  • Daniel J. Gregory is a fine art photographer, mentor, and photo educator. He teaches fine art printing, color concepts and theory, portfolio creation, Photoshop, Lightroom, and a variety of analog photography courses. Daniel has always been interested in how photography helps us see, listen, and experience the world. His work explores the importance of developing meaningful connections to a place, person, or environment. With over 300 episodes, Daniel is the host of the Perceptive Photographer podcast that focuses on the creative aspect and internal struggles photographers face creating meaningful work.

In this episode Daniel shares the elements of making meaningful work - voice, vision, signature and style. You'll find out how and why creativity is at the core of everything Daniel spends his time doing. We discuss the difference between living a life of photography and living as a photographer. We explore Dorthea Lange's wise words, "the camera teaches me to see" and how large format, alternative processes, and the darkroom allow an exploration of time. Daniel explains that when photography works, it puts us in the present - out of the regret of the past or fear of the future. You may begin to recognize a photograph as a relationship, something that is given to you not taken by you.

  • Growing up surrounded by the vast prairie of the Canadian north and tales of faraway places, Renée Robyn has chased the perfect backdrop around the world. Approaching photography like a treasure hunter, her compositions are uniquely cinematic, often becoming pieces of a bigger world represented beyond reality. Renée’s style is easily recognizable and distinctly her own. Expertly blending fact, fiction, and a little digital alchemy, she has worked with industry-leading brands like Wacom, Viewsonic, Corel, Capture One, and Intel. Comfortable facing down gale force winds, climbing fog-shrouded mountains or fast pace commercial studios, her work is impressive and committed. An expert retoucher, Renée applies the same level of commitment to post-processing, leveraging her mastery of color theory, editing, light, and shadow in the digital realm of Photoshop.

In this episode we discuss one of Renée's mottos, "If life is pushing on me very hard, I push harder." Hear how she approaches getting back up after challenging times, including when she was run over by a car and had to relearn to walk. You'll be reminded why resilience is one of the most essential human qualities. Reframe what the word 'quitting' means and consider it just taking a break. Renée confirms that we all have our own paths and encourages staying true to what is best for you. Learn why Renée is motivated to do good in the world by fueling other's creativity, whether that's by teaching or through her own art. Explore the idea that selfishness and selflessness are not mutually exclusive.
