  • Welcome to High Street Tales. A Historic England podcast.
Starting in Autumn 2020, specially commissioned writers on seven high streets across England began work on High Street Tales: a new storytelling initiative by Historic England to uncover the hidden histories and celebrate the everyday magic of the high street. Working both online and offline where they could, they spoke with local people to uncover memories, reflections, personal histories and local legends on and around the high street. What emerged was a set of modern High Street Tales which explore the connection between history, memory and place and paint a vivid portrait of the high street.
High Street Tales is part of Historic England’s high street cultural programme; four years of nationwide cultural activity helping to make high streets more attractive, engaging and vibrant places for people to live, work and spend time. The programme is run by Historic England, in partnership with Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.

  • Ellie (32) and Paige (30) are sisters who were diagnosed late with autism and ADHD (AuDHD). However, the way it manifests in them doesn't look the same. With AuDHD only becoming an official diagnosis in 2013, the lack of research not only resulted in late diagnosis and mental health issues, but also left Ellie and Paige feeling alone and confused. This podcast is a space where Ellie and Paige share their experiences, in the hopes it will help others. It explores the vast manifestations of neurodivergence and emphasises how even sisters with the same condition can look completely different.

  • This podcast episode explores the concept of the multiverse, comparing and contrasting its presence in modern science and ancient Hindu mythology. The episode delves into the Hindu understanding of the cosmos, particularly its multilayered structure of "lokas" or realms, and how stories from the Mahabharata and Ramayana depict the interaction between these different realms. It further highlights examples from Hindu scriptures, like the story of Lord Krishna and King Muchukunda, to showcase how the idea of multiple realities is embedded in their narratives. The episode also touches upon the philosophical implications of the multiverse in the Advaita Vedanta school of thought, suggesting that the true nature of existence is an underlying oneness, beyond the illusion of individual realities. Finally, the episode concludes by emphasizing the significance of this ancient concept in fostering humility and a sense of interconnectedness in the modern world.
