But Ashley Metcalfe as CEO of Paddle UK is in charge of so much more than just success - how does it prioritise clean water or paddle boarding or canoe slalom or kayak cross or canoe sprint?
We find out in this latest episode of Great British Bosses from Anything but Footy.

A spectacular summer in the pool in Paris for Aquatics GB - across swimming, diving, para swimming and artistic swimming - with medals galore and the first ever Olympic medal in the artistic discipline (formerly known as synchro swimming!)
But what comes next as it’s a long time to the next Games in Los Angeles in 2028? What does the national governing body responsible for the elite and high performances of British athletes have in store in the meantime, and how does it tell the stories of its world class talent?
It’s something that new CEO Drew Barrand is very conscientious of in this episode of Great British Bosses from Anything but Footy - the behind the scenes conversation with the people who run sport in the UK.

In her own words on the 'Women in Rugby League' website, Julia Lee says "she's an ordinary person". When you hear this episode of Great British Bosses from Anything but Footy, the work she's done over the years, and continues to do, you'll agree she's extraordinary.
Like a lot of team sports, the role of women and the history of the growth of the game has been hidden and undervalued, something Julia doesn't accept and is determined to put right, and one example is the ‘Life with the Lioness’s’ project which shines a light on untold stories and experiences of those women who represented Great Britain between 1996 and 2003.

As the Olympic and Paralympic summer comes to an end, many of us will be thinking what next? The UK is already preparing to host the Women’s Rugby World Cup next year, the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham in 2026 and hopefully the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow!
But like Paris 2024, none of these will take place without a huge number of volunteers, or ambassadors, of the event.
Liz Stainthorpe is an event volunteer and manager & booking agent of The Games Maker Choir and in this special episode of Great British Bosses, we hear about the important role volunteers play in sport presentation, how if managed correctly, they could add further value to events, how to get involved and sign up the Choir for Sport for future Games!

The first ever Paris Paralympics are coming to a close, and although it may not have had quite the glitz of the French Olympics earlier this summer, the Games will no doubt go down as the best yet, with organisers creating more magical memories in key locations across the French capital, and selling more than 2 million tickets.
Paralympics GB has seen success in the water, on the water, on the track and out on the road. New names have come to the fore and Aquatics GB's para swimming team - particularly the women - has been the standout sport so far.
But what next? What's the next 4 years look like ahead of LA? And beyond for the moment. Michael reveals his thoughts on staging the Paralympics every two years, in smaller cities right across the world who are unable to deliver bigger Games, and in fact remove all ties with the Olympics. Could this be what's needed for Para sport?
We discuss and want to hear from you too!
