**Correction in the podcast - Cold water fish is categorized as lowest acid producing food. As Cat was eliminating acid producing foods from her diet, for a period, she started from highest acid producing meats to lowest, resulting in fish being the last one she eliminated before being vegetarian."
I don’t think a lot of us think about things like what is the PH value of the food we are consuming, how alkaline or acidic is the next meal that we are going to consume? Well Not until its to a point that physical ailments starts to appear. We are always told to eat and drink healthy, but well how do we know where to start or with what to start? Does healthy Food means – organic food? And isn’t all Organic food always expensive? And How Does coffee play a role in something like this which is so health centric topic, does Coffee have attributes to affect our health too? What could be in common when we speak about coffee with a Dentist. ? What some of us might not know is that Drinking Coffee causes teeth stain, (Discoloration), along with that what other impact does coffee and other food & beverages have on our dental hygiene. What are things that we can do to prevent hampering the aesthetics and the health of our teeth and palate in general. How Bad breath resulting from Coffee, tea and other things can be prevented or taken care of.
Along with that some really weird questions like, does one dentist go to another dentist, or how often should we be brushing our teeth and when exactly is the right time to Brush our teeth, and some more interesting details related to Oral Health.

This latest episode is an amazing conversation with Raghunath from Aramse Coffee. We had thought of doing something together for a long time, and then after a loooong time, we recorded this episode. This episode got recorded sometime back and finally I was able to release it today, which happens to be Christmas. So this fits perfectly as a podcast you can listen to while on your holiday break. Trust me when I say this is a fun episode, busting a lot myths, talking about James Hoffman, the mighty Indian Filter coffee !, other brands too. Decolonising the flavor wheel was a topic we both got a little deep into, which was fun. It was a fun (laughter filled) episode automatically.
If you already know about Aramse Coffee, you might have seen their amazing videos on youtube (if not - stop reading this, go and watch that first and follow them there too), we talk about social media, and specifically the behind the scenes of the shoots, what it takes to get that perfect shop of espresso or a drip of coffee into the cup and so on. I believe they have one of the finest videos online, and its not just the beautiful video, but the way them explain things, which is nothing but pure awesomeness - if you see their video on the coffee prices, you would know what I mean
I initially thought the episode was a bit long, but upon listening to it a few times (over editing), I am just enjoying it and I feel that you all will enjoy it too.

The first Credit for this episode goes to the Naga entrepreneur Mr. Lichan Humtsoe of Été Coffee, we spoke over the phone and he did mention that he would love to have certain content in the podcast related to the horticulture side of Coffee Plantation and things on those end. I am so thankful that he made that request, I just wanted to get his questions answered by the expert/veteran Planter, while I was still living at a plantation.
So while I was working at Kerehaklu and working with Post Processing of Coffee with Pranoy. I also had the pleasure to spend some amazing time with Ajoy (Pranoy's Dad). It was always so amazing to hear him speak about coffee plants, the horticulture side of coffee it was like transcending to a different time zone and it was beyond awesomeness.

Meet @Divyajayashankar , founder and owner of Beachville coffee. Now This sounds great but wait a minute read the entire thing (or better listen to the entire podcast episode) and get to know about her. Beachville didn’t just start up just like that.
Her Coffee journey started in a lot of ways with filter coffee initially and she is a pakka Chennai kid, girl and a woman. She was in USA, where she got introduced to black coffee and espresso, it was her husband who was into #specialtyCoffee and got her into it. She was (and still is) very much of a lover of #southindianfiltercoffee. That is how she started her first Coffee company – ‘Madrush’ in New York. Where she initially sourced Indian Coffee (@leo) from Chennai and using @gemini filter maker. She set up stalls (pop ups) at Sunday & Monday Markets, she even collaborated with Paul Hine, who used to whip up some south Indian Delicacy and Divya used to make the 'kaapi'. She got a lil famous for the kind of coffee she made there and she set up a proper company supplying to various chains in and around Newyork including the @adiyaanandabhavan in Manhattan J
Later she came back to India, she is a management student and was a consultant before she got into Coffee – full time, purely out of passion. She started ‘Beachville’ to pursue her passion for coffee further, starting small, she took baby steps and then a lil bigger ones, at the age of 29-30 years, she had two babies to look after, one her new born child and the other, the roaster which she had recently acquired , managing all together, was not the easiest task but the way she mentions about that in the podcast is nothing but inspirational.
She is clear, crisp and quick. Coffee before Decentralisation in India, Coffee Diseases, remedies and more ...... Continuing our talk with Ajoy from Kerehaklu. Ajoy has a lot of knowledge that is backed by his years of experience in working at and managing his Estate. One of the most interesting points in this particular episode is that mot only do we speak about more on the horticulture of coffee, but we also talks about the shade management in a little detail, how does shade loping work and what does it do to the plants and what could be the outcome of it, in relation to pests, yield, growth, stress etc. but one of the most interesting part (to us at-least) was to know about the situation of coffee planters and technically the situation of “Coffee” before it got decentralised by the #coffeeboardofindia. Whether it’s managing the estate, (the story of they got to be at the estate and managing it). How come London changed the game? What’s exactly the coffee species called Excelsa ? How does one get to developing a good post processing technique for the coffee. Managing a different day job of managing a Tech company and lot more of such experiences and stories is what was really fascinating. Their main goal of producing and distributing Good coffee is nothing but beautiful, and so are analogies used in the podcast explaining a lot of logics. I always wanted to do something that had more than 1 season, and here I am happy doing it. This is the last episode of the 1st season, and as suggested by most of you (on the social media) we did a Q&A session. Got the questions from all of you as well, some really cool and some really intriguing ones too and also some controversial ones too. I enjoyed recording and editing it. I hope you have similar questions and would be happy to listen to the questions others have asked (i have negated the repeated questions ).
I am so happy to have come here 20 episodes ... its a lot of handwork getting more content made and get it across over #Podcast but its totally worth it, especially every time someone drops by and says, "thank you for that episode, it helped me". A Family residing in the city, move into a Coffee farm and started making some really good coffee.
Meet the family behind ĀnaiKādu Nisha , Kurian, Anaika & Bella. How their life came to a crossroad, that led them to the world of coffee, and eventually into #specialtycoffee.
New into this side of coffee, processing coffees for the first time, from being not sure enough to being nervous on how the community would react to the coffee, to actually selling all their specialty processed coffee (sooner than they expected). This is an incredible story of how a (relatively small) coffee farm holder churned some good coffee out. Also getting some really commendable #specialtyrobusta, which is what they primarily grow.
This podcast is extremely special and unique as it is one episode but there are two parts to the episode, the first half before they got into processing specialty coffee, whereas the other half is post finishing the season and selling all their coffees. I wanted to do an episode like this so that you all (and me) could hear to both parts of the story.
We talk about corporate life, farm life, how did they went about starting their journey into specialty Coffee, the capital needed, the challenges involved in doing specialty coffee for the first time, cost incurred, if there is any profit at all in doing coffee or specialty coffee.

I have had the pleasure of meeting a few women coffee producers, but meeting someone who runs the entire coffee farm and managing its work, and getting her on my podcast was the first for me. Meet Pranathi Shetty, she currently owns and runs "Kolli Berri" coffee farm by herself along with her mother-in-law.
I met her a year ago (virtually) for a prospective work that we planned to do, but sadly that couldn't happen, but I was pleased to meet her IRL for the first time too last year. I knew i wanted to get her on this podcast at some point, to get her take and share her story. She is a 'Bombay' girl studied business and worked in the banking industry for 11 years but now she owns and runs a 'huge' Coffee plantation and a gas station' in Chikmaglur, India. The story of this transformational journey itself is pretty awesome. But what is more amazing, is the story in the details, of how things were, are and hopefully will be in this sort of 'Man dominated' Coffee growers' world. Everything that has happened 'the good, the bad and the weirdly ugly', most of that is shared by Pranathi in this podcast episode.
For me this episode is nothing but pure inspiration, and the heart touching stories and experiences Pranathi shares is just pure bliss. Nothing is easy, but also nothing is impossible. This episode is exactly that, conveyed through the conversation.
Listen up this episode and see how it is to be a Single Woman, Running a Coffee plantation in the south of India, all by herself and the constant support she receives from her mother-in-law is nothing short of a motivational movie.
