The Taiwan-born designer found her original inspiration in a Laura Ashley dress owned by her mother—and she snipped, stitched, and sewed her own wardrobe until she recreated the clothes she pined after. Once her technique was refined in Asia and Europe, she launched her label in Tokyo in 2011. Her designs are meant to embody the female gaze—influenced by past and present Japanese subcultures, Asia, and ‘80s American culture. Her creations are fun, yet deeply personal and have gained a cult following across the globe. In this interview, Fax delves into the highs and lows of her childhood, pushing the boundaries of the classic Japanese aesthetic, “Kawai”, and how her motto of “It’s okay to not be okay” played into her role in The Tour ‘23.

But help is on the way—Reshma Saujani, the woman who founded Girls Who Code and the Marshall Plan for Moms, is here and she’s on a mission. Her new book, Pay Up: The Future of Women and Work, is calling for private and public policies to completely reconfigure the workplace. “Cancel all the women's empowerment series that you have!” is her message for employers, “and focus your company on how you are going to change all your corporate policies to make it possible for women to work and have kids.” She’s got ideas – and the track record to prove she can make them come to life. Is this the woman who’s about to change everything for moms across America? Our host Amanda de Cadenet finds out.

Meet Deja Foxx now, because she’s going all the way. One of the youngest people in modern history to have worked on a presidential campaign, she not only intends to run for the White House “but I intend to win.” As one of the one in three young Americans who are ‘hidden homeless’, she stood up to senator Jeff Flake over his attempt to ban women from access to Planned Parenthood. “Why would you deny me the American Dream?” she asked. She was just 16 years old. Her protest went viral, and a political and personal star was born. She hasn't wasted any time since, and at the age of just 21, has already helped her heroine Kamala Harris become the first female, first Black and first Asian American Vice President, has become an active campaigner for reproductive justice and founded a digital community, GenZGirlGang, that seeks to redefine the way women and femmes do business, create relationships and build society. Amanda de Cadenet talks to Deja about community, scarcity and success - and what Kamala Harris tattooed on her arm.
