This week we dig into some awesome questions from the team.
Covering what resources to have and why for your clients. Do you need a nutrition certification as a personal trainer? and loads more.
Specific questions below;
In particular women 40+/Peri onwards and how to handle advice on increasing protein, lower carbs (if she would advise this) What are the key things that my clients should know when starting out with me and what is the best way to present that information in a way that is easy to digest? What is the main part of your job which gives you the most satisfaction When do you start feeling like a good coach? I feel like my clients are utilising the videos & handbooks that I've created in our group for them - I know that them using these things will help them, but how can I encourage this more without being annoying/putting them off? Whats your take on the typical career path of PT > Gym owner. Having went down the mentorship path yourselves what do you see as other routes of progression for PT's for when they get a bit grey, the unsociable hours are taking their toll and they want to progress. (thats not be saying any of you are old and grey btw š) You don't see many 'older' PT's - where do they all go š Favourite lift? Whatās the best software for delivering educational content in a drip form e.g. loom? Any tips for talking at events... I can spend hours making the perfect schedule. But how do I get the cojones to stick to it? I want to launch another 6 week programme early next year is January to early for an intake? Shall I wait till Feb? My clients don't really do check ins. Is it worth making check ins tailored to each person or am I making more work for myself? How much of your social media content is planned vs spontaneous? How best to find the balance between being supportive and understanding, but also applying appropriate pressure on clients to be accountable to their goals? Worst client you've ever had? Mine was so stubborn and refused to listen to me about leg press ROM (and about anything else really). Another PT approached me and commented how mean I was making him do partials... we were not doing partials. Safe to say we parted ways after that What types of results or improvements have your students typically seen after working with you -
If you have ever 'sacked' a client, how have you gone about it? Best way to help your new and current clients be aligned with the product that you provide. For example, if you're offering SGPT as a service, helping them see it as a full PT service and not just classes. How often should i be contacting my online clients? How to maintain rapport with clients that leave or move on? how often should you be directly advertising your business? like posting that you have spaces or the link to enquire Best time for a PT taster week? Got it planned for December but might delay till Jan to catch gym newbies What resources (books, podcasts etc) would you recommend for ongoing learning and professional development? How would you go about encouraging clients to set goals on their terms, personal to them? How to recognise when you're self sabotaging? And how to overcome it and get into a more positive headspace with having more pressure. I feel like I get to a certain number of clients, and stop doing all the things that I used to because I don't know if I can actually handle that many more. I think this is subconsciously making me hold myself back and a reason why I always seem to get to the same point in my business and drop back. I know the reasons why, but why is it so hard to push through it?!

I've been PTing a client for a year who wanted weight loss and is still 128kg. He doesn't understand how inactive and how poor his diet is even though we have spoke about it on multiple occasions and we have put action plans together in the past but he can't stick to anything for a week never mind longer. How would you address this? What are some things you should consider when deciding on your own facility? Where would you draw the line between using automations in your service and keeping it as individualised as possible? If automations mean the service meets the clients individual needs and they're happy with the experience and results, does it really matter? What sort of things would you use for lead magnets if you only had an hour or two to fill for face to face PT? We all know this is a tough industry, with plenty of challenges and brick walls to run into, what would you say to anyone listening is the most important element of business to just keep doing no matter what? How do I switch off from my business when taking time away to allow me to push hard again and continue being efficient in the business? I'm thinking of opening my doors online and starting to actively try and get some online clients in the next few months. Do you think there's a best (or worst) time of the year to launch new products or services? On the podcast a couple of weeks ago (I think!), you's mentioned if you were to go back into full coaching/facility ownership/have your time again, you'd go the SGPT route. What would be your ideal SGPT business? Just looking for general advice on removing the "ick" from front end marketing. Two sided question:I live in an area with low amounts of disposable income and get a lot of people say they cant afford PT, but I refuse to hold that as a limiting belief and let it lower my pricing.How would you go about creating a higher discrepency between the price and value of your service? / How would you qualify leads to increase the likelihood they have the puchasing power? What were the first things you outsourced when running your business as PTs? Advice on transitioning from gym floor PT to Online Coach

In terms of Studio/SGPT equipment, which brand has a good reputation within in the industry from what you've seen/heard over the years? What do you think makes an online coaching service work and better than others? How can I improve my marketing overtime? What are some major changes to being a PT you think will take place over the next 10 years? What boundaries do you think you should have as a business and PT? What have you seen work for others and yourself that have the most positive impact - feel a bit all over the place at times and do not switch off.
When releasing an online launch is it better to release it as just a new service and hope people sign up or will creating a competition with 5 people 50% off give it more demand/ interest? How to hit lead gen targets in club when very busy with clients and have minimal time? What would you suggest when building a learning platform for clients (for example something similar ish to your PTMA website with the course) After building up my first sizeable chunk of leads on mail chimp, how long should I nurture until I go for the big sell? What happens if you have a client that just doesn't have any goals? For example if they just come to you because without you they wouldn't exercise at all. They are basically just coming because they want to move their body and rely on you just for actually working out.
In your opinion what is the best way to approach people in the gym and start up a conversation? -

How much planning did you put into your giveaway What coaching scenario makes you feel the most out of your depth, and how do you combat that? Who did you aspire to be or what did you dream of doing when you were growing up? What's your opinion on the growing importance of showing who you are on socials, more so now that there is an endless amount of ever conflicting information available to viewers/followers? People are now buying accountability, structure and routine, rather than info on how to train/eat etc. Please advise how to approach this from 1. A sales/marketing perspective 2. How to make it seem valuable to people (they often don't think they need it, they just want the results) 3. How to manage it in our service (i.e. ideas to help the client that we may not initially think of). Thanks. Obviously you guys give us accountability with these check-ins. Being self employed yourselves, how do you guys hold yourselves accountable for your business? biggest PTMA win / success story for you both? Any advice on how to make my content more entertaining/engaging and less boring/factual/educational Ultimate Olympic sport/ athletes? There are some days when I walk into the gym where I work, and I hate it. It's nothing to do with my clients or my job itself; probably, I am just tired of the environment. Is it time for me to change gym, or do I just need a long holiday? :')

How would you approach getting people from classes in the gym onto the email list? Was thinking of printing off a QR code to take them to my landing page but curious to hear how you would handle it What's your end vision for the PTMA in 10 years time? From your experience, what is the best way to keep clients locked in and focused on their goals? Who do you look up to as a mentor, or who have you learned from the most? What was the turning point for you with coaching where you started to feel like you were really getting good at it? Was there a particular client or situation? How would you showcase social proof, whilst switching niches, if none of your existing clients are in your new niche? If we are to put on a workshop do you think a small fee is better than free? For new-ish clients how do you discuss price increases? I.e. for longer serving clients the trust has been build and a small price increase shouldn't be too much of an issue. But if you have someone who has initially signed up at your old price then a month later they get told it's increasing, how to handle that? What do you predict the fitness industry to be like in 10 years time now that AI is becoming more prominent in everybody's lives? How do I know if I'm being direct enough? How do I be more direct? Sometimes I think I actually struggle knowing what this actually means

What kind of things need to be done / in place on a Friday to set you up for the next week. My IG followers really engage with my poll stories but I really struggle to get anyone to answer any question boxes even when they are like a direct question. How do I get people to interact with me other than polls? How to organically create conversations on insta Do you think it's gotten easier or harder to grow a PT business since back when you started? You worked with lots of PT and coaches what's the main mistake or mistakes you see made most that they think they need but honestly is a waste of time? :) What's your most effective way to come up with content ideas? Been trying to plan ahead for my target of 4 socials posts per week and forever struggling with ideas. How would you define a great coach? Do you have a vision of where you would like your business to be in 5 years time or do you take it step by step, setting new goals as you go? How do I start to market for a niche without upsetting other clients who don't currently fit this market?

I'm dropping a shift from my gym at the start of August therefore I will have an extra evening to PT. I currently have classes which are full on that shift but want to try and convert 2 people to PT at that time slot from classes. How would you approach this? I find I have a lot of ideas for content, but struggle with making it visually appealing. How important do you think the design of content is vs the message/helpfulness of the copy? Obviously it needs to look semi attractive If you could have anyone come and do a talk at the November event, who would it be? Do you think that there is common trait/ attitude/ situation that makes for a successful PT? I've been questioning my niche - in part driven by the women I'm attracting and really enjoying working with them. Any questions or checks you would recommend to help solidify and work out if your niche is right for you? I've not put my prices up for 2 years. This year I've heard the price objection more often. Its not so much people think its overpriced but more it cant fit into their budget. Which I understand. Afterall, costs have shot up this past year or 2. What would you be focusing on to really drive home the value of your service? What are the best ways to market in a large commercial gym? How do you stay focused on the present and what you're doing instead of always looking for new opportunities/offers to release? What is the best method for somebody who lacks confidence to market their business/services? How would you go about building more confidence on social media? Especially when putting an offer out there. I have a client who is leaving the service for a few months (likely till the end of the year) for an operation.What would be a good approach for ensuring they are touched base with regularly to ensure they want to start back up again in new year?
-
I don't want to call my online coaching, online coaching but I want it to be clear it's not personal training. Any ideas? How did this prep day compare to previous ones for you? How do increase engagement in a FB group that is being used as a lead magnet. I have started going live in my womens only group but there is still no real interaction or engagement. What are your thoughts on niching down on the gym floor? In the sense that online coaching from a training perspective lends itself to someone with a bit more training experience vs gym floor lending itself more to either beginners or people who want to learn new stuff etc. 3 ideas to quickly generate consultations either from cold leads or other ways (for a non-gym floor PT)
-
How much should you let the commercial gym you work in effect your business? This could be quite a broad question. What would you say is the minimum Sq/Ft requirement for a small SGPT facility??? Any top tips on running a successful 5 day facebook group challenge as a lead magnet If you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be and why? Any advice for starting a whatsapp group chat for clients with less than 5 people?I've wanted one for a while, but I'm worried that the low numbers will impact their perception of the business. Do you think people value coaching more in certain towns and cities due to the demographic? Or is this what PTs tell themselves to feel better when they are having a bad month? Price rises - how often would you do, what % would you increase by (I know it depends but what would you consider) and how would you manage with relative newcomers? As in, might have only been with me a few months before a price rise comes in.
-
Any advice on how to get a back and forth conversation going with busy clients who struggle to find time to really reflect and think about things?I like asking open questions in my check in feedback, to encourage clients to come up with their own solution to things, but I feel like a lot of the time, they struggle to find time to stop and think because they're always on the go I'm about to do a lead magnet which I think could be popular. How would you assess how many clients you could take on at one time? I currently have 15 clients face to face in a mixture of 1-1 and SGPT and 1 online client for a little context. How do you go about scheduling in holidays/time away from the business?. And, how much time should be spent looking at the bigger picture? Do you think gym classes are a great place to pick up clients or are they typically the members who won't pay for PTs, which is why they do the free classes? Describe to me one of the best coaching sessions you've delivered in your career. How did you do it, what was included, what made it so good etc. Whatās your opinion on having a link tree style thing on Bio on instagram? For day passes, book a call etc or is it better to have one link to the main thing you are selling? If you had to start again a pick a completely new niche for your coaching businesses, what would it be and why? How many posts about our collaboration giveaway is too much? I'm afraid of driving people away from my 1-1 business. You've got 130+ leads form a giveaway comp, leading to a 2 week 7 day trial offer. You've got the next 2-3 weeks to nurture those leads and convert up to 10 into clients. What you going to do? Every business is different but what revenue: marketing ratio do you typically see? I'm investing in marketing and have invested since the start but it often feels like a massive outlay!

Whether you're moving from face to face coaching to online, adding it as a scalable option, or adding in face to face to your online service.
How much to put into something and not let go of the current business?
It's all about having clear objective from the business in my opinion, and we break it down here in this episode.
Any tips for overcoming perfectionism and getting shit done? Could you break down a weekly content plan overview for me. I need to get back to having more structure with this as I am a random poster unless I have a lead magnet or launch to focus on. I post 7 days per week, what would you do MON / TUE / WED /THU / FRI /SAT /SUN ?how would you theme/ structure a week of posting ? Biggest regrets in your own PT Business, before starting the mentorship? Serious case of imposter syndrome at the moment and comparing myself to others on social - everyone seems to be smashing it. Shall I unfollow everyone in the PT and coaching space to help me? I probably need to watch your session with Dan don't I? How would you balance your time between in person and online coaching to make sure neither are neglected? If no one ever answers my Q&A boxes on Instagram how do I come up with live topics for my IG audience. What are the questions you would ask yourself to know if your why is truly your why, or whether you're just bullshitting yourself? -
What are some good options for a kid friendly, physical challenge to do at an event? (Not smoothie bikes...) 1. When I follow up, people are ghosting me or not replying. What am I doing wrong? Thanks2. When practising motivational interviewing techniques over whatsapp, for example, I find the method clunky compared to face to face conversation - you can't really use reflections... (when I do the answers people give are v. short and closed), so I end up using more open ended questions. Any advice pls for getting people to open up on written text vs 121 conversations? Thanks How would you both get referrals from clients? As SGPT starts to grow in popularity, I don't know if its just me, but I seem to be noticing more mentor types talking (in advert etc) about it. I feel, like anything in this industry, that this is going to be the next thing to get twisted and turned into something it maybe isn't. I don't know if you guys have noticed anything along these lines? Could you reiterate to anyone listening what SGPT is? If a client goes quiet and doesn't check in or respond to a direct message, what would you do? Keep the monthly rolling contract going or approach them and ask them if they want to terminate? (bearing in mind this person is doing this with their partner, and their partner is an absolute dream to work with). Do client referal codes work? How long did it take for you to get completely comfortable recording videos and hearing your own voice back on camera? In your experience, what holds coaches back the most from achieving their business goals? self belief, poor systems, lack of clarity, shit product etc. How do you get a client to see she needs to move away from tracking (food and her body) and work on her RWF and her body image? Tips for getting more engagement/ interaction from followers

Questions covered this week include;
If a new client signs up, but wants to delay starting for a month or so, what would you do in the time before they start to keep them "warm"? What plans have you got for the future of PTMA? How do you both measure success? What is a hobby or interest that you have that people would be surprised about? I live in a poor area where people have very little disposable income. How would you overcome this to attract people who do have more financial flexibility, possibly from other areas if need be. There is no women's heath/ fitness community group within my area and I want to create one. Is there any advice you would give about creating one? SGPT clients logging their workouts. App or notebook? I think I prefer the idea of handing them each a notebook for them to keep and fill out after each set rather than a room full of people on their phones? Still struggle with setting conversation/lead targets (I know they should come from prev campaigns) but guidelines for IG, FB, GF, Thanks -
TIME > 00:30 "Do you think certain times of the year peak and drop off for people wanting PT? If so, should you plan when to do a big intake of clients or stay consistent all year round?" TIME > 4:54 "Looking back on Quarter One, I still feel too much time is spent on marketing and lead gen compared to planning, creating and continuing a top notch banging service for present clients. How would you approach finding a better balance?" TIME > 7:05 "Are there any jobs/bits of education you've had over the years outside of the fitness industry that have served you as a coach?" TIME > 9:33 "I'm getting close to being full for face to face PT, but still have a few enquiries coming in.I know how up and down business can be, and how quickly things can change. Where one month your smashing it, and the next a couple of clients drop off.The temptation is to strike whilst the iron's hot, take those people on and just "suck up" being over-busy in the short term, because I know people will leave eventually and I could be sat here in 2/3 months thinking about how I could do with those extra clients.Thoughts?" TIME > 12:17 "In a SGPT setting when I have total newbies, my longer standing clients get less attention - I know they are capable and can do it. In these situations how would you turn this into a positive with these older clients? I've messaged them to say what stars they are and how I trusted them with those movements but what else could I be doing?" TIME > 16:25 "What's your opinion on networking and is it important for developing your knowledge and/or business?" TIME > 18:00 "Even though my IG is targeted for women why is it when I post stories like 'click the button to find out more' that only men tap it?" TIME > 19:30 "Thinking long term. How does one scale a business without having to be there all the time. I was thinking I canāt be a pt forever as Iāll get old but how would I secure my future where Iām looked after ā„ļø" TIME 23:54 > "How do you deal with clients who aren't getting results as quickly as you expected and clearly aren't fully adherent with the programme you agreed with them? It's easy to start questioning coaching ability." TIME > 26:57 "Both of you - If you were to start your career again tomorrow, what 3 things would you do differently? How many different mediums would you suggest using? The more the better but what would you say is the minimum to build relationship and display your value? For example: gym floor, email, facebook, instagram, posters etc What are some other ways of delivering content on social media? I've been doing 45-60s talking to camera reels and carousels but feel the need to mix things up delivery wise How would you best keep track of clients current wants, needs, goals and all these individual elements if you tend to be a little bit forgetful?! If you were to start social media again, would there be anything you would do differently and what 3 things do you think helps with coming across as yourself and not a persona. I am taking too long to do things - it takes hours rather than minutes. I also go into way too much detail and struggle to keep things simple. I think more is better. I also talk too much. How can I reframe my thoughts into thinking less is better? Client goes on holiday and misses 1, maybe 2, sessions. You have them on a monthly DD, not block booking. Do you pick up their missed sessions or do they forfeit them and how do you approach that conversation if it's not been clear in your T&C's. How do you stay focused when there are more distractions than usual (school holidays, relationship stress etc)
