Chevese is a voice you may already have heard (or seen on social media) if you’re in the eating disorder space because she’s not afraid to use it. With a background in political science, advocacy is something she knows well. In this episode, Chevese and I talk about the experience of being that voice for those who might not have one and how she leverage social media as a platform for advocacy—and both the good and the challenges that come with it.
Meet our guest, Chevese
Chevese Turner’s dedication to health equity began early in her career as part of a team working to ensure cancer patients had ongoing access to critical treatments. Driven by her own struggles and recovery, she founded the Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) in 2008 to address the unmet needs of people with the most prevalent eating disorder and was integral to Binge Eating Disorder (BED) receiving its designation in the Diagnostic & Statistics Manual’s 5th edition increasing the validation and recognition of the disorder.
In more recent years, Chevese has turned her focus to providing direct coaching and group services to individuals who are larger bodied, with or without eating disorders. She is the co-founder of Attune, a program developed to help larger bodied individuals recreate their relationship to body, food and movement. Through Attune, Chevese works also with individuals to navigate the healthcare system which is widely understood to discriminate based on body size, leading to avoidance of health needs.
Additionally, Chevese is an eating disorder and anti-weight discrimination advocate, educator, co-author and speaker, and the founder of the Body Equity Alliance in which she assists organizations and brands to create inclusive campaigns, policies and environments that feature and accommodate higher-weight people. She also co-developed and continues to host Weight Stigma Awareness Week annually with Dr. Wendy Oliver Pyatt. This important awareness week seeks to educate and push for change around the discrimination larger bodied individuals experience in various aspects of their lives, from healthcare to employment to leisure activities. Chevese is passionate about empowering people to reclaim their dignity, respect, and well-being, and to challenge the systemic and cultural barriers that prevent them from accessing quality care, opportunities and joy.

This is something I talk about a lot with clients at the start of working together. You can’t create content that will land—and stand out - if you aren't filtering it through the lens of your unique POV. So today, I'm sharing a little bit about how you can take that brand message and turn it into content that's truly unique and how to use the data to continually evolve as you do it.
Be sure to check out the client I mentioned in this episode, Columbus Park, on Instagram.

It's time to ditch that pie-in-the-sky vision of getting 100K followers or hundreds of likes on each post.
I'm not saying you have to settle (growth is very much possible—and I do it for clients all the time!), but true success looks different for everyone, especially for a small mental health business or solo professional.
Like this idea or hate it—just make sure you listen to it.

When we lead with emotion (the benefit of the benefit) our customers respond—yet so often we forget to do that. Tune into this great conversation with Paul and me, as he brilliantly shares examples of how this worked for him and his team at Lemonaid Health and how important it is to implement across all channels and within all of your messaging, from customer care to social media.
Meet Paul
Paul started his entrepreneurial career at age 15. At age 28, he relocated to San Francisco, investing his life savings to revolutionize the US healthcare landscape through the launch of Lemonaid Health - the first national direct-to-consumer healthcare service. Peter Levine, Ph.D., the developer of Somatic Experience, the first somatic-based therapy for PTSD, was Owen’s next teacher. His interest in how to use the unconscious mind to produce lasting change got him an invitation to apprentice with Milton Erickson, MD.

Blog content—educational, value-based, well-written content—can be hugely impactful for your business when done right. Here's the thing: most of the time it's not consistent, it's missing all the important pieces (I.E. SEO, focus, keywords), and so it falls flat.
Instead of giving up on blog content, tune into this episode to find out how you can do it better and leverage it as a valuable marketing tool for your business.
