I love answering questions! And, well, I also love reflecting, so there you go ;)
Let's start with the questions I received this month:
Questions:
1: How do I train myself to stay calm?
I am making an effort to stay in a peaceful state. I focus on pressing the pause button before I respond, remembering to pause and take intentional breaths. I learned these techniques from reading the book Breath. Additionally, I move my body several times daily and stand during work calls or podcast recordings. I also take 1-2 exercise classes each week.
I also use essential oils such as lavender and "calming" blend I buy from Young Living Oils (link below!).
Resources:
Dwell Bible App
Essential oils, young living
Class Pass
Breath, The New Science of a Lost Art (book)
2: How do I transition from summer to fall with food, activity, and self-care?
I transition from salads to warmer foods such as grilled veggies, protein, and soups.
I still go outside every morning, rain or shine, and look toward the sunrise, as this helps reset my circadian rhythm, which helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep.
I use Class Pass to stay active, which allows me to move my workouts inside if the weather is terrible. I can also use Class Pass while traveling to try different workouts. I love it!
I protect my sleeping environment by lowering the lights at night and wearing my blue light blockers (this helps my body produce more melatonin).
We also use an Air Doctor machine in our bedroom; I bought one because so many people I respect in this field were talking about them, and I love it! And it provides a little white noise as well, a win-win.

You know what? Making your home less toxic can be quite a puzzle! I never even thought about hidden toxins in my home until I chatted with some guests on my podcast. It got me thinking about where these toxins might be hiding.
To keep things manageable, I decided to tackle it one room at a time. I also didn't want to toss out stuff I loved and paid good money for, even if they were "just a little toxic."
And what does "just a little toxic" actually mean? HELP!
That's why I started looking for a lower-cost way to detox my home.
And that's how I found Ron and Lisa Beres, the Healthy Home Dream Team.
Lisa's life turned upside down after she became severely ill from exposure to toxins in a newly remodeled home. On her healing journey, she discovered simple and inexpensive ways to detox your home, office, and probably the most crucial room for women: the bathroom! Did you know that women are exposed to hundreds of toxins (beauty products) before leaving the house in the morning? UGH!

Clearing the Path: Eliminating Toxic Relationships for a Better Life
When your button pusher walks toward you, do you pretend not to see them?
Okay, maybe it's just me!
Before cancer, I had a handful of toxic people in my life. I didn't spend a lot of time with them, but when I did see them, I could feel my anxiety rising even before we got together!
When today's podcast guest, Dr. Jantz, mentioned that he wanted to do a podcast about the impact of toxic people on our health, I was all in!
Spending time with toxic people can affect your health in the following ways:
It can increase your sympathetic response, leading to higher heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate.Your body may produce more stress hormones, which can cause inflammation. It can also damage your confidence and affect your sense of identity. How do you move the toxic people out of your life, especially if they are family members?
Dr. Jantz suggested having a friend or spouse nearby when dealing with difficult family members at events. If you get upset, use a pre-agreed safe word to signal for support in removing yourself from the situation. With some pre-planning, you can avoid getting caught up in their negativity.
Listen to today's podcast to hear the rest of Dr. J.'s tips on dealing with toxic people.
About Dr. Gregory JantzDr. Jantz is the founder of The Center A Place of HOPE in Edmonds, Washington, voted a Top Ten facility for Depression Treatment in the United States. Dr. Jantz pioneered Whole Person Care in the 1980s and is a world-renowned expert on depression, anxiety, eating disorders, technology addiction, and abuse.

Take a Chill Pill.
Oh Lord, help me to relax and push the pause button.
Today's guest, Dr. Natalie Greenberg from The Center for New Medicine, explained how important it is for my health to hit the pause button. She also mentioned that when life gets overwhelming, It's crucial to pause and take a deep breath before reacting to any situation.
Her words spoke to me.
I tend to be an "over-responder." I might get irritated with someone before I have all the information about a situation. I might wake up upset because of a restless night, and my negative thoughts kick in, telling me how tough the day will be.
How could my life be different if, instead of following my default of reacting, I took a minute, slowed down my breathing, pushed the pause button, gathered my thoughts, and then responded INSTEAD of reacting?
Nervous System: This would help my body stay in a parasympathetic state (the rest and digest state), so my body wouldn't produce as many stress hormones. This means I'd have lower levels of inflammation and, honestly, better relationships!
Immune System: Staying calm supports the immune system and allows your body to produce more "happy hormones," such as serotonin and melatonin, which means you fall asleep faster.
The Joy Factor: thinking the best about people means I look for joy everywhere I go. When I see someone wearing a cute outfit or making me a fabulous matcha latte, I PRAISE THEM!
The Bible says, to the best of my abilities, be at peace with people at all times.
Pro tip: The scripture above says that, to the best of my abilities, sometimes it's impossible to be at peace with some people, and you know what? That's okay, too. The older I get, the more I realize my gift to people is letting them be who they are.

We often see cancer as a purely physical issue, but within holistic healing, today’s guest believes that the healing is deeply spiritual.
I’m thrilled about today's podcast episode featuring the remarkable Dr. Katie Deming. As an oncologist, former healthcare leader, inventor, author, and podcast host, Dr. Deming has a wealth of knowledge to offer. My recent exploration led me to her captivating TEDx talk, leaving me in awe of her insights. Known as the "Conscious Oncologist," Dr. Deming has piqued my curiosity, and I'm eager to go into the intriguing aspects of her journey and expertise.

I prefer Simplicity. But of course, when I see a recipe or hear about a simple health tip, I often wonder if it will work.
That's why today's podcast impacted me. Dr. Stephen Hussey, author of Understanding the Heart, loves to focus on simple tips to improve health.
He had a heart attack at the age of 34 while he was writing his book about heart health. As you can imagine, that certainly got his attention!
We talked about the ways he's changed his life today after that heart attack.
What did we discuss? One is the impact of unnatural lighting on our health. Staying inside, under fluorescent lights, a lack of activity, and processed foods all significantly contribute to our health.
We also had a great discussion about the circadian rhythm. When you're sleeping, your body runs surveillance and gets rid of and cleans up all the damaged cells. It's almost impossible to be well if you're not sleeping well.
Give today's podcast a listen to hear Dr. Hussey's easy tips to improve your health without breaking the bank!

Want a peek at the top three questions I get asked every week?
What do you do differently after having cancer? How has your eating changed? How have you changed?I've changed dramatically since my cancer diagnosis in 2020.
Before my diagnosis, I thought I was "nailing" my health. I worked out hard, ate lots of salads, and monitored my weight.
Here's what I wasn't "nailing" rest, sleep, stress management, forgiveness, and community.
These are crazy concepts to hear from a certified nutritionist who'd been in the health field for over thirty years! Forgiveness? Community?
When I got my Health Science and Exercise Physiology degree and my two-year nutrition certification, I learned what foods to eat to avoid disease and what foods to eat to manage disease.
Life has taught me that my thoughts can be as important as what I eat and that forgiveness is a gift for you, not for the person who hurt you.
And that your community is one of the most essential parts of staying healthy and thriving!
In this episode, I talk about:
What I think contributed to my getting cancer. What I eat now vs. then. The new habits I incorporated and some old habits I had to the curb!I also discuss some of the products I use now and why I use them, and I've included as many discount codes as I could gather!Podcast episodes I refer to:

Sleeping! UGH, I am a work in progress on this one. A couple of things I'm doing now: I wear a pair of goofy-looking blue light blockers 2-3 hours before bed. WHY, you might be asking yourself? Because the light we see at night from our screens kills our melatonin production, making sleep much more challenging.
These glasses Eliminate 100% of blue and green light between 400-550 nm, boosting evening melatonin production and regulating your circadian rhythm. These clip onto my glasses so I can use them on my distance glasses for watching movies or my readers if I have to hop on my phone.

Could a simple change in diet hold the key to transforming pediatric cancer care?
Today, we have a truly special guest, Season Johnson, a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner dedicated to working with pediatric patients. I discovered Season on Instagram and was immediately drawn to her compelling story and expertise.
Season’s own son was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, and her family’s journey through this experience has shaped her mission to help others navigate the complexities of cancer treatment and nutrition.
In today’s episode, we dive into Season’s unique approach to nutritional therapy for children battling cancer. We’ll look at rising pediatric cancer rates and how environmental factors like food toxins and EMFs might play a role. Season also shares practical tips for parents, including the benefits of sunlight, outdoor play, and a balanced diet to create a healthier environment for their children.
Hit play and get inspired—because fighting cancer just got a whole lot smarter!
In this episode:Season shares her son’s diagnosis with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.Season talks about her initial resistance to traditional medicine and how she balanced it with alternative treatments to support her son’s health. Season opens up about the emotional rollercoaster her family experienced — from sleepless nights in the hospital to the constant worry about her son’s health. “It was a choice I had to make: am I going to let this define me, cross my arms, and sit back as a victim of our circumstances, or am I going to step up, realize I have a role to play, and not be passive?” - SeasonStudies show that environmental factors are a major contributor to cancer cases, including in kids, making up about 95-97% of cases. While genetics play a role in how we deal with toxins, the increased exposure to pollutants like electromagnetic fields from tech and various chemicals is a big concern.Simple steps that parents can take now to create an environment for their kids where cancer cannot survive in.How morning light affects our bodies’ natural healing rhythms.Tips to manage nutrition for picky eaters during cancer treatment. How activities like bouncing on a trampoline help with detoxification and waste removal in the body.Season explains that while everyone produces cancer cells daily, whether these cells develop into tumors depends on our immune system and genetic predispositions. The good news is that 99% of these genetic variations can be influenced by our nutrition and detox efforts.Season shares some key practices to ensure our detox pathways are functioning properly, including staying hydrated, regular bowel movements, and using a sauna.Key nutritional benefits of organ meats for overall health and cancer support.Creative ways to incorporate organ meat into your family’s diet, especially for kids. What does "chemo-protective" mean in the context of foods and their effects on the body during cancer treatment? How often should you replace the things you do to effectively reduce toxins and improve overall health? How chlorella and chlorophyll protect us against radiation damage and support detoxification. “God has given me this incredible ability, and it’s deeply rewarding. The pediatric cancer field may not be lucrative, but it offers the profound opportunity to give families hope. Having walked this path myself years ago, it is an honor to turn that experience into a source of hope and support for others.” - SeasonSeason highlights the vital role of community during cancer treatment.About Season JohnsonSeason Johnson is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Founder of The KICKcancER Movement, and a cancer mom who transitioned from having one child with cancer to supporting thousands worldwide. After her son’s cancer diagnosis at age two and enduring a 3.5-year battle with daily chemotherapy and numerous surgeries, she developed an unwavering mission to help others thrive through cancer using real food, supplementation, detoxification, and environmental adjustments.
She has received the Weston A. Price Foundation Activist Award and the Children’s Health Advocate Award from the Nutritional Therapy Association for her work with pediatric cancer. What are EDCs and why should you care about them?
Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are a group of compounds that, despite being unnoticeable, have the potential to disrupt the delicate balance of our endocrine system. These seemingly harmless substances are part of our daily lives, from the products we use to the food we consume. EDCs lurk in unexpected places, impacting hormonal functions and, consequently, our overall well-being.
I’ve invited environmental toxins and green living expert Deborah de Moulpied onto the show to give us the 411 on all things EDCs.
Stick around to learn where these toxic chemicals are hiding in our daily lives and how we can minimize our exposure.

I have to admit, I was a bit confused when I first heard today's topic—grounding. Sure, I walk on grass and dip my toes in lakes, but I didn’t quite grasp the full picture.
Luckily, our guest, Dr. Henry Ealy, is here to enlighten us. He’s a naturopathic physician with a background in engineering, making him the perfect guide to explore grounding’s deeper benefits.
Dr. Ealy explains how we spend most of our day insulated from Mother Earth, missing out on the benefits of connecting with nature by walking barefoot or swimming in a lake. One fascinating benefit he mentions is improved sleep through grounding. He also talks about something called Zeta potential, which involves red blood cells moving more freely when we're grounded. He even called grounding “nature’s Coumadin” due to its blood-thinning effects.
You really need to tune in to get the full scoop. I've been diving into the research and science he shared, and I must say, I'm hooked. I absolutely loved today's episode, and I think you will too.

After my breast cancer diagnosis, I became more mindful of what I consume after a 2016 study from the University of Houston revealed that alcohol can fuel estrogen, promoting breast cancer growth. According to breastcancer.org, just three drinks a week can increase breast cancer risk by 15%.
You can find Martinelli's Apple Cider everywhere. Enjoy your summer and sip on some delightful mocktails!

I don't eat five burgers a week (although that sounds dreamy), but I enjoy animal protein daily. Three things are of utmost importance to me:
QualityProfitable ranches and happy animalsSustainabilityAfter speaking with ButcherBox founder Mike Salguero, I know that BB checks all of these boxes. ButcherBox visits the farms and fisheries to ensure quality. They know the farmers and fishermen and pay them fairly. They contract with small farms and fisheries to ensure smaller harvests and, thus, sustainability.
It's no secret how I feel about ButcherBox, and I got to sit down with Mike, the founder.
I'm always interested to understand a person's WHY.
WHY did you start that business, or WHY do you feel that way about a topic?
His WHY made me a bit emotional. His wife was ill, and they were trying to find grass-fed beef for the recommended anti-inflammatory diet. They couldn't do it, so they bought half a cow! They couldn't eat it all, so they sold the meat to friends, and ButcherBox was born.
Mike is a visionary who genuinely wants to make high-quality protein available to everyone, no matter their budget.

I always love looking back on what I’ve learned and the first part of 2024 hasn’t disappointed. I’ve had some incredible guests on the show this year and I’ve taken the time to distill some powerful insights from our conversations. Today I want to re-share my top takeaways of the year so far.
First up, we have some incredible clips from Dr. Josh Axe, a world-renowned naturopath, leadership author, and speaker. Dr. Axe experienced a debilitating medical accident that left him unable to walk for a year, during which he wrote his book, “Think This, Not That.” The lessons he learned are truly golden, and I’ve picked my top four lessons to share with you, including the power of mindset.
Next, we’ll revisit our episode with Liz Curran from the Radical Remission Project. We explored the 10 healing factors common among individuals who achieve radical remissions from diseases like cancer. One fascinating topic was the concept of being “too good of a patient” and the importance of laughter in healing. Did you know kids laugh about 300 times a day, while adults only manage 8-12 laughs daily? It’s a reminder for all of us to embrace our inner child and find joy in everyday moments.
The last lesson I want to share came from Kris Carr, an Oprah Super Soul guest, and a 21-year cancer survivor. Kriss lives with 24 inoperable tumors and has learned to love her body, tumors and all. Her journey of self-love and resilience is profoundly moving, especially since I struggled with body acceptance after my own breast surgery.
Don’t miss these powerful lessons and heartwarming stories. Hit play now and get ready to be inspired!

Did you know that eating organs can be good for you?
PLEASE KEEP READING!
Trust me, I get it. When people mentioned eating organ meat, I had flashbacks to my childhood and my grandma making liver and onions.
Believe me when I say it wasn't a positive experience.
Humans have eaten organ meats since prehistoric times, and they're rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids – including some that aren't commonly found in plant foods.
Today's podcast guest is James Barry, celebrity chef to George Clooney and Barbra Streisand (to namedrop a bit). James knows the power of eating organ meats but he also understands the ICK FACTOR.
That's why he created a super yummy way to include organ meats in your daily diet by using salt! He created a savory salt (to me it tastes like a healthy version of Lowery's season salt), and I use it on eggs, salads, and popcorn.
Listen to today's podcast to get the inside scoop on WHY organ meats are so important to consume and DID James cook organ meats for George Clooney.
James Barry’s 16 + years in the culinary field started as a private chef cooking for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Mariska Hargitay, George Clooney, Gerard Butler, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack. Most recently, James launched his first functional food product, Pluck, an organ-based seasoning. It's the first of its kind and an amazingly easy and delicious way for people to get organ meats into their diet.
Follow James Barry on Instagram (@chefjamesbarry), and add more organ meat into your diet with Pluck!

I was SHOCKED to hear that when I buy frozen fish, it's frozen TWICE. It's usually frozen right after being caught, defrosted, processed, and then frozen again.
I buy a lot of frozen fish; sometimes, the taste and texture can be inconsistent. Now that I have a better understanding of the processing of the fish before it hits my plate, it makes me wonder about quality.
I called a friend who works at ButcherBox and asked her about the process with their salmon. She assured me that BB only freezes the fish ONCE! Which helps preserve the nutrients and taste. The big one for me is texture. When I eat fish, I want a firm texture, not rubbery!

Today, we're talking about a topic that might make you squirm in your seat—parasites and worms! These creepy crawlies can hitch into our bodies through contaminated water, food, and less-than-sanitary conditions and wreak havoc.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that when my guest Kim Rogers, also known as “The Worm Queen” of TikTok, reached out to me, I hesitated. Who wants to know about the creatures lurking inside us, right? But knowledge is power and if understanding more about parasites and worms could help me stay healthy, it’s time for an uncomfortable conversation.
We talked about the not-so-glamorous aspects of bodily functions—yes, that means we went into the topic of pooping quite a bit. But beyond the initial discomfort, Kim shares some invaluable insights into detox pathways and what she calls the three P's: peeing, perspiration, and, you guessed it, pooping.
So, buckle up, folks. Let’s learn all about these little buggers - and how to protect ourselves from them!

I learned much from today's podcast with mold expert Bridgit Danner.
I've never given much thought about mold and the impact it could have on chronic disease or even cancer!
When Bridgit explained that chemical warfare is often made from a mold, she got my attention!
If mold is strong enough to be used in a bomb, what kind of havoc can it create in my body?
Listen to today's episode to learn more about this fascinating topic.

The Ultimate Guide to Toxic Mold Recovery: Take Back Your Home, Health & LifeYour Complete Guide to Health Recovery from Toxic MoldAccording to Dr. Isaac Eliaz:
"You may not be aware of it, but mold is probably affecting your health. So even if it’s not on your mind, “how to detox your body from mold” should be something we all need to be asking.
Even if mold is making you sick, you might not know it’s the source of your symptoms. That’s because mold toxicity can act like many other conditions, so it often goes misdiagnosed and untreated. Exposure can cause many different symptoms, including:
FatigueCoughShortness of breathFeverHeadacheJoint painMemory problemsDizzinessSinus infectionsWheezingTrouble concentratingSensitivity to lightSkin rashDigestive problemsOne of the main reasons mold toxins can cause so many different symptoms is this: These toxins can suppress or damage your immune system. Not only can they bring on symptoms themselves, they can make you more vulnerable to other illnesses.
Surrounded by Mold
Mold exposure is shockingly common. It’s found in the air, damp or water-damaged buildings, even the food you’re eating. Foods that commonly contain mold include cereal grains, nuts, spices, coffee, bulk foods (like the kind you buy from bins to save money) and dairy products.
You come across mold inside and outside, and it can travel around with you. Mold spores can attach to things like:
ClothingShoesPetsReusable grocery bagsThat means it can come home with you from just about anywhere. And if it ends up somewhere even slightly damp, it will grow and multiply.
In nature, mold speeds up the break down (decomposition) of things like dead trees and fallen leaves. Some molds are used to make cheese or create antibiotics.
But many types of mold can be hazardous to your health. These molds produce mycotoxins, poisons that can cause severe health problems and a wide variety of symptoms.
The two most common harmful mycotoxins are aflatoxin and ochratoxin, and exposure to either (or both) of these can trigger substantial health issues — from chronic allergies to cancer.
What’s more, if your body can’t remove these toxins on its own, they can slip into long-term storage to cause lasting or recurring damage.
Mycotoxins Damage Your Health
Mycotoxins are sneaky. While mold itself can’t enter your bloodstream — though it can hang around and colonize in spots like your nostrils and lungs — mycotoxins can get into your bloodstream and circulate throughout your body.
These opportunistic toxins can hijack your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections. If your immune system is already compromised (such as people with autoimmune conditions or undergoing cancer treatment), mycotoxins take advantage. If you’re healthy, they can make you very sick.
Studies show that mycotoxins can:Cause lung inflammation that can make it harder to breatheDisrupt your gut health by reducing beneficial bacteria and encouraging pathogensTrigger chronic fatigue syndromeAffect brain function and cognitionCause liver damage, including cancerWorsen allergy and asthma symptomsUnfortunately, mold toxicity is frequently misdiagnosed. Because of its wide-ranging effects, it’s typically mistaken for other conditions including depression, multiple sclerosis, or autoimmune conditions. Plus, because mycotoxins are opportunistic, they’re often connected with debilitating diseases such as Lyme disease, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and fibromyalgia."

In today’s episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James.
As you listen to our discussion, it's essential to acknowledge the whirlwind that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. For many, including myself, the speed at which treatment unfolds can be both a blessing and a challenge. The urgency of medical intervention, coupled with the support of excellent health insurance and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 era, can lead to a swift entry into what is commonly referred to as the breast cancer industrial complex.
But what exactly does this term mean? It's a new concept that encompasses medical advancements, institutional processes, and societal expectations surrounding cancer treatment. While grateful for the prompt attention and care received, there's an underlying need to address the implications of this fast-paced medical industry.
For me, and perhaps for many others, navigating the breast cancer industrial complex has raised questions about agency, reflection, and informed decision-making. The speed at which decisions are made can sometimes overshadow the opportunity for thorough consideration, prayer, and seeking second opinions—elements crucial to holistic well-being.
Together with Dr. James, we'll explore the importance of empowerment in the face of medical urgency, the role of advocacy in navigating treatment pathways, and the significance of holistic approaches to cancer care.
