It’s a Compañeros Radio Network spectacular, as Heather, Matt and the Cookiem’n himself, David, join us to look at 1977’s Young Lady Chatterley! The All New, All Different Lady Chatterley inherits a mansion, its staff, and a diary, in which she reads all about the Original Lady Chatterley’s adventures with her gardener. So she decides to sexually harass her own staff. Honestly it’s kind of weird and uncomfortable, but also kind of weird and fun. Oh, and for some reason it’s got the third food sex scene we’ve done in three episodes. Please let us know if you’ve cursed us or can remove curses.
Alan Roberts, the director (and co-producer and cinematographer) on this one is far from a household name, unless you’re a Corey Feldman completist, or really into Lady Chatterley adaptations (or you’re really familiar with who edited 2003’s Grand Theft Parsons). Suffice to say, though, his story takes a few twists and turns and goes from ‘working on Burt Convey’s Racquet’ weird, to ‘causing international protests’ weird quicker than you’d think. A super crazy Softcore Spotlight this episode!

Episode 100?! Who knew, four years ago, a plucky little softcore show would climb its way up the charts and into people’s hearts to become the number one podcast on that subject? Granted, it’s basically the same show as back then, but oh what times we’ve had. To celebrate, Compañeros Radio Network’s own Heather and Matt join in on a film about filmmaking: 1974’s Alice Goodbody! It’s somehow enormously disturbing and wonderfully charming - oh, just like Get Soft! - and most of that charm is down to one very perfect piece of casting in the title role. Also somehow this is the second film in a row we’ve done with a really horrifying food sex scene, which is maybe a sign of some kind? Hard to say.
Anyway, the perfect casting is the always lovely Sharon Kelly, aka Colleen Brennan, and there’s no one we’d rather talk about on episode 100’s Softcore Spotlight. She did it all: hardcore, softcore, exploitation, sexploitation, called Russ Meyer a “rude, grumpy misogynist” (harsh but fair), and was rarely anything less than an absolute delight to watch.

Somehow we’re already at episode 99, and for this one we’ve gone back to Italy, for another weirdo sex comedy: Bruno Mattei’s 1990 film Three for One, aka Tre pesci, una gatta nel letto che scotta. Please keep that in mind because somehow we manage not to introduce the film by name until like 65 minutes in. It was recommended by our bud Erin, so it only seemed right to have her join us, along with Compañeros Radio Network’s own Matt and Heather. The Italian films we’ve done in the past have gone mostly if not completely off the rails at some stage in the movie, and this one is no exception. We simply had to spoil the end for this one, because it puts everything before it into context. But does it do enough to pull all the threads together? Listen and find out!
Plus, the life and career of director Bruno Mattei himself, a rip-off artist par excellence. You name it, he ripped it off, and he did it with style and heart. Less often with money, but that’s filmmaking.

Oh hey, we’re back! We took a little hiatus to move, but it started earlier and finished later than expected. But Get Soft is 100% back, with the episode we’d planned to do in February when Julie Strain’s passing was a little more recent. Still, it’s never a bad time to pay tribute to the Eternal Queen of ‘90s Softcore, and what better film to do that with than John Quinn’s 2001 feature Sex Court: The Movie! And what better guest to have join us than Compañeros Radio Networks’ very own Heather! Sex Court: The Movie is a movie, based on the TV show Sex Court. There are some pretty awful moments, and there are some great moments. We’ve missed this.
And of course, we talk about the late, great Julie Strain. There really wasn’t anyone else quite like her - a true treasure.

The world lost the great Tanya Roberts just a month ago, and...listen, she may not have actually liked being in erotic thrillers much, as far as we can tell, but she did rather a number them and she was rarely less than mesmerising. One such erotic thriller is the only directorial feature effort by John Travers: 1994’s Deep Down. Roberts plays the wife of a jealous man who is involved in at least moderately organised crime, but what happens when she falls for the young, fresh faced country boy who moves into their apartment complex? Also, the jealous husband is played by George Segal, which is honestly very distracting. George Segal!
But of course, this episode is all about celebrating Tanya’s life and career. Long time listeners may remember we have already done this in episode 32 - we did it again, because as Pauline Kael once said of Roberts: “she’s a walking, talking icon, and she’s fun to watch”. RIP Tanya! Thanks for the fun times!

And boy, isn’t this series really flying by! 2006’s The Mummy’s Kiss: 2nd Dynasty is the fourth and penultimate film in the series. The evil mummy Hor Shep Sut is revived for the second time in as many years, but this time her rampage is controlled by a professor whose desire for eternal youth has deadly...learning outcomes? Something like that. Once again, it’s divisive.
The subject of our softcore spotlight could not be less divisive, however! We talk about the life and career of the wonderful Stacy Burke. She only did a couple of softcore films, but she’s a prolific fetish model, and former Hefner girlfriend. More importantly for us: she’s a prolific YouTuber, with hundreds of lengthy videos in which she talks about her life past and present, her ambitions, her weekly shopping trips, and is just generally wonderful.

This film is one of a handful of softcore/erotic thriller efforts from the great Daryl ‘Duke’ Haney, so naturally we talk his life and career. You may know Haney as a regular actor in Corman films in the ‘80s and ‘90s, but you definitely know his writing from Friday the 13th Part VII. Suffice to say that’s not exactly his favourite work (and nor is this film, no doubt).

Turns out there’s a whole lot of erotic thrillers with the word ‘forbidden’ in the title, and somehow we’ve never done any of them. Time to correct that omission by checking out Edward Holzman’s 1995 murder mystery Forbidden Games! We’ve previously seen Ed’s work in Pamela Principle 2, and he’s really got quite the cast with him this time: future soap opera veterans Jeff Griggs and Lesli Kay, future WWE wrestler Amy Weber, the late great Beckie Mullen, and the incomparable Gail Thackray. Gail’s accent veers from southern to British and even a little Australian, as the plot veers from outrageous BDSM murders to gentle horse rides through the Californian countryside to the burden of psychometry. The rest of the plot is a little on the confusing side, even for a movie expert like our guest: Squeaky Dave from Compañeros sister show Heavy Leather Horror Show!
Plus, we talk the life and career of the film’s star, Jeff Griggs! Now a silver fox, Griggs ticks a lot of the Get Soft mainstay boxes - not just in terms of soap opera fame, but also appearances in Power Rangers, and 24! He’s more recently been in Bosch, which it turns out Drew Buzzy recommends.

It’s back to Joe Sarno’s brilliantly odd Inga series, with the second and final part in her story: The Seduction of Inga! We’re faced with the prospect of talking about it without the great and terrible Drew Buzzy, but luckily incomparable comedian and podcaster Fifi Dosch steps up to the plate. It’s a surprising movie, to say the least. There’s unexpected insert shots during the sex scenes, featuring bad wigs and unanticipated graphic positions, camera angles and acts. There’s also, out of nowhere, an incest subplot. Thanks, 1970s! Luckily there’s also cute musician boys, goofy late teenage angst, lesbian bottle smashing and some incredible Swedish pop.
And who else would be responsible for this pop music (which includes all time classic She's My Kind of Girl)? It’s Sweden in 1970 after all, so of course it’s a pre-ABBA Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, and of course they’re the focus of our spotlight this episode. Get ready for hidden pop gems, ‘80s musical weirdness with Chess, Swedish acoustic folk, and naturally, lawsuits against The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu.

This time, we’re back to vampires once again, with 2004’s Countess Dracula’s Orgy of Blood! Whoa, hope the film can live up to that title! Two vampire siblings war for the love of a mortal woman in 2004 LA, irritating the other vampires with the trail of destruction and murder they leave behind. Bonus: the movie also features original goth metal, goth rock, and goth folk music.
The most notable thing about this film is the fact that it’s one of just two American films to star late Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy! We can’t pass up the opportunity to talk about the life and career of the Man Who Saw Frankenstein Cry, as well as discussing the truthiness of some of Naschy’s various anecdotes. He loved to tell a story. Sure, some of them probably weren’t true, but he told them well nonetheless.

We have looked at films from a number of different countries, but one place we haven’t been is Sweden! So, off we trot to the land of the midnight sun, to have a look at Joe Sarno’s 1968 erotic melodrama Inga! It is really something. Almost every single character in the film is a total jerk, which is rare. But can this black and white slice of ‘60s Swedish (slash American) weirdness charm the cast? Also, we recorded this one on AFL Grand Final day, which is a thing the Australians care about, including bonus Australian Tim. Many football team songs are played. There is also a tangent into perhaps the most regional reference ever on the show, as the Australians introduce Drew to Melbourne furniture salesman Franco Cozzo’s delightful ads.
Plus, we talk the life and brief career of the legendary and titular star of Inga, Marie Liljedahl! Liljedahl was only in 10 films in 3 and a bit years, but is still one of the most fondly remembered actors of this era of Swedish film.

Richard Lynch is there, and so is the great Mia Zottoli, and the vastly underrated Sasha Peralto (who can’t act but has very adorable cheeks). Don sure did it with The Erotic Rites of Countess Dracula, but what will happen when he takes on Egypt?
Plus, the life and career of Katie Lohmann, who shows up in the movie as the goddess Isis. Lohmann appeared in Playboy as Miss April 2001, and showed up on countless magazine covers, and also had (small) roles in some pretty big movies, like A.I., and...uh, The Hot Chick?

Byron Werner’s 2000 erotic thriller Starstruck (aka Deception, aka Deadly Affair, aka Other People’s Secrets) is far from the biggest name movie we’ve done on the show, but it sure is one of the most...surprising? Astonishing? Inaudible? Different members of the cast have very different ideas on that one, including our good bud Bobby from the Grindbin podcast! It’s a movie about movie making - specifically about softcore action movie making! Of course, being an erotic thriller, it’s also about both murder and sex, and the twist at the end will leave you speechless. Maybe. It left some of the cast speechless, anyway.
Plus, we talk about the life and career of the star of the film, Amber Lee Smith, red-headed superstar model of the ‘90s and actor in some quite surprising films. Or, perhaps you know her from Celebrity Rehab? The good news is, she’s cleaned up. The bad news is she found both Jesus and conservative politics along the way.

We’ve been watching Zalman King films chronologically for the whole time we’ve been doing this podcast, and anyone who knows Zalman King knows there’s one big film that has to be talked about: the most Zalman King film of all Zalman King’s films. A movie in which King gets to once again show an upper class woman in a steamy affair with a blue collar worker, but also gets to throw in death, bucketloads of angst, and a climactic boozy basketball battle. Finally, we’re ready for 1992’s Red Shoe Diaries. Along for the very exciting ride is Cassie from Happy Hour Gets Weird podcast: she and her co-host had talked about actors appearing in softcore pre-fame, and said a few times they were curious about seeing Red Shoe Diaries, so we had a blast chatting about the experience with her.
Plus, of course, we talk about the life and career of the film’s pre-fame star, David Duchovny! And there is much to talk about. There’s the unfinished PhD in English Literature, the recent ventures into music and novels, and of course, the universally recognised role for which everyone knows him: evil venture capitalist Brad in Beethoven.

Our buddy Mike joins us for the first in another series of films: this time it’s Donald F. Glut’s vampire and mummy films! We’re starting with 2001’s The Erotic Rites of Countess Dracula, and boy what a beginning it is. It’s all about a woman turned into a vampire by William Smith in the late ‘60s, who finds in the present day (of 2001) that she wishes for mortality. Glut is a titan of not just the film world, but also books, comics, and cartoons, and a whole lot more.
We will definitely explore all of his career achievements in a future episode. This is not that episode: this is the second of three episodes we recorded three weeks in a row. Frankly, the show is a lot of work, so sometimes while you could talk about the life of William Smith, you half-ass it and talk about the life and career (mostly career) of the movie’s star, Elizabeth X, aka Brick Randall. Elizabeth X made some hardcore movies, and she made two softcore movies. This is the story of those movies, their titles, and the years in which they were released.

Back in episode 15, we looked at the 1978 comedy musical Fairy Tales, which for the most part we did not care for. Director Harry Hurwitz continued making films into the ‘90s, however, so we check out his 1994 swansong, art themed erotic conspiracy thriller Fleshtone. Martin Kemp (bassist from Spandau Ballet and star of Cyber Bandits) is a tortured artist obsessed with the intersection of romance, art, sex and death, who finds himself drawn into a terrifying and deadly conspiracy when he calls a personals ad in a sex paper. They find they’re enormously similar, in that they both like swapping nude photos (through the mail) and they’re both freakish outcasts because they’re interested in serial killers. The ‘90s sure were a different time. Now they’d just co-host a popular podcast together. Appropriately, we’re joined in this art themed adventure by actual artist and everybody’s favourite, Jimmy Ether.
Plus, we take a look at the life and career of writer and director Harry Hurwitz! Hurwitz wasn’t just a filmmaker - he was also a painter, and a film and art teacher. Amongst his students was the great Joe Dante, who said there’s a little bit of Hurwitz’s debut film in every Joe Dante film.

Sauer, and check out his 1995 newsroom comedy Broadcast Bombshells! There’s also a telethon, complete with comedy guests including an accordionist, and the threat of a bomb hanging over the whole thing. Somehow, though, no one really recalls much of the movie, with the obvious exception of Joey Mennonna’s classic hit Kitten with a Whip (written for the movie, not actually a hit).
We also talk about the life and career of the movie’s star, Amy Lynn Baxter. Baxter was Penthouse Pet of the Month in June 1990, and made an absolute fortune from feature erotic dancing and some seriously smart money management. She also had a confusing engagement to Ed Begley Jr.!

We’re joined this episode by Kelly and Ken from Compañeros Radio Network sister show Heavy Leather Horror Show, taking on not a horror film, but art crimes! Carnal art crimes, in Gregory Dark’s 1991 erotic thriller Carnal Crimes. This is Dark’s first erotic thriller, all the pieces are in place: an unsatisfied wife gets involved with a mysterious and mulleted photographer, only to find he’s more dangerous than he seems.
