Mark Direen is a former Australian Special Forces (SASR) soldier with a 20-year military career, including five deployments to Afghanistan. Wounded in an IED attack in 2007, he returned to duty just six months later. After leaving the Army in 2009, he worked in security at the Australian Embassy in Kabul before moving into expedition guiding across remote regions including Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, and Tasmania. His post-service life reflects his operational mindset: adapt, improve, and keep moving forward.

Prior to his work on Capitol Hill, Adams served as a commissioned officer in the US Army. He deployed multiple times to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as to Jordan and Iraq during the Global War on Terror. After ten years on active duty, he transitioned to the Army Reserve. Adams holds a BS in political science from Boise State University and a master of international public policy from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.

Dr. Kate Rocklein earned nursing degrees from Queen’s University, Loyola University, and Rush University, and holds a Certificate in Higher Education Teaching from Harvard. She is a Canadian Certified Nurse Educator and has served in both civilian and military health systems, including as Chief Nursing Officer of Columbia/Presbyterian’s COVID hospital during New York City's 2020 surge.
Since 2010, Dr. Rocklein has advised presidential cabinets, the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and senior military leadership on combat polytrauma and neurotrauma-related suicide, contributing to bipartisan defense legislation. She has led over $13 million in federally funded interdisciplinary research on critical care innovations, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and suicidality among healthcare workers and veterans.
An expert in curriculum design and accreditation, she has also promoted equity and inclusion initiatives in higher education. Dr. Rocklein serves on advisory boards addressing military-related brain injuries and suicides and has been recognized for excellence in clinical practice, research, teaching, and public service by institutions including the US Army, Rush University, and Queen’s University.

Col. (Ret.) Frank Sobchak, PhD, has taught at the US Military Academy at West Point, the Joint Special Operations University, Tufts University, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a BS in military history from West Point, a MA in Arab studies from Georgetown University, and a PhD in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. During his twenty-six-year career in the US Army, he served in various Special Forces assignments including leading teams and companies in 5th Special Forces Group advising foreign militaries and representing US Special Operations Command as a congressional liaison. He served in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and in combat in Iraq. His final assignments included garrison command.
He led the Army effort to publish an official history of the Iraq War. That effort spanned five years and included the declassification of over 30,000 pages of documents and several hundred interviews in addition to having access to a similar sized set of documents and interviews that had not yet been released. The project’s culmination resulted in the publication of the 1,500-page two-volume set, The U.S. Army in the Iraq War.
