On June 4, 2022, 19-year-old Rachel Hansen called 911 from her apartment in Gilbert, Arizona, and told the dispatcher that someone had broken in and shot her while she was sleeping. Just minutes later, first responders found Rachel critically injured on the floor of her bathroom. She was rushed to the hospital, but despite hours of emergency surgery, she did not survive.

To everyone who knew Rachel, the shooting made no sense. She was a successful young entrepreneur and a beloved daughter, sister, and fiancée who had her entire future ahead of her. She had no known enemies, no involvement in criminal activity, and no obvious reason anyone would want to hurt her...

  • On November 16, 2012, 37-year-old Cari Farver was reported missing by her mother, Nancy, after she suddenly stopped showing up for work and answering calls. No one had seen Cari since the morning of November 13, but her phone was active, sending messages and posting online, making it seem like she hadn’t disappeared at all. Still, Nancy was adamant something was wrong. The messages didn’t sound like Cari.

As detectives began looking into Cari’s disappearance, they started receiving reports that she was stalking and threatening multiple people. For more than two years, the behavior continued, growing more intense and dangerous than anyone could have imagined. And by the time detectives finally uncovered what was really going on, they were left trying to untangle a case so complicated, and so bizarre, that prosecutors worried a jury wouldn’t believe it was true.

  • On July 9, 1993, Stephanie Wasilishin, a mother of two, was shot in Sedona, Arizona, with her boyfriend present as the only other adult in the home. Prosecutors ultimately declined to file charges, citing insufficient evidence and conflicting accounts from the suspect. Ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, the case has remained unresolved for over three decades, with Stephanie's daughter Nikki continuing to fight for answers into her mother's death.

For this week's Crime Weekly News, we sat down with Nikki herself at this year's CrimeCon to talk about her mother's case.

  • Brandy Lynn Hall was a 32-year-old firefighter and mother of two from Brevard County, Florida, who vanished on the evening of August 17th, 2006, after leaving her volunteer fire station in Malabar. The next day, her prized green pickup truck was found deliberately submerged in a nearby pond with a significant amount of her blood inside but no trace of Brandy herself. As time went on, scattered personal items surfaced miles away, but no body, no clear timeline, and no definitive suspect ever emerged. Despite connections to her husband’s recent drug case, a long-term affair with a fellow firefighter, and a series of investigative missteps, Brandy’s disappearance remains one of Florida’s most mystifying unsolved cases.
