Our Thoughts on Love on the Danube: Royal Getaway

    What We Liked

Dynamic Duo:We enjoyed the chemistry between Dan Jeanotte (Joe) and Jessica Sipos (Ava). Dan consistently brings charm to his roles, and Jessica's energy was palpable. Their interactions felt genuine, contributing to the movie’s overall emotional appeal.

Supporting Cast:Catherine Disher's presence was a definite plus. She’s the kind of character you’d want on your cruise — exuding wisdom and charm. Moreover, her scenes with Steven Pacey's Reynolds hinted at a compelling subplot that we wish had more screen time.

Scenic Locations:The movie’s on-location shoots were visually stunning. Budapest’s beautiful landmarks and the vibrant European backdrops significantly elevated the movie. Visually, it felt more genuine and less reliant on the cliché Hallmark sets.

Animated Intro:The custom animated intro for the movie was a delightful touch. It added a unique flavor and set a charming tone before delving into the story.

    What We Wished For

Plot Predictability:While enjoyable, the movie followed the well-worn Hallmark formula a bit too closely, making it painfully predictable at times. The fake royal trope is getting tiresome, and we long for some fresh storylines in future films.

More Cruise Content:For a movie centered around a cruise, there was surprisingly little "boat stuff." We hoped for more scenes showing the cruise experience, which felt sidelined in favor of land-based storytelling.

Our Thoughts on The Heiress and the Handyman

For a comprehensive review, be sure to tune into our podcast episode where we dive deep into all the details.

    First Impression

Our first impression of The Heiress and the Handyman? Well, the Dollar Tree fall decor was the only clue indicating this was a fall movie. Additionally, we were puzzled by the character June’s wig, which became a constant distraction throughout the film.

    What We Liked

There were a few things we appreciated:

Corey Sevier and Jodie Sweetin: Both actors delivered solid performances given the material they were handed. Their individual talents helped keep the movie afloat.

Community Theme: One of the elements we enjoyed was how June, played by Jodie Sweetin, found a sense of community and family in the small town. Despite her initial struggles, she began to immerse herself in her new surroundings, which was a redeeming aspect of the storyline.

Fall Vibes Attempt: At least the film made some effort to provide fall vibes with a festival, pie contest, and some fall foliage B-roll shots. While not the most convincing, it was better than no attempt at all.

    What We Wished For

Several aspects of the movie left much to be desired:

Character Depth: Rich is not a personality trait, and unfortunately, June was portrayed as a very one-dimensional character. We learnt about her lavish lifestyle, but not enough about who she really was.

Romance Between Bart and June: The romance felt forced and lacked substance.
