In the near future, society is crippled with depression, obesity, lack of communication, broken social links…
Dr. Wantz, a very serious scientist, looking for a way to find what really makes people happy, made some discoveries. People enjoy their life much better when a limit is set outside their will. For instance, once a day at midnight. It has a tremendous positive effect on the population. There is a catch though. Each single day a life has to be really taken randomly so people really enjoy it each day. It has a huge positive impact on the population forcing it to live in the present. Many countries have started implementing that.
A grumpy detective is unhappy by the frenzy. He used to catch cold cases killers and now he is looking to the Hidden K, the person or team doing the killings, sensing he or she may over reach and kill without impunity. We follow him tracking Dr. Wantz. What he will discover is far beyond his usual killers.
The underlying topic of the book is the importance of enjoying life in the present, its consequences.
