It is a great depiction of how life can be like a road with all its twists, turns, unpaved, potholes, smooth or bumpy. Sometimes you'll have curve railings and other times there won't be a safety net to prevent from falling into its abyss. Hey! It wouldn't be called life if it wasn't excited at every other turn. Recently, I had a chance to reconnect with a teacher from high school who had a lot of impact in my life. So much so, that when I was pursuing a degree while in the service, it was to be a teacher. While I did not go the teaching route after getting my diploma, Mr. Hanson made a lasting impression for the rest of my life. I have several of my high school friends who are teachers. One of my family members is also a teacher. Here is to all the Mr. Hanson's, Mrs. Harvey's, Mrs. Marron's, Mrs. Lee's, Mrs. Samaniego's who despite all the challenges as well as being extremely underpaid, are still making a difference on the lives of many students. As I remember back to this date, my mind is filled with memories as I stood there frozen watching the television. It would not be right if we did not talk and remember the lives of those who perished on that treacherous day. Not only the victims but also all the first responders as well as the service members who answered the call in the name of freedom. We, humans that is, have this skewed perception about success. We think, most of us and at times me, success has this straight linear rise from top to bottom. It boggles us when we encounter bumps or even obstacles on our path to our set goals. Especially in a day and age where social media can paint such an alternative illusive world. We see others "making it" and living "da life." When it reality, it is totally the contrary. Succes comes with a lot of things such as, hardwork, sacrifice, sleepless nights, grinding, and then some. The other day I was thinking back at my time in the Corps. I recalled a time when we had deployed to Iraq during the push and we had a vehicle on our convoy go down. Our stick (convoy) commander made a decision to tow the vehicle with a different type of variant type of vehicle. Something completely out of text book that eventually led to an accident. Although no one was hurt, it could have been pretty tragic nonetheless. From the beggining I was completely against this decision, however, the captain stuck with good or bad. I also had to give it to the young Marine who even suggested such an idea. He was confident about his suggestion thinking it was a good thing to do. Although their judgement call was not the best, both felt confident about it and stuck with it. Sometimes as leaders, very difficult decisions have to be made. Good or bad, one must at least be accountable for one's actions. Let's talk about it on the show.

Over the last two weeks, I have been spending time researching and learning more about the Survivor Benefit Plan aka SBP. As I was getting to retired, I had enrolled in this plan with no knowledge whatsoever of what it entailed. I recall asking the clerk at the administration office what this program was about. They had little to no knowledge they could provide. You will be surprised as to what this benefit is all about as well as how the funds are used/distributed.
