In this episode we have a conversation with David Bedrick. David is a Jewish author, teacher, attorney and psychologist that focuses most of his work on what he calls unshaming and helping others see themselves more than through the lens of shame. In this episode David gives us a window into how his Jewish identity and experiences has shaped him and his worldview. We then discuss the current situation in Palestine and having a morally clear vision of what is happening, but a humanizing one at the same time. We then end on the idea of unshaming, what a lens of shame is and how to dismantle shame in our own lives and others.

CW/TW: mention of miscarriage loss in this episode.
Welcome to the first episode of 2024!In this first episode of the new year we have a peer and friend of ours Serra Jane on to share her story. In the spirit of breaking down dualistic thinking and disrupting narratives we hear her story of growing up Christian and then eventually practicing Islam. Her own journey is a beautiful window into that world. We then get the honor of holding Serras story of dealing with loss through miscarriage and why sharing stories for collective healing and helping each other feel less alone is immensely important for our mental health and overall wellbeing.Support Serras shop:

In our last a final episode of the year we cover our favorite episodes and reflect on this years podcasting. A big thank you to everybody that leans in with us and listens to our voice. We are excited to bring more conversations and some progression to this podcast in 2024. We round out talking about the spirit of giving during Christmas, but specifically giving our voice and solidarity to Palestinian liberation this season. In such a tense topic we believe we must cut through the noise and stand with humanity, and so here that means speaking up for Palestinian dignity and liberation.

First off, so great to be back with you all sharing this collective online space!
In this episode your hosts (Kyle and Jonathan) are back to talk a bit about masculinity, binary thinking and suicide awareness, because these intersect more than you think! With so much going on in our world we talk about us being complex humans, which we have chatted about in previous episodes, being confronted with complex moments/histories and navigating that better than the dualistic and binary thinking that has become ingrained in the human psyche.

In todays episode you will hear from our other host, Kyle Ridgley and his own journey of deconstruction, mental health and navigating a crisis of faith that has lead him to where/who he is today and why he is passionate about helping others navigate their own mental health and see people flourish. He then shares about navigating life where he is now as a gay man. His story is powerful and worth listening and leaning into. We hope you are encouraged by this episode and have enjoyed getting to know your hosts a little better.

In this episode, your hosts Jonathan Coggins and Kyle Ridgley do some reflection. We reflect on our episodes on liberation out of reformed/calvinistic spaces with Noah and Hannah and our episode on ADHD in a neurotypical world with Alex of the Epics Podcast. We give our own thoughts and things we took away from each episode. We then move into a conversation about progressing and wholeness, and the interconnectedness of those two things. We round out with the importance of progressing to continually become, because we are all becoming in some way. We hope you enjoy our conversation!

In this episode your host Jonathan Coggins brings his own thoughts around change and progressing. In a world that is rapidly changing this a conversation that is needed and sometimes in an off the cuff and raw disposition. Then his own thoughts around guns, trauma and the need for change in that conversation. We hope you all enjoy this short, but we believe potent episode!

We at The Pour Over Podcast thought given our cultural moment and climate surrounding the conversation of LGBTQ people this would be a good re-release. Hopefully re-listening to this episode can humanize this conversation, and wherever you fall or don't fall religiously, and bring us all into better neighborly love and to see people in the LGBTQ community worthy of dignity, love, respect and equality. Bridget brings a powerful voice and perspective to this conversation!

In this episode we have Alex Wait of The Epics Podcast where he shares stories to fight hate and marginalization to help chart better paths forward in our world and we LOVE that at Peaks & Valleys. Alex opens up and shares his journey of being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and navigating life with ADHD in a world built for neurotypical people. His story and perspective is challenging, beautiful and hopefully liberatory in the way we view the diversity of people in the world around us. We then have a conversation about his own podcast and the work he is doing to break down the binaries many of us have been given and better ways to live in the rich diverse world we inhabit.

This episode is very special. We got to share the table with and hold two journeys from two beautiful souls. We were joined by Hannah Lloyd and Noah Althoff to share their journey of navigating being in the calvinistic/reformed mode of evangelicalism. We explore what their individual experiences were, where they overlapped and what broke that tradition for them. We also talked their views of mental health within that tradition and some of their own personal experiences with their own mental health. We land on seeing life in a more liberating way after that mode of evangelicalism and some good steps and charting better paths forward.

In this episode we have a guest co-host Timothy Lloyd to talk all things resisting Christian Nationalism. Tim is deeply committed to Jesus, but also resisting oppressive forms of Christianity like Christian Nationalism and seeing all humans flourish. We talk what is Christian Nationalism, why we resist it, why others should speak up against it and how it affects our non-religious, non-straight, immigrant, or other religious neighbor.

Content and trigger warning: mentions of suicide
In this episode we sit down with our friend and creative entrepreneur/barista Dylan Studt. We have a conversation about having outlets for your mental health and his own experiences with mental health and what he has observed as a peer. We round this conversation out on Dylan giving us ways to chart better paths forward in supporting youth in their mental health journeys and ways to create safe spaces for those youth and young adults that are on the margins (race, LGBTQ, religious margins AKA not christianity).

In this episode, your hosts Jonathan and Kyle will be responding to a terrible take on mental health from within the church that actually harms people and does not lead to human flourishing. We directly confront the harmful views and deconstruct them and then help chart some better paths forward to moving away from these harmful views.
