  • Can you be okay with not having the answers? We try to explain so many things in life, and so much of it is just a bunch of bull-crap!

Are you comfortable with silence? When we are still, we can feel into what is happening rather than talking about or explaining it. Opening to the mystery of life, the deepening. To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly. Breathing a sigh of relief of not knowing. How exciting to not know what's next.

Curiosity is not asking why but moreover has a quality of openness. Can you be open to the mystery?

  • Talking about poop is often considered taboo in our culture, but it’s time we normalize this conversation! Our diverse styles of poop are like nature's colorful palette, with each hue and shape telling a unique story about your health and what’s brewing in your gut.

Your poo can serve as an indicator light, revealing what’s going on in your body. We have two brains: one in our head and another in our gut. There are many neurotransmitters in the gut, and 70% of your immune system resides in your belly. When your inner plumbing isn’t regular, you may feel unwell, and toxins can re-enter your system instead of being eliminated.

Psyllium is a great way to get things moving for some people, along with eating fruit peels and high-fiber foods. Remember, every poo is like a snowflake—none of them are the same! Your colon health is crucial, as it affects all systems, including our mental health. Feel free to let me know if you need any more adjustments!

  • Changing the narrative as we age is what our podcast is all about. Our bodies and our mind does change as we get older. When we resist where we are at in life, it can cause suffering. We desire comfort so much because aging is a very mysterious process. To sit or be with discomfort, sadness or jealousy, we can more easily allow these challenging feelings to move through us rather then sticking to us. We can’t ever really know how someone else is feeling. Allowing someone to be in their own pain can be a grace.

Eddi says she can now understand how older people are drawn to cruising as you don’t have to move your hotel as you travel around and see many different places. So this is a way that Eddi is embracing her aging, changing world. We are not trying to speed nor are we resigned in our specific age, but more so to just being okay and open to where we are at now. Welcoming the changes with a tenderness for yourself. Enjoying where you are at, with every stage of your life is a beautiful thing.

  • Aristotle said that getting to know yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. Anything in life is either growing or dying. It's part of the natural cycle of life. But what does this have to do with your own life?

We naturally want to eat more rooted winter vegetables as it grows colder and do more hibernating-type things. It's almost like an inward movement, the cooler weather as we wear warmer clothing and it gets dark earlier. It's a time for less doing and maybe more introspection.

When we get to midlife, sometimes we question whether we know ourselves anymore. So going inward in the winter months can be a good time to reassess. It's never too late to know yourself or reacquaint yourself with where you are now.

  • Food is a form of healthcare. Today Dr. Eddi shares the hidden sugars in many of our foods and discusses how sugar creates acidity and causes inflammation. We also share healthy alternates for the sweet tooth in us all. The reason why we love the bun that comes with a take out burger is because it is loaded with sugar. If you cannot pronounce many of the ingredients on a package, your body probably probably doesn’t understand it either.

Can you switch to natural sodas? Make small changes consistently and soon you’ll be off sugar!

Here is a list of healthy sweetener and sugar choices that do not spike your blood sugar: Stevia, Monkfruit, Inulin, Erythritol. Costco has a great blend of monk fruit and erythritol that is excellent and looks and tastes just like sugar and great to cook with.

This is the list of unhealthy sweeteners you want to avoid: Aspartame, Sucralose/Splenda, Saccharin, high fructose corn syrup.

  • What lies beyond the ego? It’s awareness and oneness, present moment and love. Ego is what allows us to experience life as a seemingly separation person. The identification to the ego is what causes problems and the attachments to things outside of ourselves. Needing validation is part of the ego. As we know ourselves, we grow ourselves. As we grow older we can either become more identified with our roles and jobs and money or less identified. Eddi finds herself softening into her life and into her authentic self. When we know better, we do better. When you are laughing, when you look into another’s eyes, when you are doing something you love, you are present and your mind is not wondering.

  • We do body detoxing, so how about an emotional detox? When and how long do you vent with your friends and how do you move on? When does it become toxic? Noticing what is alive and true by asking yourself, “what do I know for sure?” This is how you know if you are present or if you are creating a larger un-true narrative. You project into the future and you regress and focus on past hurts but what about staying present to what you know for sure.

  • Have you ever had a stressful day and have not been able to use the tools you have read about? Eddi has one of those days, a day where she has had to use her tools. Sometimes we have the books on the shelves, some of which we have read and some not. We have heard the podcasts and the common buzzwords like Living in the Moment, The Present Moment is a Gift, Don’t React but Respond. But when you are having a stressful busy day, and every person in your life and your animals need you, how can you use your tools! See the Job, Do the Job, Stay Out of Misery is one of Corrine’s favorite sayings that works for almost everything. It’s the resistance to what is happening that can add on to life’s daily stress that can make it overwhelming. Allow and having an openness to what is happening can be so helpful.

Your body is always in the now but your mind has a time machine. So sight, sound, touch, taste and smell and your breath are your anchor into the now.

  • Today we are talking about what Speeds Up the Aging Process. We are all aging no matter what our chronological age is. Aging and dying is a very natural process. Then why do so many people fight it? We are pro-aging! If you live in an old house or have an old car, you need to take extra care of it. So how does that relate to the body?

Addressing disfunction in the body or finding the root cause, can help in prevention in disease. Every symptom is a sign. We are rusting! That is what the aging process is.The body is like an iron bridge and normal wear and tear without maintenance and repair work along the way leads to faster aging, faster rusting.

Here is a list of the major agers!
Poor diet: Consuming excessive amounts of fatty, high-cholesterol, salty, sugary and processed foods can increase the risk of age-related diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome .

Inadequate exercise: Lack of regular physical activity can lead to muscle loss, weakened bones, decreased mobility, and increased risk of chronic diseases associated with aging .

Unhealthy habits: Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and drug use can speed up cellular aging and increase health risks .

Insufficient sleep: Not getting enough quality sleep can negatively impact many bodily functions and accelerate aging .

Excessive sun exposure: While some sun exposure is beneficial for vitamin D production, too much UV radiation can damage skin and accelerate visible signs of aging .

Chronic stress: Prolonged stress can have detrimental effects on physical and mental health, potentially accelerating cellular aging.

Environmental factors: Exposure to pollution, toxins, and other environmental stressors may contribute to premature aging.

Genetics: While not entirely under our control, genetic factors can influence how quickly we age .

Chronic inflammation: Persistent low-grade inflammation in the body is associated with many age-related diseases and can accelerate the aging process .

Poor lifestyle choices: Factors like obesity, sedentary behavior, and social isolation can contribute to faster aging .

To promote healthy aging, it's important to focus on maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management, social connections, and avoiding harmful habits. Making positive lifestyle choices can help slow down the aging process and improve overall health and wellbeing as we get older.

    Food Ideas:
Keep grains low. No processed sugar. Eat fermented foods including pickles, kimchi and even sour dough bread. Lots of veggies. Try to get 12 hours at night before you eat your morning meal to give your digestion a bit of a break.

Dr. Eddi's List of Major Agers: Sugar, alcohol, smoking, poor sleep, poor bowel, little movement, poor diet, no self time, too much thinking, emotional chaos, not enough connectivity, not enough meditation, too much exercise, sun damage, toxins in and on the body, infections and genes.

  • The algorithms of your habits are well worn grooves so it is important to diversify. Stretching yourself more and more to do the opposite of what is easy and natural for you. Eddi shares that she has transitioned to swimming after a knee injury that has cut into her pickleball schedule. She rides her edge with water things since she almost drowned when she was young. Don’t let your body stop you and find something that works in your life for some movement. Set up new algorithms! It may surprise everyone to know that change is not about discipline but more about motivation and what motivates you.

  • Where Peace Resides: Finding Calm Here Now. With so much going on in the world right now, it can seem harder and harder to find peace and calm. There is truly always chaos going on somewhere in the world. Do you focus on what’s wrong in the world? How much time do you spend on things out of your control. Where your attention goes, energy flows. So where is your attention? How much time do you spend on the news each day? The only reality that exists is here, now. But what does that really mean and how can you find the peace in your present moment? Exercise, going to the ocean, gardening, spending time with friends and family, yoga, meditation. These are all opportunities to be fully present and finding the joy in even the simplest things.

    Poem:"Keeping Quiet" by Pablo Neruda:
    Keeping Quiet
Now we will count to twelve and we will all keep still.
For once on the face of the earth let’s not speak in any language,
let’s stop for one second, and not move our arms so much.

It would be an exotic moment without rush, without engines,
we would all be together in a sudden strangeness.
Fishermen in the cold sea would not harm whales

and the man gathering salt would look at his hurt hands.
Those who prepare green wars, wars with gas, wars with fire,
victory with no survivors, would put on clean clothes

and walk about with their brothers n the shade, doing nothing
What I want should not be confused with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about; I want no truck with death.

If we were not so single-minded about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing, perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness of never understanding ourselves

and of threatening ourselves with death. Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead and later proves to be alive.
Now I’ll count up to twelve and you keep quiet and I will go.

This poem reflects on the power of silence and stillness, encouraging introspection and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

  • We tend to feel invisible and even irrelevant as we age. But there are many ways we can find relevance from within. We can help ourselves stay relevant by learning new things and being open to change and growth. And then sometimes you need to lean into the fact that youngsters may not want your input and respect that and not take it personal. We dive into the importance of sharing our fears with others and how empowering and healing that can be. Eddi says that she has stretched out of her comfort zone by sharing her life on this podcast on a personal level and she is actually enjoying it.

Many people feel invisible and irrelevant as they age.Finding relevance from within is essential for personal growth.Embrace learning new things to stay engaged and relevant.Be open to change and growth in every stage of life.Recognize that younger generations may not always seek your input; respect their boundaries.

  • The importance of healing family wounds, embracing our elders and really learning more about our history in order to move forward in our own lives. Our history is not our destiny, but it does inform us and can guide us. Healing and compassion can happen by trying to understand where our family came from and what their life circumstances were.

Eddi and Corrine share the differences in their own family tapestries. Having compassion for our parents can be healing to our family wounds. Where does our love for certain things come from? When we look at our past, we can unravel ourselves more clearly. Even our family rituals have information for us.

  • As a yoga and meditation teacher, the breath has been very important for Corrine. For Eddi breath has been instrumental in a different way as she has had sinus issues for much of her life. Let’s talk about the breath!

Using a timer to take a mindful breath. This calms you and helps you to be more present.

Try the 4-7-8 breath to help anxiety, Alternate nostril breathing to help calm the mind. Ujjayi breathing to strengthen the lungs. Plus the science behind the exhale and when it is longer then the inhale, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Learn to connect with the sacredness of the breath. When you talk fast and you are worked up, your breath is quick so when you slow your breath, it affects your mind too.

Eddi shares the physiological importance of oxygen. Your mitochondria which is the spark plug in your body, your energy, you need oxygen. The brain and the heart thrive on oxygen. They all need it for transportation at the cellular level.
