Right before Mother Nature put on a show of her own in the form of numerous thunderstorms ripping through the Seattle-Tacoma area, the Washington Huskies put on their show in Husky Stadium in front of roughly 2000 fans. It was billed as a 'mock game' but it was really more of a thud-tempo scrimmage of about 80 plays, if you include special teams.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Harlan Grady - made it safely to the media room underneath Husky Stadium, and while thunder and lightning bombarded the area they gave their thoughts on the mock game itself, what stood out, what Washington Head Coach Jedd Fisch had to say about the night, and what Washington fans can look forward to now that the media will not be going to practices or any interview sessions until Monday, August 26 - the Monday before the Weber State opener.
Chris put together some very crude individual stats to show just how well the offense had done (hint: Will Rogers had a VERY nice night), but there was some needed context to those numbers, which was provided. The special teams also got a bit of chat, especially the kicking of Grady Gross and the potential battle at punter between Jack McCallister and Adam Saul.

For the first time in fall camp, Washington's offense stepped up and won the day. The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters -- were there and they went through some of the big plays and discussed some of the performers who stood out.
A few of the players they mentioned were defensive back Thaddeus Dixon, wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter, RB Jonah Coleman and EDGE Isaiah Ward.
They also talked about some of the big plays including an acrobatic touchdown grab by Hunter and a back shoulder touchdown grab by tight end Quentin Moore on a pass thrown by quarterback Will Rogers. Defensively, they highlighted yet another big hit from Justin Harrington and interceptions by Darren Barkins and Dyson McCutcheon.
Lastly, they discussed Saturday's Mock Game that will be held at 6:30 pm and what complications the Washington DOT has added to the mix for those who are planning to attend the game.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters - weren't expecting much out of day 12 of UW fall camp, a shells-and-shorts practice that had the feel of pulling back a bit, getting things right, focusing on techniques and fundamentals, and also plenty of special teams attention.
But boy were they wrong. They got all of the above, but so much more. In the first part of this practice recap, the guys talk about the plays of the day, the work put in by the secondary specifically, and how Steve Belichick is using his defensive backs to cause chaos when he wants to.
After a quick break, the guys turn to the main talking point of the day, the offensive line switcheroos. They talked about a number of offensive players that impressed today, but then did a deep dive into all the positional changes they saw from the offensive line, especially near the end of practice.
Left tackles were suddenly playing right tackle, and vise versa. Same goes for the guards, and some of the centers were playing all three interior line positions. It was difficult to keep up with all the switching going on, but Scott and Chris did their best to try and lay it all out for you.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund, Chris Fetters, and intern Harlan Grady - put their thoughts together after a very competitive day 11 of UW fall camp, one that saw the Huskies not scrimmage for the first 90 minutes of practice, but then went with team periods for basically the rest of the day.
What did the guys see? Starting with the offense, guys like Jeremiah Hunter, Denzel Boston, and Giles Jackson certainly had strong days, but there was also some sloppiness from the UW pass-catchers, as well as penalties and lack of execution. And they were going up against cornerbacks that were also wearing boxing gloves. What was up with that?
And who are the top three receivers right now to back up Hunter, Boston, and Jackson, according to WR Coach Kevin Cummings? Here's a hint; Chris got one of the picks wrong.
Talk moved to the offensive line, and the news that center Landen Hatchett got some actual live scrimmaging done for the first time all camp. That led the guys to talk about who they believe will start along the OL against Weber State, but more importantly - who do they think Brennan Carroll will call on for his top three linemen to back up the starters?
After a quick break, the talk turns to the defense, and a lot of the chat was about the defensive backs, and especially the safeties. With Cameron Broussard starting to miss some practice time and Justin Harrington imposing himself as the enforcer of the group, who starts? And with Tristan Dunn getting a lot of reps in today, where does he fit into the rotation? And could Jordan Shaw also see time at safety as well as the slot corner?

Next Saturday, August 17th, the Huskies are expected to host a mock game following the annual "Raise The Woof" event, but that didn't stop the coaches from scheduling a scrimmage the week before that mirrored a game with the way they set things up. The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters -- were there and they shared their thoughts on what they saw in their post-practice podcast.
They began by giving an overview of what they saw, including how many plays (150) that were run in the two-and-a-half hour practice.
They discussed the progress of the offense, especially the offensive line, and what it meant to have Landen Hatchett back running with the first team for the first time in 2024.
They also talked about the the tailbacks and the work that Jonah Coleman and Cameron Davis got in, but also gave props to Adam Mohammed and Daniyel Ngata who both took a bulk of the carries when the team went with their "live" tackling.
Another area of focus was the secondary and the depth that Washington is experiencing thus far in camp.
They talked about the competition at the EDGE spot and mentioned that head coach Jedd Fisch gave a lot of kudos to Jayden Wayne and how he's progressed the past couple of weeks as the team is getting deeper into fall camp. They also said that Zach Durfee made an impact and how the first year head coach said that he was a difference-maker up front for the Huskies.
They also broke down what they saw from each of the other position groups and who stood out during the practice.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Harlan Grady - report from the visitors locker room in Husky Stadium after day 8 of Washington's fall camp.
After seeing a lot of fall camps over the years, and under more than a half-dozen staffs, the one constant is that the defense always holds early sway in camp and it takes roughly two weeks for the offense to get to the point where they're giving back as good as they get.
They've certainly shown explosive glimpses but the defense has been far and away the more consistent side of the football so far. And now that the second week of camp is upon us we're on high alert.
Starting with the offense, we talked about the guys that came back to practice, as well as the guys who were limited or unavailable, which gave opportunities to those behind them. A good example is Audric Harris. With some players not able to go full steam, like Rashid Williams, it's allowed the true frosh receiver to make a move, and he has.
The same could also be said for offensive lineman Kahlee Tafai. With Elishah Jackett and Zachary Henning unavailable today, Tafai took a lot more reps at right tackle, the same as what he did Thursday.
Before moving to the defensive side of the ball, the guys also talked about Demond Williams and how much progress he's made so far through 8 fall practices.
After a quick break, the talk turns to the defense and some of the players that stood out during Friday's workout, including Sacramento State EDGE transfer Deshawn Lynch, Zach Durfee getting some team work done while Lance Holtzclaw was limited, Thaddeus Dixon showing his physical side out on an island, and more.

The guys from Dawgman.com -- Chris Fetters and Kim Grinolds -- were on hand for the seventh day of Washington's fall camp and they sat down to discuss what they saw.
The the second-straight practice, Washington's coaching staff ramped things up a little bit by having more full-team scrimmage sessions.
What side won the day? Fetters and Grinolds both went in depth with what they saw, talking about the position groups rotating quite a bit although the quarterback position has been pretty settled territory with veteran Will Rogers ahead of Demond Williams.
The Mississippi State transfer hit receivers on five or six touchdowns during practice, but he did suffer one interception, this one brought in by Jordan Shaw.
The guys also talked about a couple of players who have stepped in and gotten more reps recently including Audric Harris and Keith Reynolds, both of whom saw a lot of reps, and Arizona transfer Kevin Green Jr.
Tailback Jonah Coleman, another former Wildcat, had an impressive run which left a handful of defenders in hiw wake.
On the day, the guys agreed that the defense still was ahead of the offense, but that it was good to see the offense make more plays.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters - were at Husky Stadium to offer their thoughts on a very productive day six of fall camp, one that saw the Washington Huskies in full pads for the first time all camp, and they put those pads to use with some tackling during a few of their team periods.
To start the show, Scott and Chris break down the top offensive and defensive plays they saw, including the highlight of the day - a pick-six where slot corner Jordan Shaw picked off Demond Williams and took it to the house with the whole defense acting as his convoy.
After a quick break, Scott asks Chris for a freshman on either side of the ball that has impressed him so far this fall, and then Scott offers up his choices. And before giving their final thoughts, the guys gave three names of players on offense and defense that have been their outstanding players of camp so far. And with so many players looking the part and putting in some great work, it wasn't easy to just pick three a side.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Harlan Grady - were at Husky Stadium bright and early Monday morning for Washington's fifth practice of the fall.
And much like the last couple of padded practices, this one occurred on the east field next to the stadium. There, the players ramped up their play via 11-11 team periods, and the defense was typically backed up into the red zone or the shadow of their end zone.
For the most part, the defense responded well. But there were also some new standout performers during these periods, like running back Sam Adams and receiver Audric Harris.
The guys also talked about the movement of the offensive line, how well they are progressing under Brennan Carroll, and what still lay ahead for them.
After a quick break, the guys move to the defense, and the front is where Kim is most concerned. Who is going to step up to stop the run? And Chris asks; which players will emerge from a congested EDGE room to make an impact? They talk about a couple of defensive linemen that emerged on Monday and also mention the reasons why they feel Logan Sagapolu is rightly suited now for the defensive line, as opposed to the offensive line, which is where he played at Oregon and Miami.

While the rest of humanity was resting on the seventh day of the week, the Washington Huskies were out grinding on the east field under perfect Seattle conditions.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were all there watching the action from the east field next to Husky Stadium, and they gave their thoughts on what they saw on day four of fall camp.
The good news was that players like Landen Hatchett and Tristan Dunn were back in action, albeit just a little bit. Hatchett got some positional work in while Dunn mostly got in some conditioning.
The guys start the podcast talking about the offensive side of the ball, including the work done by the running backs and especially the offensive line to help solidify things after that room was half of what it is now.
After a quick break, talk turns to the defensive side of the ball. The defense had another strong day, as you'd expect given how these things usually go early in fall camp. And there were some standout performers, led by cornerback Ephesians Prysock.
There were also a couple of positive notes regarding the work put in by the special teams units too.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund, Chris Fetters, and Harlan Grady - broke down what they saw on Friday when the UW coaches and players practiced almost completely on the east field next to Husky Stadium.
Three members of the Big Ten Network - Ashley Adamson, Yogi Roth, and former Indiana (and LSU) Head Coach Gerry DiNardo were on hand to watch practice and also talk to selected coaches and players afterward.
The practice included their first scrimmaging of fall, but don't expect to hear a lot about scrimmaging moving forward. With their NFL background and Fisch's aim of being the NFL's '33rd team', the program is fashioning itself as a professional outfit. There are obvious connections with NFL head coaches like Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll (who was at today's practice).
And following the NFL model also means almost all the hitting happens on the field during games, not in practices. So we don't expect to see a ton of scrimmaging during fall camp but enjoyed what we saw today under lovely Seattle August weather.
We started by going position group by position group, noting standout performances and things that stood out to us that we maybe didn't see the first couple of days.
After a quick break, we did the same thing, but this time on the defensive side of the ball.

The guys from Dawgmnan.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Harlan Grady - sat down after day two of UW fall camp to offer their observations on what they saw, and as it was on day one it was more about who they saw and who physically stood out.
It was another shells and shorts practice with no scrimmaging, so that meant plenty of positional work, as well as fundamental drills, tackling and turnover stations, and special teams.
But as UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch said after practice, it was much better than day one, so keep up the hard work and that intensity, because things will keep ratcheting up as camp progresses.
So who physically stood out? Fisch also talked about the need to keep getting bigger during camp, so the guys talked a lot about the offensive line and how they looked, as well as some of the newcomers on the defensive line, like Logan Sagapolu and true frosh Omar Khan, as well as Deshawn Lynch and former Tacoma Lincoln and IMG standout Jayden Wayne, who recently transferred from Miami (Fla.).
They also marveled at the physicality of true frosh RB Adam Mohammed, the long levers of DB Elias Johnson, and just how big frosh OL Justin Hylkema and Davit Boyajyan are.
There was also an emphasis on special teams so the guys talked about that a bit too, including an early note from camp that Caleb Johnston is getting the one reps at long snapper, while former Colorado LS Cameron Warchuck is taking the two snaps. That will likely change a few times during camp as the coaches try and get them as many first-team reps as possible.
