“Because the female body is so, so sensitive to stress, especially in perimenopause and menopause, we need to support it the right way, not only during the fast, but before the fast. And that means supporting your body with the correct amount of protein, the correct amount of nutrients. And then during the fast, I actually encourage small snacks throughout the day because there's research out there that shows that as long as we keep our calories less than 500 and we're still getting all the benefits of the intermittent fasting, but we're keeping our blood sugar stable because as you know, when our blood sugar crashes, our cortisol goes up and we don't want that. That's our fat storing hormone.”

“Just like anything in life, if we want something, we get to decide. I think it's all perspective and this is where I tie in the mindset component of the work with my clients is it's all around empowered decisions. So when we think I couldn't do that because I'd have to give up X, Y and Z, we take our power away, right? Instead of being like, well, what's possible, could it be possible, what would it look like? Has anybody else ever done this with kids balance, this lifestyle with kids because I did it in college and it's the same with my stepdad. It was really just I didn't see what was possible within me until he suggested it from a place of love. And it was kind of the same way with bodybuilding when I saw a friend of mine and she was a bodybuilder and thought her body, her physique was amazing, but I never thought I could do it. And she just such confidence says, of course you could. Yeah, of course I'll show you and it was just no big deal and I thought, really and so you learn through every stage.”

“I really like to focus on balancing blood sugar and that in itself can help fix waking up in the night. It can help fix the brain fog with the belly fat and it is a big transition and I like to work with just like women eating three meals a day and really like making those that breakfast, that lunch and that dinner, like, very substantial, but having a little bit of fasting time and fasting overnight as well. However, I know that change isn't the easiest to do and I think that is one of the hardest things, there's no magic pill that we can take to make things easy. And as we start to see these hormones decrease, like everything gets harder and we have to work harder, we have to allow ourselves the time for self-care so we can put that in.”

“It’s been a slow progression and I just have to keep reminding myself, I have so much shit that's been buried within because I didn't deal with that for 35 years. I have to slowly unpeel the layers back and not feeling shame or guilt around putting myself in this position because sometimes people can think, well, God, I just put myself into position. It's funny when we start to listen to the conversations we have with ourselves and how cruel we can be with ourselves. And it's just in just being gentle with ourselves and noticing the thought and letting it go and being okay.”

"Most of the time when people are in my sphere, you know, they're basically having trouble with weight loss. They're struggling with symptoms such as they keep gaining weight, they can't lose weight or they're losing weight, gaining weight, losing weight, gaining weight. They can't sleep. Maybe they have trouble following sleep, Maybe they have trouble staying asleep or maybe they fall asleep just fine. But then wake up in the middle of the night between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. They have belly fat. They have extra fat on their back. They don't feel like themselves. They have no energy. Their snappy short fuse, low energy. They get energy dips throughout the day. Or maybe they wake up and they just feel very, very tired and they just can't seem to get a grip. And they just feel like their brain is chaos because they can't focus and there's just this nonstop noise going on in their brain. Right. Totally sucks. I've been there. And so that is a prime example of somebody that would need this assessment and they could really, really, really benefit from the assessment."
In this episode of Master Your Mindset and Metabolism, I share how digging deep into your potential roadblocks with your metabolism, such as Metabolic Dysfunction and Damage can really be the core issue getting in your way. “The worst thing we can do and people do this is to be antagonistic and fight and complain and argumentative with them about it, which people do, and then take that home and rant about it at Facebook groups and the spouse and then lash out their kids. Because here's what I'm going to say, is that you're the one losing. At the end of the day, it's not them, and you're only going to feel worse because guess what really got you sick in the first place probably is all the psychological stress you've had in your life and then you're just reinforcing it. So like it's always going to be about controlling you, which is really the overarching and the fulcrum of what I teach people. Because challenges and difficulty, whether it's this or something else, is not going to change. It's all about working on what's inside and not being reactive, being more reflective, all that stuff. It's hard skill set to develop, but we can do it. But that is the real teaching because that's what's going to keep you you know, to sustain the life you want and to weather the storm.”

“I really believe that we will always follow through with who we believe that we are and we'll never be able to do something that is inconsistent with our identity. So, if you don't believe you're the kind of person who would X, Y, Z, your brain's not even going to question if you can or not, because that's not who I am. So, whenever I'm working with someone, for example, I'm always making sure that whatever the changes I help create, whether it's from anxiety to confidence or whatever, the happiness, like whenever I help them get that result, we make sure that that becomes a part of their identity so that way it actually sticks long term.”

“At the end of the year, I always sit and I think, what am I most grateful for? And you know, what's crazy is I was most grateful for the worst moments. because I could see how I processed myself through them. And I could see such huge growth like, I could just see and it made me proud of how you had navigated them. And so, yeah, I really just think it's every single thought that I have. Is just let's uncover what this is, because when I can, then I can propel forward. I really can truly see everything that I uncover that feels uncomfortable is a way to move forward.”

“You have the ability to build your business in a way that is going to support your needs and we're just creatives, right? And so we love to learn, we love to create and so you have to have that support staff and such that that will allow that to happen. Which is such a beautiful thing to work for ourselves because we can build it out however it is that we want to fit in our life versus trying to fit a like a round peg into or square whatever, into a round hole or whatever that whole scene is. Because I know that when I was working for somebody else, that's how I felt every day was like, I feel I feel like I'm trying to fit into something that I know I don't belong in like it was death to my soul.”

“There is no question there, menopause symptoms, they're very controllable. Anyhow, women, at least I know a lot of them that I tend to attract. My body is just doing this crazy stuff and I just don't know what to do anymore and it's like it has its mind of its own, but they don't recognize. But that's where you and I come in, where you can control these things. Stress management, your sleep habits, the stuff you're eating. I mean, it's just mind blowing to me, you know, it's all so crazy to me is when I ask somebody if they're in menopause or if they know they're in menopause, it's shocking to me that so many people don't know if they are or are not.”

“I was constantly moving from therapist to therapist while I was married, because I always thought I was the problem. And the therapist would be like, well, I mean, obviously you're not perfect, none of us are but in this scenario, you have to make a decision. You either accept his behaviors and live the rest of your life like this, or you just like walk away. And there was so many times that therapists, we would literally end after that because I wasn't ready to make that decision.”

“Stress does gives you a little bit of that that energetic boost. It gives you a little bit of focus but the problem is, is that people get addicted to that and that's where I was talking about. Are you addicted to the stress hormones? And that is where the problems come in and you have to pull the reins in on what are all of these dynamics that really need to be looked at in your life. What are the traumas, the toxins, the thoughts? All of those things, it's not just about one thing. All of this is about many, many factors.”

“Most people's metabolisms do need to be rebuilt. If you want to lose weight, you have to rebuild your metabolism because a lot of times it's broken for lack of better words. And of course your hormones must be balanced. So there's a good chance that you are fatigued, feel exhausted, you're having a hard time losing weight, you have low libido. You might have feelings of being depressed and you might wake up with a sense of dread. Trouble sleeping or maybe you have a hard time staying asleep. Headaches, migraines, have blood sugar, regulation issues and adrenal fatigue. Some people don't really understand what adrenals are, but every single one of my clients, we always support the adrenals. Always.”

“Now when it comes to a problem, we're going to talk about a couple of problems here. But we as women, we tend to think that if we exercise more and eat less, that this is going to be the answer to our problem, which is hanging on to weight, so on and so forth. But really all this does is it creates more hunger, low energy cravings, weight gain, and then you just keep repeating the cycle over and over. It's literally like a method for suffering. So if you're doing this, this is not going to work. If it does work for you and if it has worked for you, it will work for a very short amount of time and then you have to cycle out of it. You cannot stay in this type of a phase for long periods of time.”

“I work with a lot of women. Typically they are over 35, usually closer to 40. They are starting to feel the consequences of a lot of their choices from when they were in their twenties. For example, when I was in my 20’s I was constantly exercising! I would literally exercise 3x a day and eat a potato. Not knowing that I would be paying the price later on. So we tend to have these behaviors and way of operating and we think that that is the way to go when in fact all we're doing is creating a much bigger problems for later. Often times people have adrenal dysfunction. They don't recognize it because they don't know how bad they feel and some of the symptoms to look for. People have digestive issues…only going to the bathroom once a week. That is not normal. They are tired, but they they don't know how tired they truly are. When we become a certain age, for example, like menopausal women are definitely the type a type of woman that I work with as well. I mean, I'm 50 years old, right? And I'm perimenopausal. So menopause, premenopausal women, people who have PCOS, any thing that really involves hormones. But also, as you'll hear in this episode, I talk about how the mind is such a large part of what I do as well, because if we don't change things within that subconscious mind. It is imperative that I help you to recognize your operating system and belief systems because if you don’t, then you are always going to continue to do the same thing over and over and over again. And I help you to really bring that to the forefront so that you can rewire your brain and create a whole new reality. There's a lot to it and I love it!”
In this episode of Master Your Mindset and Metabolism, listen in as Kelly discusses the art of her practice. How being a coach is not about calories and exercise. “I remember back then I developed a nervous tummy and would puke bile in the mornings. When it came time to get ready for school, I was a nervous wreck all the time, and I remember that time my mom even took me to the doctor. It was just it was just an awful, awful time and my sister and I, we would actually talk about that a little bit. And the doctor had to do something very uncomfortable and he said, I'm sorry, I have to do this and we still talk about that like, why was that even necessary? I don't know, it's just weird. So, the nervous stomach really became a huge problem when I was around eight years old. And it's interesting now that I understand the nervous system and resilience and the way that we are able to handle certain situations and how fragile we really are. It's these past experiences that created some behaviours and habits that led through my later years.”

“The accountability and the humility, you know, the humility then brings on the courage. It's so incredibly important. You may be just thinking, okay, I want to start making changes here. And I think the most important thing is coming into this space of there is no judgment here. There is none whatsoever, like meeting people where they are and helping them along. And that's that, because there are things that we don't want to give up.”

“Values are connected to your beliefs and guide the decisions that you make. So why are they important? Well, when you get clear on them, you're not going to feel a sense of failure. You're not going to feel this resistance. You'll never feel uncertainty and you certainly will not feel indecisive. You will feel like that is a solid hell yes and then does the solid hell no. So for example, I lived my life with these four emotions. It was like a nonstop thing and oh my God, it was a struggle. And then becoming a business owner, it was just like that was the struggle, having these emotions and I've done a lot of work and I still do a lot of work and I still have some things that I'm not really sure. Like, what is that, is there still a weed in there right? So, I just decided to hire another coach, you and that I feel can help me work through that. There's something still there so, when I started to get very clear on my values, it made decision making so much easier.”

“I don't want you to think insulin is an absolute bad guy because it is an important hormone that we have. But we just have to be super mindful with insulin, right? And then we have your inflammation, which is basically your body's natural immune response to protecting and shielding itself. So, I want you to think about like inflammation as the cleanup crew. So, let's say, you know, you have stitches or you have surgery of some sort. We all know like inflammation is definitely going to be created because it is definitely part of the healing process. What people aren't recognizing, though, is that when they're eating certain foods and drinks and things like that, they are creating inflammation typically in the body, which then creates a chronic inflammation.”

“Most people might say, I just want a faster metabolism. No, you don't. If you had a fast metabolism, you'd have problems. You'd be hungry all the time. It would just cause massive issues. You'd be going to the bathroom all the time. You want a flexible metabolism, and the reason why you want to flex the metabolism is because you want it to be able to adapt to changes in a way that are positive so that you aren't affected negatively in the downstream. You want flexible metabolism. Now, just want to make mention here that metabolism and genetics, your metabolic rate is unique, as I had mentioned, about everything being true but partial. Everybody has their own unique fingerprint when it comes to your genetics and your metabolism. So what factors influence the metabolism are your gender, your age, body size, your body composition, physical activity and hormones.”
