Aadyaa Shah speaks to Krishna Purohit in part 2 of their interview.
Krishna Purohit long ago decided that he wanted to be as musical as his namesake (he’s still working on the wisdom bit). Currently, he composes music for film and ad videos, produces electronica under the moniker ‘Braja Jana’ and plays guitar/ synth for indie band Lawntuba. He trained for two years under legendary guitarist Ramesh Iyer, erstwhile assistant composer to RD Burman, before following a passion for cinema and taking up film composition and music rhythms under Mumbai-based Californian musician Dee Wood at Whistling Woods International Film School from 2013-15. As part of his exploration into music, he also worked at indie music venue and performance studio, the Bandra Base, as a sound engineer, working with music forms as varied as jazz and Indian classical, with a few experimental sonic art performances thrown in for good measure. With an eye to expanding his repertoire, he is currently pursuing his third year in Hindustani classical from Gandharv Mahavidyalay. He's worked on the original score for Bhasmasur, a feature film out on Netflix. He's also composed the music for various short films such as Little Man out on Disney+ Hotstar, Mandi and On the Blue Canvas. This episode has been edited by Aadyaa Shah and features music by Shalom Benjamin. -
