Benny Salvador is at the forefront of a new dance movement in Aotearoa. The Te Whanganui-a-Tara based artist has a reputation for refined and exploratory dancefloor odysseys, driven by his innate curiosity and a childhood surrounded by music. He also an irrepressible force in the studio, with a wicked run of EPs out on his own imprint Aunty Records, features on compilations by Antal and Juke Bounce Werk, and a grab-bag of unreleased cuts and edits ready to be unleashed at every show. He takes over Friendly Potential Radio in anticipation of his appearance at Beacon Festival in Tāmaki Makaurau next weekend.

On this episode of Friendly Potential Radio, we hear from two pillars of the Aotearoa underground - Keepsakes and Ebb.
Keepsakes's hard-edged and spirited music has been released on a hit-list of labels, including South London Analogue Material, Perc Trax, Mord Records, and Mindcut Music. He also runs HAVEN INTL, a club series and vinyl-focused record label that has released work from artists including VTSS, Tommy Holohan, Peder Mannerfelt, Ayarcana, Ansome, and Ryan James Ford. Ebb's releases for 1985 Music, Cutcross, Raw Basics, Subtle Recordings, and Par Avion showcase dark, menacing atmospheres, powerful sub work, fluid, impactful drums and otherworldly sonics. The Ōtautahi based artists are going head-to-head on the Saturday of Beacon Festival in March. This weekend, they share a taster of what to expect.

Tell us about the album: The record was produced in my grandparents' place in Brussels, my hometown. It is a particularly personal record, filled with childhood emotions and a desire to escape from my permanent tinnitus through music. It goes from deep ambient, to house music through jazz funk grooves, or synthetic ballads.
Tell us about the mix: In this mix, you'll find some unreleased, new tracks, some all-time favourites. A dive in my record collection. I hope people will enjoy it.

Tatyana Jane is an emerging star in the Paris underground. Her dynamic and borderless approach to sound has been well captured via mixes for NTS and Rinse France, and releases for *** and Mamie's Records. Her latest effort is a remix for fellow French artist Marina Trench, out in a fortnight on Sweet State. We love her work, and are stoked to have her open FPR329 with a mix full of vitality, crashing drums, and warped bass.

Mānuka Recordings is a boutique record label from Tāmaki Makaurau, led by local lynchpins Dylan Biscuit and Kenny Sterling. As a collective, they focus on supporting and collaborating with musicians in their immediate community, pushing artists’ boundaries, and searching for the magic within spontaneity and imperfection. Their debut release was an amazing 7" of slow burning soul and boogie by Summer Vee, a release championed both locally and internationally. There is more in the pipeline. Tonight, the label heads share two hours of absolute jams.
