Dear Pastor Martinez,
I was thrilled that the Lord led me, quite randomly, to your YouTube BibleLine Ministries channel earlier this evening, where I listened to several videos including the December 29th Sunday evening service with the question & answer. I have been perplexed, frustrated, and
praying for satisfactory answers to several things in recent months, and I believe the Holy Spirit wanted me to hear you and write to you because I believe you touched briefly, on Sunday, on the very thing I’m wanting someone to help me with. I don’t honestly know all the ins and outs of your soteriology, but based on what I heard, I think you’re a good person to ask. You talked about what are sometimes called apparent contradictions in scripture (regarding salvation) and how many pastors just call that the sovereignty of God. You said you couldn’t recall what they call it - maybe you were thinking of the term “antinomy?” That’s the term I had been given when I asked questions about that. Anyway, that’s precisely what has so frustrated me when it comes to soteriology. A pastor will say that both free will and election (election as found in Eph. 1:4-11, which they understand/define as unconditional election of individuals unto salvation from before the foundation of the world) are equally true at the same time, which defies all logic and makes no sense. But they just say, ‘Well the Bible says it, so I believe it.’ That just does not sit well with me. I really don’t believe it’s God’s character to be completely contradictory about something
as important as how eternal salvation works. If there appears to be a contradiction, I think it’s a problem with interpretation of one or more passages, not an ‘antinomy’ where we should just throw our hands up and declare that God’s ways are just so sovereign and mysterious that we can’t make sense of it or understand it. So that being said, what do you believe and teach about election in Ephesians 1:4-11? Do you believe in the Calvinist idea of unconditional election? I have run into so many teachers and pastors who on the one hand will call out the errors of Calvinism, but then in the next breath they bring a Calvinist understanding of election to the text (namely unconditional election of individuals unto salvation from before the foundation of the world) and rely upon antinomy/mystery/sovereignty to gel that with the clear teachings on free will and free grace elsewhere. Even the well known ___ and ___. And many
others... but those two overtly say they aren’t Calvinist, yet unconditional election is sort of the lynch pin of Calvinism, is it not? Does it seem strange to you that people deny Calvinism yet affirm unconditional election,
or am I missing something? A related follow up question - What exactly
do you believe and teach about soteriology? Would you say that your soteriology is more or less in line with Provisionism? A second (third* haha) question if I may: A young person (14 yrs in this case) expressed faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life (positional righteousness and salvation) and also got baptized, but later rejected even a belief in the one true God and not longer professes Christ (now in his 50s)
Is it possible that this person has just badly back-slidden for decades? Can a person cease to profess faith at all and still be truly saved? Or, does this more likely indicate that they didn’t truly believe in the first place?

would like to say that my wife and I are grace
alone, faith alone in Christ alone believers!
We have a question concerning 1 Corinthians
5:11 where brother Paul talks about keeping
company and not eating with a saved
individual in the church. We currently do not have a faith believing
church to attend in our area. We have searched
for several years and when we found you,
Yankee and Cucuzza we were thrilled to be
able to have true biblical teachings without
works for salvation. Our question is, does this matter in
Corinthians only apply to a church building
(because we are the church as the body of
Christ). We have multiple family members
(born again believers who understand the
gospel of grace). They are living lifestyles of
the attributes listed in the book of Corinthians.

Our listener asks, “Hey Pastor Jesse! Just bought some of your
gospel tracts and look forward to handing
those out, best presentation of the Gospel
I’ve heard. I had a question around Matthew
7:21-23. I know that the will of the Father is
to believe on the Son, and that these
passages point out that those who trust in
their works for salvation are told to depart
from Christ. We also know about bearing fruit, and that
God has ordained good works that we should
walk in them (Eph. 2:10). I’ve trusted in Christ
alone for Salvation for about a year now, and
I’ve notice as I’ve grown as a Christian that I’ve
changed. I act different, I preach the Gospel,
and my friends and family have also
mentioned that I’ve changed for the better. But whenever I do a good work out of a desire
to be obedient, I get paranoid that I am in fact
doing that work to ‘prove to myself’ that I’m
a ‘true’ believer, and I fear that I run the risk of
looking at the good things that I do out of a
desire to please Christ as evidence that I’m
really saved as opposed to solely looking at the
cross for evidence that I’m really saved. How do I continue to do good works without
this paranoid feeling that I’m just doing these
good works to prove that I’m saved, and not
solely out of love for Christ? Either my own paranoia or Satan keeps telling
me ‘you haven’t REALLY believed, you’re just
doing this good work to prove you’re saved,
you’re just like the people in Matthew 7:21-23.’ I know that my works are as filthy rags to God
and that it is my faith alone in Christ alone that
justifies me and pleases God, but I still struggle
with this paranoid feeling that I’m still looking
at some of my works for reassurance. How can
I appreciate and acknowledge the growth and
change the Holy Spirit has caused in my life
without somehow looking to those things as
evidence that I’m saved? How can I be SURE that I’m not trusting in any
of my works and solely trusting in the finished
work of Christ? Thanks and God Bless!”

Our listener asks, “My husband and I are currently attending
an Independent Baptist Church. We are both
saved by grace believers. I am struggling
with some of the things our pastor says.
He has said because Jesus had John baptize
him that it shows Jesus is Baptist. Another issue is the use of the Hebrews 10:25
about “not forsaking the assembly.” We do
not go to church regularly on Sunday. This
little church has 3 services on Sunday. 2 in
the morning and 1 at 4:00 PM. We don’t go to all of them. He will say things
like ‘It’s too much to make it to all the
services for some,’ and last week said one of
the older gentlemen that is always there
was sick and so was one of the families that
is always there was sick. They go to all the services. He said they
would be here if they weren’t sick. They are
faithful to the church attendance. Am I
wrong to say, but this seems like bullying. I
have been in a church where this happens. I also struggle with how there seems to be
no affection toward his wife. I have never
seen any type of loving affection in the years
we have attended. Should we be concerned?"

Our Listener asks “Can your personality be a sin? I’m an
introvert who cherishes solitude, and don’t
want to be around people much. Is that
pride? I would see a homeless man on my
walks, and try to pass on the other side of
the street instead of meeting him on the
same side to share the gospel or ask him if
he’s hungry. I feel like the priest or the Levite who passed
on the other side of the road to avoid being
involved with the man in the story of the
parable of the Good Samaritan. I am supposed to be the hands and feet of
Jesus everywhere I go, but it seems that my
personality is not in line with the Christian
love I am supposed to be showing people.
Then I live with this guilt all the time. P.S. - I am an avid listener of your BibleLine
Ministry. I love the True Gospel and Free
Grace Theology that you present. That is the

Our Listener asks, “My question for today is that I am a
follower/believer of Jesus. I have been for
the past 14 years, however the past few
months I have been dealing with bad
thoughts, intrusive thoughts, and I have
been feeling down casted a lot lately. And I
can’t help but to feel the Lord isn’t with me
or that I committed some blasphemy
because of the nature of the thoughts, “and now I’m cut off. I know it sounds crazy,
and it sounds off to me as well, but I can’t
help but feel this seed of dread I have been
feeling for months now. And I would love for
you to maybe bring some clarity to me in all
this because it is tormenting.”
