  • Do you know how companies make money with your business and personal data? What if you could connect your data with non-competitors for mutual gain?

The online world is overflowing with opportunity… and high risks that can take your company down if you’re sloppy with your data. But then again, there’s a lot to be gained if you can find the right path.

Our guest in this episode is Nadab Akhtar. Nadab and his CrowdPoint team leverages smart contracts and blockchain technology to protect human identity with their Vogon Decentralized Cloud. This Vogon beast is designed to handle massive amounts of data - securely with ease.

You gain the benefits of transparent data sharing and a revolutionary new kind of secure data protection, plus reliable “data lake” CrowdPoint calls Collective Intelligence.

Join Nadab and David, our host, as they explore how CrowdPoint is trying to enable users to own their data, even as it moves around the world. We’re talking previously unprecedented control over things like identity, finance, and commerce in the new Web3 economy. At least that’s the CrowdPoint vision. We can’t predict whether they’ll succeed or not, but it’s something to consider.

This is NOT a technical discussion or deep dive into CrowdPoint’s technology. Instead, this podcast is a layman’s introduction into how businesses (small, medium, and large) ultimately could leverage CrowdPoint’s blockchain fintech in decentralized markets that connect real-world goods and services with consumers.

Nadab has 15+ years’ experience in corporate advisory and M&A transactions. He currently leads strategy, finance, banking, legal, and regulatory functions at CrowdPoint which has developed the first hybrid utility token to be filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

  • Life can be a lot like Chutes and Ladders, the classic children’s board game, says Richard Moran, author of a new book, NEVER SAY WHATEVER: How Small Decisions Make a Big Difference (McGraw Hill; April 11, 2023).

Each time you say “whatever” you slide down a chute, but each time you make a decision, you have the potential to climb a ladder and move forward. Moran, host of the syndicated show “In the Workplace,” observes that “whatever” has become a flippant remark that is essentially a dismissal of responsibility.

David, our host, and Richard agree that “whatever” is a “four-letter word,” similar to the F-word, S-word, N-word and others. It’s toxic, disrespectful, and can be irresponsible.

Moran takes this a step further. He believes at work using the “w” word can be a career killer with short-and long-term consequences. And in personal relationships it’s toxic. It almost always defers or eliminates a decision or a choice that should be made.

But the w-word is a habit. A bad one. Join this discussion if you’re tired of Gen Z or any other generation dismissing your ideas, concerns, and/or commands as a leader with “whatever…”

Moran has data to back up his conclusions, and ways to overcome this bad habit. Join this podcast to learn more.

Moran has served as a CEO, a college president, a venture capitalist, and a top-level consultant. He has worked for or with some of the world’s leading organizations including Accenture, Apple, News Corp, American Airlines, PG&E and many others. He prides himself on his matter-of-fact manner of consulting and believes that many parts of the business world are needlessly complicated.

Moran holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior but his work is not academic. Research is important, but he believes what is just as critical are the observations one can make by being in the “trenches” of business. His observations are candid, humorous, and true.

  • Would you like to Elevate, Elevate, and Excel what you do? Jim Saliba is a former engineer who’s become a leadership coach. He uses a scorecard to keep people on track that’s pretty interesting as part of his Triple E structure.

Jim also talks about the 4 fears of leadership. Do you have a negativity committee in your brain that keeps beating you up? Virtually everyone does. The key is how to overcome that noise to achieve results that are meaningful.

David called it a scorecard whereas James refers to it more as metrics to rate your people. Color code it to know people’s capabilities at a glance. What criteria would you put on that scorecard? It can’t be too long, or too short. It’s got to be Goldilocks length, and have the specifics that are most important about your team.

Starting his career as a software engineer and eventually becoming a VP of a $4 billion tech company, Jim developed his Six-Step Leadership Challenge, which he later shared in a book that was released in Sept 2022.

Join this podcast if you’re looking for ways to overcome your fears as a leader, or you want to create a powerful scorecard to use with your team to drive results to the next level.

  • The USDA says food waste is “estimated to be roughly one third of the food intended for human consumption in the United States.” Our guest today, Matthew Bertulli, says the actual number is closer to 40% of our food ends-up in landfill.

When food is wasted it goes to the dump, which generates methane. Methane gas is more toxic than Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This is serious stuff, but what can you do about it besides trying to waste less food?

Well… what happens in your grocery shopping and kitchen makes a difference.

Matthew is a software engineer, who reluctantly turned into a marketer and entrepreneur. After bootstrapping his first company to 100+ people over 10+ years, he sold it to private equity in 2018. He had stumbled onto the gargantuan problem of waste on our planet. It overwhelms many, but Matthew zeroed in on one issue he found complicated because he loves a challenge: How to combat food waste.

The result is Matthew is the Co-founder and CEO of two consumer brands: Pela Case and Lomi.

Pela is a certified B-corporation, has Jay-Z as a notable investor, was named Top 10 in the Canadian Business Growth 500 ranking, and is #1 in Deloitte’s Fast 50 for cleantech businesses in Canada.

Lomi has a countertop food waste compost system that has sold over 120,000 units. But can these two companies slow the earth’s demise enough to make a difference?

To learn more, join David conversation with Matthew.

And by the way, if you decide to purchase a Lomi, use the promo code, manage2win, for a discount.
