  • Can I accept (and embrace) that suffering can be for my good and my transformation into Christ-likeness?

This conversation dives deep into the purpose and presence of suffering in our lives, particularly through a Christian lens. Darren Mulligan, the lead singer of We Are Messengers (@wearemessengers), shares an insightful perspective on how suffering is a gateway to abundant life, not something to be avoided or resented. His point is that while the Gospel promises life, that life comes through the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ—through suffering and sacrifice, not in spite of them.

Suzi and Cosmo unpack this by acknowledging that suffering isn't something that we can escape, but rather, it's something that shapes us, deepens our faith, and draws us closer to God. While suffering is hard and sometimes feels overwhelming, it has purpose and meaning when viewed through the lens of faith. Culturally, we have a tendency to avoid or medicate pain, which often only postpones the real healing that comes from facing our suffering and allowing God to work through it.

They conclude by offering prayer and inviting listeners who are struggling to reach out for support, highlighting the importance of community and spiritual connection during tough times. Their message is one of hope, reminding listeners that even in the hardest moments, God is present and at work.

Romans 8:17...Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

    N - What do I need

It’s more than just about feeling acknowledged; it’s about understanding and connecting with your partner on a deeper level. We take the time to apply her wisdom in our daily lives, helping us communicate clearly using assertive speaking and active listening.

  • What's more important to success: technique or attitude?

In this week's episode of the "I Feel Loved When..." Podcast, Cosmo and Suzi dive into a fascinating conversation that unpacks the importance of attitude over technique, inspired by a motivational reel from @arcstrive.

Listen in as we dissect a thought-provoking exchange between a coach and a young student, and uncover deep truths that apply to our everyday relationships—whether it's in marriage, friendships, or even our work life.

The coach’s answer to the student's question, "What's more important, technique or attitude?" serves as the heart of today's discussion as we reflect on how our mindset shapes the quality of our relationships. But before we can work on technique, we need to be fully committed to the relationship itself.

This episode challenges listeners to examine their own attitudes and consider how their beliefs influence their actions, especially when the going gets tough.

Drawing parallels to Scripture and personal experiences, we explore how a shared vision and a commitment to growth are essential for any relationship to thrive. They also introduce the concept of spiritual health as the foundation for a strong, Christ-centered partnership, reminding us that with the right mindset, any challenge can become an opportunity for growth.

Tune in for an insightful and uplifting conversation that will inspire you to strengthen your relationships through faith and intentionality.

  • Are your compliments surface-level flattery, or a call-out of a person's attributes and efforts?

In this episode, we're diving into the art of giving meaningful compliments, inspired by a powerful Instagram reel from Mel Robbins (@melrobbins).

We often toss around compliments like "You're so smart" or "You look great," but how much do these words really impact the person receiving them? In this episode, we explore how to move beyond surface-level flattery and into the realm of truly edifying and encouraging others in a way that reflects God's love. Whether it's highlighting a friend's loyalty, admiring their contagious laughter, or acknowledging their growth in a specific area, we want to encourage you to speak words that matter.

We also discuss the importance of recognizing the effort and intention behind someone's actions rather than just praising what comes naturally to them. Complimenting someone on a developed skill or a positive change they've made can be far more uplifting and motivating than a vague, general statement. It's about seeing the person, understanding their journey, and affirming the work God is doing in their lives.

Ultimately, this episode is about cultivating a heart that looks for the good in others and speaks it out, not just to make them feel good, but to encourage them to continue growing in their walk with Christ. When we give compliments that are thoughtful and specific, we’re not only building up our friends, but we're also participating in the bigger story that God is writing in their lives. So, tune in as we learn how to give compliments that inspire, uplift, and glorify God in the process.

  • Are you feeling invisible or unvalued in your relationships? Or perhaps, without realizing it, are you creating an environment where others feel unseen?

In this episode of the "I Feel Loved When..." @soulanchoring podcast, we reflect on a powerful lesson from a social experiment involving world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell (as shared by No One Knows What They’re Doing (@nooneknows.show) with Erin McGoff (@advicewitherin) interviewing Ryan Stygar (@attorneyryan)).

When Bell played in a busy Washington DC subway, almost no one noticed him, despite his extraordinary talent. It’s a stark reminder that even the most gifted among us can go unnoticed if we’re in the wrong environment. We explore how to discern when you’re in the wrong environment and what it means to create a space where love, value, and humility thrive.

From Psalm 139:13-14, we recall that "You (God) created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

We discuss the importance of properly valuing ourselves and others, as God values us. True humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less (C.S. Lewis), allowing space for God’s love to flow freely through you and into your relationships.

Tune in to discover how to build an environment where you and those around you are seen, valued, and loved as God intended. Let’s walk in the truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and extend that same truth to others. 🎧✨

  • Do you long for acceptance or love?

In this @soulanchoring podcast episode, we're diving into the true meaning of love and acceptance. We listen to an Instagram reel where Jimmy Rex (@mrjimmyrex) and Ed Mylett (@edmylett) contend that what we really want is love, not acceptance.

Do you want your friends to accept you just as you are, or do you want them to love you deeply enough to challenge you to grow? We'll explore the difference and why it's crucial to surround ourselves with people who love us but don't always accept our behavior.

Great leaders and friends challenge us to be better. If everyone around us is always accepting our actions without question, we never grow or expand. We'll also look at how God's love works in the same way. God loves us as we are, but He doesn't want us to stay the same. He calls us to grow, change, and become more like Him.

Let's learn how to love each other deeply, challenge each other wisely, and grow together in our walk with Christ. Tune in and let's embrace the journey of becoming like Christ, loved by God and challenged to grow!

Proverbs 18:24...One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

  • Do you embrace challenges or do you curse them?

In this week's podcast episode, we listen to a clip from Ben Stuart (@ben_stuart_) of Passion City DC (@passioncitydc) where he talks about introducing his kids to the movie Karate Kid and the mind blowing realization they had during the movie. He is a great storyteller and we found so much depth to his analogy!

In this compelling episode, we dive into the profound truth that Jesus tests us not to break us but to build us. In Romans 5:3-5, we read, "...we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

In short, enduring trials is essential for personal growth and spiritual maturity, and we can learn how to embrace challenges as opportunities to deepen our faith and fortify our character. We acknowledge that true satisfaction and resilience come from facing and overcoming adversity. We thank God for allowing us to experience pain because with the proper perspective, it prepares us for our God-given destiny, preventing us from wasting our lives in shallow pursuits.

Join us as we unpack the idea that real growth happens in the crucible of life's challenges, where we find strength, hope, and purpose. Whether your suffering is self-inflicted or a result of external circumstances, this episode will inspire you to seek God in the midst of it and emerge stronger and more faithful. Tune in to learn how to navigate life's trials with grace and discover the divine purpose behind your pain.

  • Do you see friends as disposable?

In this week's podcast episode, we listen to clips from a podcast with Simon Sinek (@simonsinek) on The Diary of a CEO Podcast (@thediaryofaceopodcast). Simon says that having good friends around you makes life worth living - it makes you more resilient to the struggles of life. We agree and discuss the nuances of being a good friend.

But sadly, we also found that two things are true:

We’re not good at making friendsOur culture tells us that family is stronger than blood and marriage is a covenant, but we often see friends as disposable

But the blood of Christ bonds us in a covenantal relationship.

How do we know how much to give of ourselves to our friends? From material things to time, energy, and emotion. We ask God for guidance and discernment! He wants us to lay down our lives for our friends, to serve them, as God calls.

John 15:13-15…Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do  what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

We seek God for what we should do AND we understand what they need (which we learn through IFLoWs).

  • People are like puzzles - we can't understand the whole person by knowing just one piece.

In this week's podcast episode, we hear Denzel Washington give a concise synopsis of what it means to have a dream versus to have a goal. We, of course, applied this to relationships!

If you want healthy, God-honoring relationships, you must put in the effort to see the whole person and that means you can't just dream about having great relationships, you have to plan for them. We all have dreams and goals within our relationships. IFLoWs (I Feel Loved When… Statements) are actionable things that can be done to help another feel loved.

When practiced with consistency and intentionality – over time – IFLoWs are our plans in action that reap the fruit of great relationships.

  • You can't do any of the awesome things we talk about on this podcast...

unless you have the Holy Spirit empowering you!

In this week's podcast episode, we listen to a recording of Corrie Ten Boom on @biblicalrestorationministries as she talks about a simple glove being empowered to do all kinds of things once there is a capable hand inside it.

ALL the things we talk about here – having an anchored soul, being able to express what makes you feel loved, forgiving others, handling conflict well, believing the best about someone else, etc. – all of it requires the Holy Spirit working within you!

The Holy Spirit in us gives us wisdom, insight, courage, the ability to speak to others about Him.

  • It’s ok to take a break in the midst of conflict.

HOWEVER, you must also come back together to repair, reconnect, and resolve the conflict to figure out how to move forward.

This week we're listening to Jimmy Knowles (@jimmy_on_relationships) talk about shutting down during conflict in this Instagram reel.

We had very different – basically opposite – styles of dealing with conflict that we had to sort through in order to resolve conflict in a healthy way. The goal of conflict is mutual understanding – because we want to enjoy spending time together.

Listen to this week’s episode as we talk through:

What we think it actually means to not let the sun go down on your anger Jumping into problem solving mode vs. allowing the other person to process their thoughts and feelings Feeling overwhelmed by the emotion of another person“Tell me what’s wrong and I’ll go fix it” vs. “You are saying I’m what’s wrong and can’t be fixed”Getting to the core of the emotional problem vs. the actionable problem to solve

Proverbs 15:1…A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

  • If you want to destroy your relationship, make assumptions. If you want to inject it with hope and joy, believe the best.

In this week's podcast episode, we listen to Dr. Morgan Cutlip's (@drmorgancutlip) strong warning against making assumptions in relationships. We encourage people to instead believe the best. We actually did a whole miniseries episode on this idea, which you can find here.

Dr. Cutlip suggests using the following questions and phrases to help when you feel assumption sneak in:

The story I've been telling myself about why you do _____ is _____. Is this accurate? When you say _____ I am thinking you mean _____. Is this what you mean? I don't want to assume. This is what I'm hearing you say: _____. Is this right?

  • We all know the adage: Forgive and forget. So the question is, have you truly forgiven if you don’t forget? And furthermore, is this what the Bible tells us to do? (Hint: it isn't!)

In this week’s (long!) podcast episode, we first listen to Nick Pollard (@thepeopledispleaser) as he shares that “Forgiveness is one of the most misused words in the English language.”  Then we unpack his concepts and talk about:

The importance of understanding why you are confessingInviting Jesus into the wounded places through confessionThe idea that sometimes the most loving thing to do is to confront sin in someone elsePaying attention to emotions without allowing them to dictate our actionsConfession and forgiveness being a process that you must do in relationship if you want to maintain the relationshipAnd much more!

If that sounds like a lot, it is! But it’s a good listen with loads of helpful nuggets.

1 John 1:9…If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

  • You've probably heard this quote:You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” We contend that for a believer, your identity should be found in Christ, not those five people.

In this week's podcast episode, we talk through a reel shared by Shadé Zahrai (@shadezahrai) who interprets this quote to mean that who you spend a lot of time with influences how you feel about yourself. She concludes that if they don't support you, you should ditch them.

We believe that instead of "finding a new inner circle" (as she puts it) you should find Jesus!

Listen to find out more about why this simple solution actually works.

Proverbs 13:20 ESV...Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

  • Do you treat relationships as transactional – using people for your own gain and self-satisfaction?

Are you eager to be in the relationship as long as it’s fun and easy and comfortable for you? In this episode, we hear briefly from Carmen Schober (@carmen_schober_writes) and then Nick Freitas (@nickjfreitas) takes the wheel and shares about living in loyal commitment to his wife. His words of commitment "no matter what" and “her and I against the world” flies in the face of the cheap artificiality of today’s dating scene.

“Nothing is more shallow than a life that is exclusively lived for oneself.” - Nick Freitas

  • Have you designed your life to avoid being with yourself?

That is, do you intentionally take time to just be alone with yourself? No external input, no distractions so you can uncover what it is that makes you feel loved, feel alive, feel purposeful? If so, what’s it like for you? If not, why not? In this episode, we hear from Julien Blanc (@julienhimself) how difficult this practice can be, and yet how significant and valuable it is. It allows you to process what bubbles to the surface and actually become the person you were created to be – separating the external noise from the internal realities and pursue transformation .

“Most people design their lives to forever avoid being with themselves.” - Julien Blanc
