  • Watch Skip Plus Episode 101: Terrifier 3

The Cinemasochist returns as he and Cupcake take on the box office horror sensation Terrifier 3, and yet again: They get downright philosophical and explore the nature of horror films and icons, "the horror film fan" vs "the Marvel film fan", and along the way, name drop iconic horror directors. No Emcee this week, but he will return next with with a big SMILE (hint hint). The two explore what makes the third installment in the Terrifier franchise unique, where it retreads topics from the first films, and their favorite kills! Is it a must-watch? Tune in to find out!

  • Watch Skip Plus Episode 100: Deep Dive into Joker Folie à Deux

Join hosts Jose (aka Cupcake) and Alex (aka Emcee) as they celebrate their 100th episode with an in-depth analysis of Joker: Folie à Deux. In this milestone episode of Watch Skip Plus, they debate the film's artistic narrative style, its psychological depth, and character development, as well as its impact as a comic book sequel. The hosts engage in humorous exchanges, providing contrasting opinions and discussing the film's musical elements. Besides, they offer insights on the film industry, lifestyle tips with reviews of non-alcoholic beers, and a new Stephen King adaptation. They also ponder the future of the Joker franchise, contemplating a potential third installment with a chaotic Joker akin to the comics. This episode is a must-watch for film enthusiasts interested in detailed critiques and entertaining discussions.

Just a heads up, we are still adjusting to life on video. The recording software we are trying out couldn't render Cupcake's video, so we had to use a meeting recording that contained both audios and videos which caused some technical difficulties when attempting to mix and master. No multi-cam this week but it should be back for our next episode with some better audio as well.

In this episode, hosts Emcee and Cupcake dive into the intricate history and contentious reception of Francis Ford Coppola’s 'Megalopolis.' They discuss the film's problematic production, including cast and crew issues and legal hurdles, alongside the novel but flawed volumetric capture technology used. Alex expresses his intense disappointment, influenced by his viewing experience with Alexus (a FIRST in the history of Watch Skip Plus), while Jose provides a more balanced critique, acknowledging the film's ambition but criticizing its execution.

  • Episode 98: The Not A Bomb / Watch Skip Plus crossover is here and it’s a TWO AND A HALF HOUR JOURNEY!

PODCASTERS ASSEMBLE! Not a Bomb and Watch Skip Plus do their first ever epic crossover episode and it’s a doozy: All four hosts were hanging out together live and in person for a whole week so they all just had to share the fun times with all the listeners!

First up, NAB’s special segment on Baltimore Comic Con and the treasures Troy and Brad found while Cupcake talks popping his Comic Con cherry. And FILMS…the films we watched!!!! The crossover plus is a surprise taste test of a limited edition drink.

Then the Watch Skip’ers and NAB dudes review Coralie Fargeat’s sophomore feature film: The Substance starring Demi (It’s duh-MEE) Moore and Margaret Qualley. Believe it or not, due to the format of both pods, the film matches both shows’ criteria: a new release and a bomb (box office figures are showing weak weak turnout). Is this indictment of society’s impossible beauty standards a BOMB or is it a stunning theatrical “Do I keep watching or walk out?”, gross-out body horror experience?

  • Episode 97….shhhhhhhhh…don’t speak. Just listen. In this episode, hosts Cupcake (Jose) and Emcee (Alex) dive into “Speak No Evil”, the new Blumhouse written and directed by James Watkins (heads up: It’s a remake of a 2022 Danish thriller of the same name!). They discuss the performances, especially James McAvoy’s bonkers, drolling, hulking performance and evaluate the film’s effectiveness in creating tension and delivering a thrilling experience. With robust audience participation and some humorous tangents, the hosts ultimately provide a nuanced perspective on whether the new “Speak No Evil” is a watch or a skip, touching on awkward scenarios in the film, its portrayal of family dynamics, and audience reactions in their respective screenings.

  • Episode 96 appears from the Afterlife, complete with a waiting room ticket!!!

Emcee and Cupcake are joined by the host of the Backlook Cinema Podcast, Zo to review “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, the direct sequel to the 1988 classic. The film summons the original director (Tim Burton) and stars (Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara) for more bio-exorcist shenanigans. Just don’t say his name three times….the recording and editing took a (after)lifetime because Cupcake’s PC kept crashing. But with the magic of editing, the Boyz let you know if this is a fun eccentric laughfest worthy of the genre-busting original or if it’s more of the same and deserves banishment to that weird planet with sandworms (and we ain’t talking Dune here!)

Turn on the Watch/Skip juice and see what shakes loose!

  • Episode 95 just for you the Strange Darling review Cupcake and Alex recorded

The Boyz are back with another episode! This time they are joined by the incredible John from the “And Now For Something A Little Bit Different” YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/@johnhorgan1713), and the three take a break from big studio fare to review the current buzzy-super hot indie “Strange Darling”. With an incredible pedigree - one of the producers wrote the book “1001 Films You Need to See Before You Die”, indie actor extraordinaire Kyle Gallner, the DP is none other than actor Giovanni Ribisi - is Strange Darling with its lush filmic cinematography, intense performances, and non-linear, time-jumping narrative THE IT indie thriller of the year (in a year with some sparkling indie fare) or is it pretentious arthouse drivel?

You may need to actually SEE the film and then listen to the full episode to find out!

Starring Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie, the film features a knockout cast of veteran and new actors (Simon Rex! Adria Arjona! Is this likely-to-be-polarizing, psychologically violent allegory for gender politics and power dynamics albeit gorgeously shot a watch or a skip?

Amidst the giallo-esque shadows and John Carpenter nods, a gorgeous cast including Hunter Schaefer, Jessica Henwick, and Dan Stevens spreads its wings to peck away at the central mystery of this sci-fi/supernatural tinged thriller. • QUIT THRASHING ABOUT IN THE WATER AND LIFE-PRESERVER OUR NEW EPISODE!

The Boys dive into the streaming waters again and take on the French shark thriller Under Paris. Directed by new wave French horror director Xavier Gens - who counts as his new wave compadres Alexandre Aja (“High Tension”), Bustillo and Maury (“Inside”), and Pascal Laugier (“Martyrs”) - Sous La Seine (it’s original French title) chums viewer expectations with the ultimate B movie Jaws-ripoff scenario: a shark in the Seine and the catacombs of Paris. Will streaming audiences take a bite out of this thriller that has plot points touching on evolution and climate change in addition to people getting chewed up Richard Shaw style or is this an uneven paced, cringe acting, lousy CGI a la SyFy cold fish?

For his plus, Emcee talks “State of the Movie Union” now that we are halfway through the film release year….there will be stats/numbers, business talk, and #saveexhibition. Cupcake takes loyal listener Chris “Judd” Hoover’s suggestion and ventures into the theatres to “watch” an M. Night Shyamalan-adjacent film.

WE’RE BAAAAAAACCCCCKKKK!!!! After a short break, the Watch/Skip’ers make a killer comeback on a new episode that is special in more ways than one! Emcee and Cupcake take on their first streaming exclusive film - Netflix’s Hit Man, directed by Richard Linklater and current IT dude, Glen Powell. The two are joined by one of THE pod-fathers - Sam U. Rai from the long running and vaunted Gentleman’s Guide to Midnite Cinema. And hang on for the ride: three plusses (Bruceploitation!, nasal orifices, and tires), a discussion of Linklater’s career, talk of personality tests, morals, flexing, and the definition of your new favorite buzzword: “vatican wafer”. Is Hit Man the herald of a new millennial movie star in the mold of Newman, Brando, and Cruise or should Hollywood really stop trying to make Glen Powell happen?

Can’t invite family and NOT have them stay for a bit of “Q & Alex” so Sammy sticks around for the peek into the host’s psyche. There’s pie, podcasts what if’s, cartoons, political correctness, and, uh………cinematic boners.

PUT A HIT OUT ON THE NEW EPISODE!!!
