this position in the back half of July. We'll also specifically touch on the decisions made by Cyrus and Williams in the last week.

One last chance to fix it?

While the recruiting drama is never over, college football has one last weekend of recruiting before the team shifts its focus to the 2024 season. The annual Lasch Bash BBQ is next weekend and the team hosts camps during that final weekend. Can Penn State find a quality wide receive to add to the class like they did quarterback Jaxon Smolik in 2023? Snyder will discuss how the Lions will approach the upcoming weekend.

Also, Penn State likes to have drama free recruiting classes that don't have surprises at the end. Can they maintain a drama-free 2025? Or will drastic measures need to happen to ensure the team secures enough talent for the cycle?

    Commitments and reviews

Finally, we'll discuss the team's recruiting win from last week. Three-star defensive tackle Randy Adirika joined the program, making him the first interior defensive lineman in the group. What kind of player is he? Snyder will share what he knows about the Florida defensive lineman.

Lastly, we'll review the committed players in the class and discuss what sort of group Penn State has assembled this year.

    BWI Mailbag quick-hitter

Before we get into the main focus of the show, we take a moment to answer a mailbag question from the Tuesday live show that didn't make it on air. Lions Den member Davidwg wants to know the following:

"If Penn State has two WRs play to the level that Parker Washington did, is that enough for the offense to be able to compete for a big ten title?"

We'll discuss what it means to be on Parker Washington's level as a receiver, the implications of how that would work in the offense, and if Penn State could get to a Big Ten Title with that level of talent.

Five burning Penn State Football training camp questions

As you might expect with me, the questions we're discussing today aren't the headliner topics that have domianted the Penn State news cycle for the offseason. We're digging a bit deeper to find five important questions that need answers for the team this fall.

    5) How will the receiver position shake out positionally?

Fans have focued on the who of the receiver position, but today we'll take a look at the how behind their fit. A football team is like a complex puzzle with pieces that need to fit together in order to get a winning picture. We'll dive into the details of this group and see if Penn State receiver coach Marques Hagans and offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki can make something better from the sum of the parts.

    4) Which sub-package rises to the top?

While the top line starters are still a question, there are interesting battles down the depth chart that also will play out next month. While we're not previewing individuals, we are looking at the inter-positional matchups that will decide the flavor of Penn State's scheme under Kotelnicki in the first month of the season.

    3) Left Tackle Depth

There aren't many questions about who will start at tackle, with veteran Drew Shelton at the top of the depth chart. But is there depth behind him? Who are the players that can present a viable presence on the roster?

    2) What does Penn State's third-down package look like?

Count this on the list of "good" problems to have for the Penn State defense. When the team hits third and long, which players will earn a spot on the defense? From getting after the quarterback to playing in coverage, there are multiple options for defensive coordinator Tom Allen.

    1) Will the plan pay off?

The top question is also the most broad. Penn State head coach James Franklin made a bold strategy choice when installing the team's new offense, defense, and special teams. We'll review that decision and why it matters now.

Penn State football has been on a strong run of commitments since our last BWI Live Recruiting Show. Today, we'll recap the last week of action, preview the upcoming announcements, and take your questions live on the show! Join recruiting insider Ryan Snyder to discuss the wins and losses for the Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail.

If you haven't yet, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel and enable notifications so you don't miss our exclusive interviews, recruiting content, and more!

Penn State official visit weekend recap

Before we get into the good news from last week, we'll first start with the news coming out of the official visit weekend. How did Penn State do with the players that didn't commit? The team had several wide receivers on campus this past weekend, further pressing on the commitment pressure fans feel with only one player in the class.

Who came to campus? We'll discuss how all of that worked out this past weekend. The team also hosted four-star edge rusher and Ohio State commit Zahir Mathis for an official visit. What was the impression and where does Mathis fit into the picture after three edge defender commitments this week? Snyder will give his thoughts on the situation heading into the recruiting dead period.

    Penn State recruiting explosion

Penn State secured seven players in the Class of 2025 in just over a week, bringing the total to 19. We'll review each player, their commitment date, and how they affect the class going forward, starting with Antonio Branch on the 19th and ending with Jayden Woods on the 26th.

How have the last eight days affected Snyder's perception of the class and what does the team need to do between now and the end of the commitment season? We'll discuss, plus take your thoughts!

    Recruiting losses and upcoming decisions

However it wasn't all good news for Penn State. The team lost out on four-star cornerback Brandon Finney and there's been an update in the recruiting process for tight end Andrew Olesh. Snyder will get you the latest detials and context of those recruiting journeys on today's show.

Finally, we'll preview the known upcoming commitment dates that Penn State targets have announced. The wide receiver dam will break in the next four days, with Jeff Exinor and Corey Simms deciding on Friday and Monday. Will Penn State be the pick for either player? Finally, we'll preview JaDon Blair and Taz Williams' decision dates.

    Wildcards: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-wildcards-four-players-in-the-class-of-2025-with-unique-recruiting-profiles/

Penn State football recruiting news keeps flowing, so today's BWI Live show will focus on the biggest news of the week in college football recruiting. We'll cover a substantial loss for the Nittany Lions' recruiting efforts, new changes to college football rules, and the biggest wildcards in the recruiting class for 2025.

Join the show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay embedded in this article. Get the most out of Blue White Illustrated by subscribing to our YouTube Channel! We'll give you in-depth context for our football, recruiting, wrestling content, and more! It's the perfect pairing for your Blue White Illustrated subscription.

Penn State misses out on Brandon Finney
While most of Penn State's recruiting news has been very good for the last week, head coach James Franklin and his staff suffered a defeat late Tuesday night. Four-star cornerback Brandon Finney from McDonogh committed to Oregon over the Nittany Lions in a very close recruiting battle. We'll discuss how missing Finney is a very clear trend for the team's recruiting efforts in 2025 and what it means for the program.

Host Greg Pickel will give his thoughts on the team's ability to pull regional recruits that become national targets during the show, and we'll give you a list of players left on the board that have the DNA to fix the problem for Penn State.

New NCAA Rules change the fabric of college football
The shackles are coming off of college football staff size after a landmark decision by the NCAA Tuesday night. On3 reporter Pete Nakos confirmed a long-held belief that the governing body would expand college football staff size to include any analyst or coach employed by the university. Now, staff like Penn State legend Dan Connor can provide hands-on instruction for players.

Will this give Penn State an advantage? Who does this help and hurt in the landscape of college football? We'll discuss.

However, the rule changes didn't end there. The NCAA changed portions of the recruiting calendar to reflect the modern realities of college football. We'll detail those changes and give a brief overview to the situation. Be sure to check out the site and the BWI Live Recruiting Show on Thursday to learn more.

Wildcards in the Class of 2025

In addition to critical losses in the class, Penn State has a unique collection of talent this year that defies recruiting or positional norms. While the Lions have players in this category each year, eight players fit into our "wildcard" or "underrated" buckets. Today, we'll discuss the four players who are complete wildcards in the recruiting class.

It's a jam-packed event today on the BWI Live Show. Penn State stayed hot on the recruiting trail. We've got an exclusive interview with the university's athletic director, and we're taking your questions! Join us today at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay on the channel or here embedded in this article.

If you haven't, now's the time to subscribe to the Blue-White Illustrated YouTube Channel. Penn State's major prospects will make their decisions over the next few weeks, and you want to know who is joining the program. We'll cover each decision with our Committed series breaking down the recruiting journey for each new Nittany Lion.

Penn State gets its top edge rusher on Monday night

Despite being on vacation, recruiting expert Sean Fitz stops by the show to discuss the massive amount of information that dropped this weekend for Penn State recruiting. He covers each of the latest commitments from Cortez Harris, Jabree Wallace-Coleman, Braswell Thomas, and Max Granville. We discuss the importance of Granville in this recruiting class and how he's a critical commit for new defensive line coach Deion Barnes.

Fitz also discusses Alvin Henderson's and DJ McClary's decommitments over the weekend and previews the next Nittany Lions, whom he expects to join Penn State in the coming weeks.

Pat Kraft discusses Beaver Stadium, NIL and the White Out

Next, Blue White Illustrated Senior Editor Nate Bauer joins the show to detail his conversation with Penn State Athletic Director Pat Kraft. Kraft sat down with Bauer on Monday morning to discuss the program's most pressing administrative issues, including how networks treat the White Out and more. We'll give you an exclusive sneak peek at the conversation during the show, too! Check back later to see the full interview or subscribe to Blue White Illustrated to get early access this weekend.

    BWI Mailbag
Lastly, we're taking your questions in the BWI Mailbag. Each week, we put out the signal for questions the night before our live show to get a pulse of what Penn State fans want to discuss. This week, we're tackling more questions about the White Out, the expansion of the Big Ten and its impact on recruiting, which players are critical to the team's success next season, and more!

Did you miss the Mailbag submission thread on the site this week? Don't worry! You can still join the live chat and ask a question of Bauer live on the show to get his thoughts on your Penn State football questions.

The Penn State football recruiting season is about to close this weekend. But before that, the Nittany Lions host one more official visit group. Will head coach James Franklin and his recruiting staff go out with a bang? We’re discussing that, plus reviewing the work they put in last weekend on the BWI Live Recruiting Show.

Join industry insiders Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder as we break down the recent commitments and breaking news to come and preview the final weekend of prospects on today’s show. Join us live at 10 a.m. on YouTube, or catch the replay on the site.

A closer look at Jahmir Joseph

We’ve covered four-star commit Jahmir Joseph on the BWI YouTube channel already, but since then, our staff has taken a closer look at his skills and film. We’ll start the show breaking that down and discussing what we’ve seen from the top corner on Penn State’s board. We’ll also catch up on what intel Snyder has gained from speaking to recruits and staff this past week.

    Penn State land Antonio Branch

Last night, Penn State football landed four-star safety Antonio Branch out of Florida. The 6-2 safety prospect chose Penn State over Louisville and other southern schools to give the team a solid addition at safety. What led to his commitment to Penn State? We’ll discuss how Anthony Poindexter landed the position of project player and how his recruiting ranking may not accurately reflect his position and potential at Penn State.

    Official visit recap and preview

Penn State hosted some of its most critical prospects of the 2025 cycle along with it’s committed players last weekend. Four-star tight end Andrew Olesh spoke with On3 recently and our experts relay the situation to fans on the show. Which school is in the lead for the Luke Reynolds-type prospect? We’ll discuss that and how the recruiting pitch against Penn State doesn’t totally make sense when it comes to playing time.

Next, we’ll preview the final weekend of official visits. Here’s the list of players attending starting Friday.

    JaDon Blair
    Jabree Wallace-Coleman
    Naeshaun Montgomery
    Max Buchanan
    Cortez Harris
    Koby Howard
    Samari Reed
    LaVar Arrington II

A new edition of the Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is live. Hosts Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel are back with the latest on head coach Cael Sanderson's program. This week's episode is heavy on recruiting talk with news of another honor for Aaron Brooks, as well.

The duo start the show by breaking down the Nittany Lions' Class of 2024. MatScouts and InterMat both recently released their final team rankings for the latest recruiting cycle. Penn State leads both top 25 lists.

It's not a surprise, as the program is bringing six top-100 wrestlers into the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex, including No. 1 pound-for-pound Pa., prep star Luke Lilledahl, who will wrestle at 125 pounds and possibly start this season, in addition to top-15 recruits Connor (No. 5, projects at 197 pounds) and Cole (No. 14/heavyweight) Mirasola from Wisconsin, New York's Zack Ryder (No. 6/174 or 184), Wyoming Seminary standout Joe Sealey (No. 8/165), and Jersey Shore's Brock Weiss (No. 91/157). Those rankings are courtesy of MatScouts. Penns Valley middleweight Ty Watson rounds out this year's signing group. It arrives on campus soon and a few members of it could find their way into the starting lineup. Why did Penn State have another successful recruiting run? Carr and Pickel discuss all of the reasons why.

You can watch this week’s Penn State wrestling show in the video player above and also on YouTube. Or, you can listen at your favorite destinations for audio like SPOTIFY and APPLE.
From there, the conversation turns to Aaron Brooks. The four-time NCAA champ is the Penn State male athlete of the year. It puts him in line to be the Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year. That honor will be announced later this year. Carr and Pickel recap his time in State College as he looks ahead to the Olympic games. He will compete for Team USA at 86 kilograms this summer in France.

The show closes with some notes on Class of 2026 recruiting. Coaches in multiple sports can now contact prospects in that cycle. Who are the early top targets to be aware of? Pickel and Carr discuss the name at the top, Bishop McCort star Bo Bassett, and other top targets to be aware of.

The Penn State football team's anemic passing attack has been the main story for the 2023 offseason. On today's show, we're taking you inside the data that we've assembled to explain why Andy Kotelnicki can fix the passing game and why he was hired to be the next offensive coordinator for head coach James Franklin.

We'll also discuss the roster update that came out on Tuesday afternoon from the football program and some of the notable changes that players have made this offseason.

Get the most out of Blue White Illustrated by subscribing to our YouTube Channel. We provide you with the best live shows, breaking news and podcasts anywhere on the Penn State internet!

    Penn State weight changes

The final Penn State roster update came down Tuesday evening, which is always a good time to review players' changes this offseason. Host Greg Pickel will take you through the notable changes in player body types from the top gainers this offseason. We'll also discuss which changes are the most relevant. What can we learn from Tony Rojas and Abdul Carter's changes? We'll discuss that and more.

    Offensive efficiency under Andy Kotelnicki

On the Tuesday edition of the BWI Live Show, we didn't get to one critical question in the BWI Mailbag that we'll address today. Essentially the question deals with the team's ability to do more with less in the passing game. Can Andy Kotelnicki throw the ball fewer times but get more explosive plays from the passing game?

We've written extensively about this topic and will discuss it on today's show.

The Penn State Football team enters a critical six-week stretch for the team's 2024 preparations. The annual Lift for Life event kicks off that time of year, which happened last Thursday. On today's BWI Live Show, we discuss what we saw and heard and who we spoke to at the event. Join Penn State insiders Sean Fitz and Nate Bauer for sixty minutes of discussion on the team, including your questions and comments! We'll have our weekly mailbag segment to end the show.

Now's a great time to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. With recruiting news surging, you don't want to miss any commitment recap videos or breaking news when it happens.

    Fitz's Recruiting Update

Before we dive into the Penn State Football discussion, we'll start the show with our weekly update on the weekend's recruiting efforts. Fitz gives you a recap of what you need to know about the team's efforts with its latest commit, Jahmir Joseph, its latest miss, and more info from the official visit weekend.

While most of the news centers around the Class of 2025, the Lions were dealt a blow on Monday when 2026 quarterback Dia Bell picked Texas over Penn State. Fitz will discuss how that affects the next cycle and how the team will need to move on from it's top target.

From there, we'll discuss Joseph's commitment and the news from the four uncommitted players who visited campus this past weekend.

Drew Allar: A future number one pick?

Yesterday, Eric Galko, Director of Operations for the Shrine Bowl, posted on X that he believes Penn State starting quarterback Drew Allar can be the top pick in next Spring's NFL Draft. We'll discuss the merits of what Galko said, his reasons for doing so, and the reality of Allar's potential.

    Lift for Life

Lift for Life is more than a charity event raising money for rare disease research, although that's its critical objective. It's also a chance to get a full view of the Penn State football team's progress since spring football. This year, the event coincided with the team's summer media update. So we'll discuss the important comments from head coach James Franklin and his top assistants. We'll also discuss what head strength coach Chuck Losey said when asked for his evaluation of the team.

    BWI Mailbag

Finally, we'll take your questions. You are the star in the BWI Mailbag as we take questions from the live audience during our Tuesday Show. We have also included questions from the Lion's Den that were submitted to the BWI Mailbag Thread. Join the show to have your voice heard!

  • Penn State wrestling continues to be in the news as June rolls along. The Blue-White Illustrated show and podcast dedicated solely to head coach Cael Sanderson's team is back with a fresh episode to get you another week closer to the start of the college season.
Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel start this week's rundown with transfer portal news. Former Nittany Lion Terrell Barraclough was the only member of the program to look for another home following the 2023-2024 season. He's found it. The graduate senior with one year of eligibility remaining will finish his career at Utah Valley. It is about an hour from his hometown in Kaysville, Utah. Barraclough will man the 165-pound spot for the Big 12 program. In the Big Ten, he wrestled all throughout the middle weights and even saw time at 174 pounds during the 2023-2024 season. He was 2-1 in dual meets and 12-2 overall. His career record at Penn State is 42-19. Carr and Pickel dive into why Utah Valley is the right fit for Barraclough.
From there, the duo looks back at the U20 Nationals and U.S. U23 Team Trails. Five future Nittany Lions earned spots on the U20 team, as Second-year PSU wrestler Josh Barr (86 kilograms), Class of 2024 signees Luke Lilledahl (57 kilograms), Zack Ryder (79 kilograms), and Connor Mirasola (92 kilograms), and Class of 2025 commit PJ Duke (70 kilograms) will all represent their country at the U20 World Championships in Spain this September. The Lions do not have a U23 Team member at the moment.
From there, the conversation turns to the outlook for Penn State wrestling at 133 pounds in 2024-2025. Will second-year Nittany Lion Aaron Nagao man the starting spot again? He suffered an undisclosed injury at the U23 Team Trials. It is unclear how that will impact his prep for the fall. But either way, second-year Penn State wrestler Braeden Davis looks to be on a path to bumping up to 133 pounds. Whether he redshirts this year to compete for the job next year or competes with Nagao for it this year remains to be seen. The pair close the show by discussing all of the factors that will go into that decision.
