  • With the announcement that Maurizio Zamparini has sold Palermo to a consortium involving David Platt, the panel of Jimbo, James Horncastle and Gab Marcotti look back at Zamparini’s time in Sicily.

We bring you the whole story. From Vasquez to Viagra. It’s the story that includes over a thousand sexual conquests and Jimbo’s favourite goal in Serie A history. The story of the man who found a kindred spirit in Kyle Lafferty.

In an extremely competitive field, Zamparini is a record-breaker when it comes to owners dismissing managers in Italy. 45 sackings in 16 years will do that.

And it was a golden age on the field, starring the likes of Cavani, Pastore, Dybala, Grosso, Toni. The list went on, as Palermo were regulars on the European scene.

In Serie A, we look ahead to what could be a Friday night thriller between Juventus and Inter. And while Gennaro Gattuso continues to defy expectations as a manager, Pippo Inzaghi fails to meet them.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: Zamparini sells Palermo to David Platt (01m 00s)

    • PART 2: Zamparini sells Venezia to buy Palermo in 2002 (05m 30s)

    • PART 3a: Palermo promoted to Serie A in 2004 – the great players they had and the vast quantity of managers (10m 30s)

    • PART 3b: Zamparini moves into politics – the pitchfork movement (17m 30s)

    • PART 3c: The second great Palermo side of 2010-11 (20m 00s)

    • PART 3d: Zamparini’s active sex life (25m 45s)

  • Before there was Sarri - and after there was Sacchi – there was Alberto Malesani.

He gave up his job at Canon in Amsterdam to pursue a career in football management. He was the figurehead of one of the great Parma sides, masterminding the second most famous treble in European football in 1999.

But for many, Malesani is more famous for his foul-mouthed press conferences and blames social media for his lack of involvement in the game today. We celebrate the man behind the meme in this Cazzo Golazzo.

In Serie A, the race for the top 4 is hotting up and includes Atalanta and Torino. But sadly there’s another racism row involving Lazio fans.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1a: Malesani’s tactical ethos (01m 00s)

    • PART 1b: Malesani at Canon (06m 00s)

    • PART 2a: Malesani at Chievo & Fiorentina (08m 30s)

    • PART 3a: Malesani at Parma and the success of 1999 (16m 00s)

    • PART 3b: Things start to go wrong for Malesani & the Panathinaikos rant (21m 00s)

    • PART 3c: Malesani’s mollo rant and his damaged reputation (29m 00s)

  • Jimbo, James Horncastle and Gab Marcotti this week salute Luca Toni. Not a lifeguard as some would have you believe but perhaps the last great Italian centre-forward.

The big man was laying down outrageous goal scoring numbers before Ronaldo and Messi showed up. He was Serie A’s top scorer at the age of 29 and again at 38.

Toni won the World Cup, the Golden Shoe and he scored a bundle for Bayern Munich, while also upsetting Louis Van Gaal and the Catholic Church.

In short, he was so much more than the Italian Peter Crouch.

Back in the present, the panel evaluate Italy’s striker search in finding the next Luca Toni. And speaking of strikers, will Milan’s injury crisis force them to call upon the Zlatan?

Plus there’s what should be an emotional Genoa derby on the horizon this weekend.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1: An introduction to Luca Toni – underappreciated? (01m 00s)

    • PART 2a: Toni’s beginnings at Brescia (04m 30s)

    • PART 2b: Toni goes to the 2006 World Cup (07m 10s)

    • PART 2c: Toni’s time at Bayern – breaking records and falling out with Van Gaal and the Catholic Church (10m 30s)

    • PART 3a: Toni returns to Italy and breaks more records (15m 00s)

    • PART 3b: Luca’s legacy (23m 30s)

  • This week on Golazzo, Jimbo, James Horncastle and Gab Marcotti examine one of the most notorious owners in Serie A history – Cecchi Gori.

An Oscar-winning producer turned eccentric football club supremo, life under Gori for La Viola was a rollercoaster from 1993 to 2002.

Batistuta, Laudrup, Effenberg, Rui Costa – all players that Fiorentina fans could enjoy. They also got relegated and went out of business.

Plenty going on in Serie A. We discuss the European draws for Juve and Napoli. And is Gianluca Vialli about to return to Sampdoria?

  • As Lazio prepare to host Inter at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday, Jimbo, James Horncastle and Gab Marcotti look back at a date that is burned into the brains of Inter fans around the world.

With a first Serie A title in 13 years on the horizon, Inter entered the day top of the table and finished it 3rd. It was a day when Lazio fans were supporting Inter, hoping that Juventus wouldn’t be champions and desperate for rivals Roma not to retain their crown.

But Ronaldo’s last game for the Nerazzurri ended in tears as Hector Cuper’s Inter conspired to grab defeat from the jaws of victory.

Elsewhere, the panel look back at an impressive victory for the Old Lady at Old Trafford and how Jose Mourinho is being received in his former stomping ground of Italy right now.

Plus James Horncastle has been to the Milan derby where Inter leave it late again. And former Italy manager Gian Piero Ventura rocks up at Chievo. Is it a match made in hell?

  • This week on Golazzo, Jimbo, James Horncastle and Gab Marcotti look back on the life and times of Enrico Preziosi, one of Serie A’s most notorious owners.

Preziosi was at the heart of Genoa’s biggest scandal in 2005 and is now trying to rewrite Genoa’s second biggest scandal some 80 years earlier.

It’s a story involving match fixing and shootouts. And we don’t mean penalties.

And there’s the matter of a manager passing away on live television.

  • Jimbo and James Horncastle take another trip down memory lane on this week’s Golazzo.

With Chievo deducted 3 points for falsifying acccounts, we look back at the time when they were everyone’s second favourite team in Italy.

A newly promoted Chievo team, managed by a former photocopier salesman, took Serie A by storm in 2001/02, setting the early pace in the title race before narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification. This is the incredible tale of flying donkeys, stolen identity and Christmas cake. And great chips. Where did it all go wrong?

Gab Marcotti also analyses the move of chief executive Ivan Gazidis from Arsenal to AC Milan and what he’ll be able to achieve at San Siro.

Plus we discuss an incredible comeback in the Champions League from the usually Spursy Inter against….er, Spurs.

    RUNNING ORDER:

    • PART 1a: Chievo in 2001/02 (01m 00s)

    • PART 1b: Chievo’s rivalry with Hellas and the city of Verona (09m 45s)
