  • This week, we're talking about the Twilight Zone episode "Mr. Bevis." It's the story of a man who is both cluttered in home and mind. But, when the Twilight Zone steps in to try and clean things up, Bevis is left with an important decision to make regarding his identity. Does he accept the special help he is currently receiving, or does he go back to the way things were? In this KOI episode, we're going to take a look at whether or not "Mr. Bevis" should be considered a comedy episode; we'll dive into a bit of a character analysis of Bevis himself, and see if he is portrayed as a likeable figure or not; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, which has to do with cars, emissions, and a 1924 Rickenbacker. So, grab your keys, and let's unlock this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. If you have note seen the episode, go check it out and then come back here for the analysis. • In this week's Twilight Zone episode, we take a look at "The Chaser." This is, in many ways, a typical deal-with-the-devil kind of story--with a few subtle differences. Roger Shackleforth is a man in love, and he's going to do whatever it takes to win the affections of the enchanting Leila. However, as is the case many times in life, be careful what you wish for--or in this case, what you buy in a shady library from a cantankerous professor. (As an at-times cantankerous professor, I know the types. =). In this KOI episode, we're going to discuss what "The Chaser" is trying to say about love and emotions; we'll dive into what makes Professor A. Daemon unique from figures like Mephistopheles from Faust; and I'll reveal my moment of awe. So, grab your keys, and let's unlock this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. • Spoiler alert: we will be discussing important points of the episode, so if you have not yet seen the episode, watch it first and then come back here for our analysis.

A serene, beautiful day on Maple Street, USA. The birds are chirping, children playing, and people washing their cars. All is as it should be, until something unidentifiable flies over head. What was it? No one knows, and that's only the beginning. When technology starts failing all around them, accusations begin to fly. Maybe someone on dear Maple St. isn't who they say they are. Maybe someone is not even from this planet. As neighbors begin to turn on each other, the extraterrestrials need only sit back and watch, as we essentially destroy ourselves. This week on KOI, we're discussing the classic episode "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street." We'll talk about whether or not Steve Brand, played by Claude Akins is a Just Man figure; we'll talk about whether or not we can blame one person more than the others; and I'll reveal to you my moment of awe. Things get even stranger when she sees someone who looks just like her. It isn't long before Millicent finds herself at the end of her rope. • Three men in search of a new home, in a spaceship with little fuel, find themselves on an asteroid that just so happens to contain breathable air, the right amount of gravity, and even people. • Not all heroes love having powers. Such is the case for Lieutenant Fitzgerald--Fitz for short, in this week's Twilight Zone episode "The Purple Testament." This is a story of a soldier with an odd gift--or, perhaps, curse. Fitz knows when death is coming for his fellow soldiers--he can literally see it on their faces. Captain Riker, played by Dick York, does all that he can to help the lieutenant, but it isn't long until he himself begins to don the glowing visage. I won't reveal here how the story ends; you'll either have to watch my plot summery or watch the episode itself. If it were up to me, I'd say, go watch the actual episode. Then, come back and join us as we break down this episode of the Twilight Zone. • Every so often, we experience moments that seem outside of the normal patterns of existence. Nan Adams (Inger Stevens) a young woman on a cross-country trip across the United States, is experiencing just such an event. No matter how fast or far she seems to drive, Nan cannot seem to outrun a particular hitch-hiker, a man--or entity--who seems to have a hidden purpose. This week on Key of Imagination, we're taking a look at the classic Twilight Zone episode: "The Hitch-Hiker." We'll talk about what the hitch-hiker might actually be; we'll try and figure out the purpose of the sailor; and I'll reveal to you my moment of awe. If you're...going my way...consider joining us on this journey through the fifth dimension. • Astronauts on a voyage to stretch the mark of humanity, only to find themselves crashed on an asteroid, or so they think? This week we're talking about the Twilight Zone episode "I Shot an Arrow into the Air." We'll discuss whether or not we actually can land on an asteroid--and possibly if we can live on, or in, one; we'll take a stroll over to Sigmund Freud's house and get a better sense of how our astronauts are affected by the reality principle and the pleasure principle; and I'll reveal to you my moment of awe. • William Sturka, a perfectly normal man in many respects: family, friends, a job. However, he's walking around with a big secret. Namely, a ware is coming, one that will ultimately mean the end of the species. All he can do is grab his loved ones and friends and make a mad-dash for a means of escape. In this week's episode of The Twilight Zone, we take a look at one of my favorite episodes: "Third from the Sun." It's a story that seems even more relevant today than, perhaps, even when Rod Serling introduced it in 1960. We'll talk about how informed/pessimistic Serling's audience was about atomic destruction at the time of the episode; we'll question whether or not Sturka's profession as a scientist alters the way we view his character; and I'll give you my moment of awe. So, grab your keys, and let's get this door to the fifth dimension open.
