Can you imagine floating every weekend in the Dead Sea?
Meet Serina, co-founder of The Dead Sea Company. That is how she spent her childhood and now, together with her sister and brother, they've created a skin care line based around their "hero ingredient" the Dead Sea mud. We talk about giving yourself little breaks to reset throughout your week and how a 5 minute skincare routine can feel luxurious, not like a chore. (i.e. You look forward to a mud mask; you don't get excited about taking off your makeup.) Come along with me and learn how to paint your face! Bonus! Use code JOY at checkout to receive 10% off your order. https://www.thedeadseaco.com/pages/the-dead-sea-glow Mother's Day is coming up—The Dead Sea Mineral Mask Kit is a beautiful gift! I'm also going to include it in grad gifts. @thedeadseacompany

What do you think about my dad's comment?
Do you ask for help?
Do you do it all yourself?
And the biggest question: What in your life is feeling like a 'no'? Because...if it's not a HELL YES, it's a NO. Take that through every aspect of your life.

Have you thought of this before (re: your kids)?
"How much time do I need to spend with these people?" You may be surprised by the answer. I've completed a course by the Language of Listening—it's based in positive psychology and play therapy. In this episode, I share one of the skills I'm about to put into practice. It feels weird and too basic and my kids might be annoyed by it—but I'm also looking forward to it! Listen in to see if you want to give it a try with your kiddos. Rachel Norman is a parenting coach who facilitated this course. Her blog is a useful parenting gem! She's a guest on an upcoming episode. Stay tuned! https://amotherfarfromhome.com/ SAKARA: No cooking! I went to a tequila tasting. It was comical and lackluster and a good example of what NOT to do in your business. My friend who joined me was weeks away from the grand opening of her business. The way this event unfolded shined a spotlight on how she wants to conduct herself and how she wants her clients to feel, in her space. This is valuable intel; and it was gained in an unusual way!
Also in the episode, I mention the MyFLo app. I have been using this app for many years—it's so much more than a period tracker. It was my introduction into cycle syncing. When a woman, who is still menstruating, understands how she is different/her needs are different during each of her 4 phases throughout the month, her life makes more sense! The clarity you'll receive! That's why I had low energy then! Oh, so my desire to organize everything (!) last week was normal! etc. There are specific foods that support you during each phase. Your body craves certain types of exercise during each phase. And, due to hormonal levels, your brain is optimized for different tasks within each phase. I continue to find this so interesting. And also, continue to eat chocolate avocado pudding during my menstrual phase. (simple recipe here) To quote the app, during your ovulation phase: aka, your sparkly time, "The overall hormonal effect on the brain is one of openness to new things, creativity and beginnings." —Flo Living Interested in cycle syncing? In this week's episode, we are going inside Vida Voyager—a new local boutique with colorful, Scandinavian vibes.
Nasha's story is a great example of slowly taking action in the form of following your curiosity. She made a major career change from working as an attorney for the Federal Court of Appeals in San Francisco to moving to Plymouth, Michigan...and taking small steps which lead her to become the owner of the sustainably sourced and chicly curated boutique, Vida Voyager.
We need local boutiques. Because even though you can go online and have the world at your fingertips, there's something to be said about creating communities. These shops make up the streets that make up towns. Supporting the owners of these businesses is imperative—they're bringing us something that we may not find on our own. They're opening our eyes and giving us an experience—whether that's by ourselves or strolling with a friend.
See how a Stylist shops :)
We shot an in-store video of me perusing the goods! Click HERE to watch.

Ever feel like you just can't get it together? Me too. There's a deep root to that. You might be in fight, flight, fawn or freeze mode. What I've come to see now, is that I was in what is called the freeze state. I went through a year long divorce (while living together) and couldn't get it together to show up, authentically, to continue hosting this podcast that I enjoy so much. It's been over 6 months since then. During that time, I intentionally put a pause on action and expectation. This is something that was so foreign to me—not taking action, not making “it” happen…I have high expectations of myself, and so, the combo of not doing and being OK with that, felt terrifying. The truth is, I've recorded lots of episodes during this pause time—introspective ones on what it's like to grieve, adjust to a new life, and really feel the root cause of how my life unfolded in this way, and guest chats too. I held back on airing these episodes because…I was afraid. I felt scared that I would say too much, be too vulnerable—put those emotions out there like some silly high school girl on TikTok. But then I reminded myself that I would have LOVED to have heard someone who was going through what I was, at that time. I'm excited to bring back the show! Thank you for listening. I'm back from my Greece immersion! We can call it a wellness retreat, spa camp or, relevant to the topic of this podcast—the ultimate solo date.
Going on this trip was a big deal for me. I was travelling by myself, internationally, meeting up with people I didn't know, on an island I've never been to for 10 days. My motivators were fun, relaxation, beauty and exploration.
The experience proved once again, that it's ok to say 'yes' to yourself...to do the thing that gives you excitement, rest or peace.
I haven't seen examples of women like me doing this. I see multi-millionaire women, who are mothers of young children carving out time for retreats. I'm not there. What I do see is women in my demographic feeling like they need a reason to say yes to rest, fun or their interests.
The word 'deservingness' feels big. You might attach arrogance to it or a whole bunch of other emotions.
In my conversations with women on this trip, I've realized there's a mindset that you have to be burnt out from work or your family...have a health scare or have gone through a traumatic experience to deserve an epic vacation, time to yourself, meals that make you feel good, or the time you need each day for your health. (physical, mental etc.) Often, we rally around the woman who is at a low, to give HER permission to take what she needs to get back on track.
What if we didn't let it get to that point? I'd love to see more women speaking up and receiving what they need (rest, adventure, support and so on). I don't see the downside to making yourself a priority. It's a form of prevention!
Be the role model you need to see and in doing so, you'll be one to others.
This episode's quote is: "When you communicate your needs. You give other people permission to do the same."— To Be Magnetic Journal

You already do this me-time activity! I'll give you 3 clues:
* You do this a few times a year
* It's a non-negotiable
* You feel pretty afterwards
Listen to see if you guessed correctly. :)

Playing hooky today. Well, not really...but in my old mindset, taking this time, during a weekday, for nourishing conversations...I would have viewed this as frivolous. But now, I make it a point to schedule in warm conversations with people whom I really enjoy talking to. And gasp! It isn't only after the kids go to bed. Also, listen to my PSA about the scam I found myself in through Facebook Marketplace. Sellers beware!

Do you see repeating numbers? 333, 444, 11:11 etc, on your microwave, a building's address, the back of a car...I do! That's what propelled my interest in a 2 hour online numerology class. Wanna figure out what is your Life Lesson #? (or that of your kids' or your partners'?) It's easy: take your date of birth: month, date and year and reduce each down to a single digit, then add then up to a single digit. Example: March 10, 1982 0+3 = 3 1+0 = 1 1+9+8+2 = 20 = 2+0= 2 3 +1+2 = 6 Life Lesson # is 6. The course I took is from here: https://www.soulfulrevolutiontv.com/

I realize checking a social media account doesn't sound like much of a me-time activity. But since I hadn't been on Facebook in 10 years, it was a bite-the-bullet, what's-this-going-to-be-like activity, that I both was looking forward to and a little intimidated by. The interactions I had were funny and odd.
Listen in to hear the details and to be reminded that certain mindsets around productivity are toxic for you.

Doing something you've wanted to try but didn't have the nerve to do, checks the box for a "me time" activity. In this episode, my sister, a stressed out veterinarian student, gets her hair colored pink!
She also shares research on the dog/human bond. All you animal lovers will wanna hear this!

"A pedicure is not self-care." I heard this on my phone as I was cleaning up breakfast, just before recording this episode. Nice timing!
I agree and disagree with that statement. You know I am a sucker for body works/spa treatments and I do think these are forms of self-care; they're the obvious or surface-level ways of taking time for yourself. Another way of showing yourself this care is reflection—thinking about the people you are interacting with, the environments you spend time in and the things you're doing day-to-day. If you don't like the way you are feeling in any of those areas, asking yourself how you can make it more fun or easier, is a way of taking care of yourself. I really enjoyed my time at Color Box.
