Hey guys! Thanks for joining me again on Identity. In this episode, we are talking to Aliya Ahwazi, who is an Arab from Iran. With everything happening in Iran, I believe its time we listened to the voices of the people. All people of Iran have a unique experience, the more we know about one another the more we can empthazie, understand, and hold space for each other. Its time to open our hearts and minds to hearing different perspectives, different voices, voices that have been silenced for far too long. We do not connect with one another or become united by silencing each other, but by connecting, sharing, and relating to one another personal experiences. With that said, I'm excited to share this conversation with you all.
Aliya Ahwazi is an Ahwaz Arab living in the United States. She advocates for the rights, dignity, and identity of the Ahwazi nation. You can find her on instagram @Ahwaz_studies

Tara Fatehi is a Kurdish Human Rights Activists working on the Kurdish Question for over a decade in Austrialia and Globally. More recently, Tara has been working hard on amplying Kurdish voices and other minorities during the Iran Revolution. On this episode, I will be talking to Tara about Kurdish Identity and Racism within the Iranian community. I will say that while I have personally heard many racist and ignorant remarks about the Kurds of Iran, its important to note that not all Iranians have nationalist views and not all Iranians are racist towards other ethnicities. This conversation is meant to shed light on a matter that is very taboo and extremely misunderstood and was sparked by the way Kurds were treated at protests outside Iran. My hope is that through this conversation we can spark some interest for Iranian and non-iranian people to want to be more informed on these matters.
