  • Welcome to this bonus episode of The Power in Motion Podcast.

In this episode, I’m sharing a recent interview I did with Tami Stackelhouse on her podcast, The Fibromyalgia podcast.

I discovered Tami and her work as I was looking for resources to support myself through my own recent diagnosis of fibromyalgia and I can honestly say her podcast has made a huge impact - I’ve learned so much about the condition and what I can do to feel better.

So It was truly an honour when Tami asked me to come and speak on her podcast about my fibro journey so far and how my work and fitness routine has had to shift as a result.

We also discuss diet culture, movement as self care, other ways we can measure health progress, besides the number on the scale, and how we can develop a more positive body image.

Tami was also on my show recently - back on episode 124, where we talked all about how we can come into a friendly and accepting relationship with our body even with chronic illness. You can find that episode here.

    About Tami Stackelhouse

Tami Stackelhouse is doing all she can to give fibromyalgia patients the knowledge, care, and support they need to thrive. A fibromyalgia patient herself, Tami has gone from disabled to having her fibromyalgia in remission. Growing up in a household where dieting was normalized, Al details how she grew up believing that she could not trust herself to make good choices about food and movement, causing her to look for external validation by using tracking apps but never feeling like she was getting it “right”.

Throughout the conversation, Al recounts specific moments of learning to navigate emotions without turning to food, developing healthier habits, and ultimately finding freedom from tracking food and movement.

Notably, she discusses how these personal changes have also positively influenced her parenting, enabling her to pass down healthier emotional and eating practices to her children.

In this episode of the Power in Motion podcast, Dr. Marianne Miller discusses her journey into the field of eating disorder treatment, focusing specifically on binge eating disorder.

In our conversation, Dr Marianne shared her personal experience with eating disorders which led her to do this work.

We discussed the misconceptions around eating disorders and how they can often be left undiagnosed and untreated because people don’t show the stereotypical signs.

We talked specifically about binge eating; what it is and how it’s different from overeating and what leads to binge eating. Dr Marianne shared where people often go wrong in trying to stop binging and how she successfully supports her clients and patients.

You’ll leave this episode with a greater understanding of binge eating and eating disorders in general as well as tangible next steps to take towards recovery.

Our guest today is Dr. Michelle Tubman a Canadian physician who operates from a health at every size approach.

In our conversation Michelle set the record straight on what really contributes to poor health outcomes, and spoiler alert - it’s not the number on the scale. She shared her opinion on the theory that “obesity” is a disease and discussed the very real health risks of repeated weight loss attempts.

You’ll leave this interview with a very clear plan on how to handle the conversation and advocate for yourself if you’re told that your weight is to blame for your health problems and are told that losing weight is the answer

    About Our Guest

  • The holidays are indeed a busy time.

When we’re busy and have lots of additional tasks and social engagements to manage, often the first thing that gets dropped is our own movement practice.

Though it’s easy to feel as if we don’t have time, or can’t justify taking time to exercise when there’s so much else to do, the consequence of putting movement on the back burner is more overwhelm and holiday burnout.

In this episode we’ll help you redefine what’s “enough” and how to take an all or something approach to movement (that’s also joyful) so that you come through the holidays feeling calm and cared for and don’t feel the need to start all over January first.

    Mentioned in the Show:

If you’re a woman who tends to feel overwhelmed and put yourself last during the holidays, but you WANT to prioritize your own wellbeing so that you can roll into the New Year feeling centered, rested and nourished and avoid holiday burn out and New Year’s resolution regret - I have just the thing for you.
