Whether it comes from outside the community, or within racial lines, criticism of afro-textured hair is rampant. For many WOC it feels like unless you have Becky-textured tresses your hair (especially your edges) is just not acceptable. But why is afro-textured hair such a big deal? The short answer is âOf course not!â That said, many women of color still feel that it is not âsafeâ to wear their unprocessed hair in the office. There is simply too much pressure to conform to a standard that was not created with textured hair in mind.
