Have you ever felt that you've had a busy day but not so productive? Or maybe you haven't stopped to take a breath all day but still struggle to put your head on the pillow at night satisfied that you got what you needed done? It happens to us all at some stage. I was getting ready to start my day this morning when I got an email with a request for help (NOT URGENT) and I was about to go off down the rabbit hole to find answers and ways to solve and respond to it immediately. This one tiny task was going to hijack and disrupt my morning planning and planned focus work session.
So, thankfully I caught myself on early enough and went back to my focused planned work. These are the wee Things That can Take You Off Track and disrupt your day, hijack your time and get you sidetracked completely.
This story is an example of those “little tasks” that we sometimes pick up that can end up taking more time than estimated and completely hijack our morning and it’s these little tasks that will quickly eat up your entire day if you let them.
What you think is going to be a quick side task leads to a rabbit-hole of wasted time. Without discipline, a few of these small diversions can take over hours of your day.
That one email you are going to read… only to find yourself 200 messages deep in your inbox.
The one website you are going check… which leads to an hour of web surfing.
That one thing you are going to do… that takes you away from your work for the rest of the morning.
“Little tasks aren’t always so little… and small distractions can disrupt your entire day.”
So, how do you prevent these small distractions from taking up all your time?
Here are 5 Tips to Prevent these Little Tasks from Hijacking and Disrupting Your Entire Day..

How do you develop emotional intelligence? How do we gain control over our negative emotions especially those emotions that don’t serve us? Recognising your emotions and learning to manage them is one of the most important skills you can have – especially and even more so during these challenging times.Feelings are powerful and can become overwhelming at times. Both adults and children might struggle to manage their responses to their feelings and act in ways that feel very out of their control. For example, have you ever felt so angry that you said things you didn’t mean to someone? Then once you calmed down, you realised that your emotions got the better of you and you wish you handled it differently? Or someone in work sent an email that triggered you to send a very short and nasty response that later you regretted?
We have all behaved this way and it is important that we learn how to control these emotions so that we can deal with situations better and learn life skills to navigate our way through tough situations and handle them in a more calm, purposeful way. Being able to alter your thoughts and reactions will build your confidence in your own ability to cope. So let’s talk about five ideas to develop emotional mastery in your life so that you can have more of a continuing feeling and sense of self and strength.
Because generally here’s how people deal with negative emotions:
1: AVOID
Avoiding all situations that could potentially lead to a negative emotion. For example, people avoid
taking risks or approaching that stranger because theyare trying to avoid the feeling of rejection or failure.
It’s also working not to feel negative emotions.
For example, self-medicating yourself with drugs, alcohol, or food. Or, spending time watching TV or go on Facebook or use other forms of media as a way toself-hypnotize themselves and escape.
2: DENIAL
This is disassociating to the negative emotion by saying things like, “It’s not that bad.” The only problem with this approach is that by ignoring the message, the emotion increases – it intensifies until you finally pay attention.
3: COMPETITION
This is when the negative emotion becomes a part of your identity and a way for you to be unique. It’s something that you’re constantly telling others about, saying things like “You think you’ve got it bad? Wait until you hear my story…”
Finally the 4) LEARN and UNDERSTAND
Learn how to master your emotions is to understand that all emotions serve you. Your negative emotions are a call to action, also known as “Action Signals”. Change the meaning of negative emotions to “Action Signals”, then all of a sudden your emotions become your mentor, ally, and coach – they guide you. The
emotions you are feeling right now are a gift, a guideline, a support system, or a call to action.
Your Action Signals are telling you that what you’re currently doing is not working. YOU are the source of all your emotions, you are the one who creates them.
We’ve all had situations where our emotions got the best of us. Oftenit’s because we didn’t realize what was happening until we were too far down the “emotional hijack train” to change it. The best time to handle an emotion is when you first begin to feel and experience it fully. That way it won’t keep popping up time and time again. By following these 5 straightforward tips, you’ll learn how to master your emotions and take control of your life.

Working from home or managing isolation of a new office setup, these 5 tips will help you get more done than you have before.
In this episode we are talking about working from home, effectively productively and joyously. I know some of you have been working from home for the first time, some are more experienced at working from home, others are now back and forth in a hybrid type office, home situation. Some of you love it, some of you hate it, some of you struggle with it others are thriving with it. No matter where you are on the scale of love-hate working from home, a lot of these tips will resonate with you – most of which are common sense, but not common practice. There is no “one size fits all or some secret recipe” to get it right. Every family, every person’s situation is very different. So some of these tips will apply and some won't. Just pick which ones most resonate with you.
We have been locked down now in Costa Rica since March and have been homeschooling my 3 kids while trying to run our businesses online and we just found out that there will not be a return to classes for the rest of 2020!! So while we still aren’t perfect at this WFH thing I have to say for the past 6 months almost I think we have significantly got better as family with everyone working around each other. So I want to share with you some of my takeaways. But I want to set the context – the bottom line is no matter where you are working, what your situation or context is, it’s not just because of your environment that makes you less or more productive, it’s a mindset and discipline. Whether you are working from home on the kitchen table or at the office, many of these rules still apply to help you be more effective and productive working from home.

There's a lot of uncertainty in the air right now. Today’s pace of change is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Psychologists refer to this as a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world. Some of you may be thinking... Will I have a job in six months? Will this pandemic go away? Will we have enough money? When will I have peace of mind again? What if my new boss and I don't get along? Will my kids be ok?
