If there's any book that says "Give a shit, read some lit", it's Matilda. Is it just us, or was this book one of the absolute staples of growing up in the 90s? We all loved this book growing up, and in this episode we'll look at how it's held up to a modern reading, especially considering the author it came from.

Our first foray into the Fear Street series introduces us to the absolute winner that is Bobby Newkirk. He's got it all. Good looks, nice car, wealthy family, and an overabundance of self-assured charisma. Just a solid role model. He's also so good with the ladies, he's got a dating relationship with both of the hottest girls in school: the Wade Twins. But when he finds out that one sister might be murderously jealous and the other one might get him killed or imprisoned just by being with her, he's going to have to gaslight like he's never gaslit before just to stay alive. No problem for a stud like Bobby The Man, right?

Here we are again! Chapter 9 of the podcast begins afresh with new titles by previously visited authors, just not sequels to any books we've read. We start with Bruce Coville's (My Teacher is an Alien, My Teacher Fried My Brains) fantastical story of goblins, witches and wizards, secrets and curses, and a teddy bear brandishing hunchback. Find out why the darkest secret of this story isn't the non-lethal genocide on this fun-filled episode!

That's a wrap for our first all-request chapter of the podcast! Special thanks to Janelle, Mark, Matt, and Trip for their contributions to the last few episodes of the show. This week we'll cover the film/tv adaptations of the books as well as see what this AI thing is all about as we get ChatGPT to write us a couple stories that nobody has ever heard before! Stay to the end for a preview of the titles we're doing next chapter on our 8th chapter recap talk episode!

Can you imagine having to climb thirty flights of stairs every day to get to class? Man, the kids in Mrs. Jewls's class must have well toned quads and cardiovascular systems of steel. They also count out of order, read upside down, fall out of the window, smile for no reason, sell their toes, and turn mosquito bites into math.
Special thanks to our friend "Trip" Hazard for coming on to the show to discuss his suggested book we all loved when we were young and still do. Trip occasionally appears on shows with STAB Comedy Theater in Sacramento. You can find their podcast HERE or by searching 'stab comedy' in any podcast directory.

Houdini is a self-described exceptional hamster that can escape almost anything. He goes on an adventure of self-discovery when he sets off a series of events that make him flee the home of the humans that own him. Or something. I don't know. Not all of us read the book. But Matty Ice did! And he joins us on this excellent episode that you won't want to escape!

Goosebumps is BACK! This time we're down on the farm with a whole bunch of nefarious scarecrows doing evil things like... moving... waving... walking... not staying on their stake... and other various non-threatening things that are creepy. Will we find out why they're alive and what they want? Find out whether we find out or not on this episode, featuring a new segment where we rank the Goosebumps title as we read them!

Ever see The Last Starfighter? No? Good. Here's a totally original story that nobody ever saw before about a teenage boy who's so good at a video game that he gets transported to that game's world to save it from evil. All while he battles his own demons of...chocolate addiction. Andy, Harold, Josh, Matt, and Mark gather together in the same room to make sense of it all.

Kids want nothing more than to do whatever they want. But what happens when there's absolutely no adults around to tell them they can't, hampering their fun? Andy, Harold, and Josh discuss Sir William Golding's story of a group of schoolboys who get stranded on an island with total freedom to do whatever they want. But when a society built on unenforceable rules is cast aside, can cooler heads prevail to control the situation or will harsh circumstances lead to harsher, inhumane consequences? It's the final book of our chapter on tales of survival, and it's a widely esteemed classic, which makes for an instant classic episode of Reliterated you won't want to miss!

In the game Animal Crossing New Horizons, you build yourself a home on an island, collect resources, catch fish, befriend your animal neighbors, and spend ridiculous amounts of free time crafting items. So Island of the Blue Dolphins is basically the story of that game in a real world setting. Karana does all these things and more, logging 18 years of play time as she survives alone on the island that is her ancestral home as she waits to be picked up to be reunited with her people. Andy, Harold, and Josh are here to talk about it as we wonder just what abalone tastes like?

Every detective begins somewhere. For the Alden kids, it begins with a tale of survival for like a week in a boxcar they find near a town while on the run from a mean old man they don't want taking custody of them. How this transitions to a series of mystery-solving youths I don't know, but for now let's survive on the lam with the Boxcar Children!

We begin our survival-themed chapter with a survival story that's way more realistic than My Side of the Mountain. Imagine, if you will, a 13 year old boy thrust into a wilderness survival situation without the assistance and encyclopedic knowledge of nature and access to civilization that Sam Gribley had, and you have Brian Robeson. If you want to get those references, go listen to episode 12 of our podcast and then enjoy this one!
All that and a couple important announcements on this season 3 premiere of Reliterated!

It's been ice to be able to stay frosty with some cool wintry tales to chill out with in this chapter! Snowflakes Andy, Harold, and Josh recap the books that made us shiver, freeze in our tracks, or left us in the cold. The number of laughs you'll get this week is not below zero, so be sure to give this episode a download... I frigiDARE you! (Okay, that last one was a pretty big stretch, I'll admit.)

This episode we try to enjoy this tale of a magical land of fauns, gnomes, talking animals, and a wintry curse, but instead we choose to rant about Christianity, exaggerate scene setting, ridicule belief in ghosts, and trash talk Republicans, and then recast the story with Arnold Schwarzenegger roles. So your pretty standard Reliterated episode, really.

Andy, Harold, Josh, and Harold's dad's bird travel back in time with Jack and Annie Smith to Christmas 1776 in order to steal someone's mail to save Camelot. They also witness the fateful night the Continental Army crossed the Delaware River to rough up some Hessians and inspire one of the most famous pieces of Americana painted by a German.

Jaclyn is the new girl in town, and the town is an Arctic village in the middle of nowhere with an identical creepy-looking snowman in every yard to, uh, pay tribute to the giant evil snowman who lurks on the mountain top? Andy is haunted by the comma in the title, Harold takes longer to summarize the book than it takes to read it, and Josh does the M. Night Twist. References to Frozen are kept to an absolute minimum.

A domestic dog is stolen away and sold into a hard life put to work as a sled dog in the Klondike gold rush and undergoes a metamorphosis into a primordial beast in touch with his primitive side, and it makes us wonder...is this really a book that ought to have "shaped America" as many claim it did, especially in the American workplace?
