Dawson is a student of mine who has recently made some fantastic progress in his competitive shooting journey and just recently dealt with going into Sunday of a big tournament with the potential to win -- something that a lot of us eventually put ourselves in position to experience as we get better at this game. I was shooting with him and got to watch the way he handled the situation and saved our conversation on the matter for an episode of the podcast because the way that he handled this lends a valuable learning experience for all of us to take something away from. I hope you enjoy this conversation and take something away from it -- I know I did!

Believe it or not, it's not very often as podcast hosts, that Jason Rambo (The Dead Pair Podcast) and I get to sit down and have a friendly conversation with zero particular topic planned that we have to cover. So we decided to do just that on Sunday night immediately following the Jack Links Cup down in Florida -- this conversation took place in the hotel fitness center, sitting on dumbells, and lasted until 4 in the morning. And I have to say, it was one of the most enjoyable episodes I have ever recorded.
This is a bonus episode, but honestly I really think it's an incredibly valuable conversation to be a part of -- and I guarantee that you will laugh harder than any other Journey Podcast Episode that I will release!
In this episode, we cover everything from event management, a recap of the Jack Links, fixing NSCA Master Class, improving the growth of the sport, and so much more!
If you found this enjoyable, check out Part 2 on The Dead Pair Podcast being released this Thursday (3/16/2023)!

FINAL PART THREE: The last part of my conversation with good friend, and student, Curtis Dunbar. In this episode we wrap up our conversation discussing some of the experiences that he had along the way of learning to get better in this game. A great conversation for all levels of shooters!

PART TWO: We continue the conversation and get into the cliffhanger that we left all of you with at the end of Part One -- where we talk about a really cool experience that happened during a lesson with a visual exercise and go into some of the neurology behind all of it. We also get into the first half of some prepared topics that I wanted to discuss with Curtis in order to bring all of you some insight into what it's like to start taking lessons and changing the way that you approach this game to improve your shooting! I really enjoyed this conversation, and I hope that all of you do too!

PART ONE: I had an opportunity to sit down with a long time student of mine, Curtis Dunbar, and talk about his learning journey of implementing some of the things that we've discussed so far in the previously released episodes of this podcast. Curtis brings a fresh look and valuable perspective into translating the hyper analytical approach that I need to have when explaining things through a podcast medium in order to fit so much information into a short period of time -- this is a really fun conversation that takes a hands on approach into understanding the value of the different topics that we've gone through so far in Series One and Series Two of The Journey Podcast!

In this episode, I cover what to expect in your first tournament after trying to implement all of the new things we've been learning -- as well as what to do if the first tournament results you start to see are sub-par (HINT: That's good, it mean's you're learning!) and go in depth to explain why all of this happens. This is an audio version of an Educational and Formal YouTube LIVE Episode that was hosted February 2nd, 2023. I would recommend watching this on YouTube instead of listening to the audio only version so you can see some of the things on the screen that we talk about during this episode. The first part of the two part series on how to ACTUALLY practice! For the first time in our sport, I get in depth with how you really need to set up your practice sessions in order to minimize wasted effort and time and maximize the progress you make! This isn't just an episode where I give you a bunch of practice routines to follow or talk about what I do for practice (although some of that will come in Part 2) -- but instead I talk about how we can use modern day science and our understanding of neuroplasticity to "hack" the way our brain learns and catologues new physical experiences. Special thanks goes to Dr. Andrew Huberman and the Huberman Lab Podcast for being a wealth of knowledge on these types of topics and helping to educate his listeners on a wide variety of valuable information.
