Yesterday, we received news via Deadline about a One Tree Hill reboot coming to Netflix, with Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush and Danneel Ackles producing the series and reprising their roles from the OG. Of course, we had to record an emergency podcast to unpack this! We chat about our complicated feelings about this. Will it do the characters justice? What about Haley? How would it continue if some of the original cast were not to return? How are they navigating the fact that He Who Shall Not Be Named will get credit? Also, we talk about how this show could potentially center on Rachel Gatina, rather than Brooke and Peyton. Let us know your thoughts on social media!

Weâre ready to PAR-TAY at the Scott house! In our discussion of S4E14: Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, we unpack Danâs motives in getting close to Lucas and Karen, Nathanâs visit to Deb in rehab and our conflicting feelings about what he says to her, Leytonâs healthy and trusting relationship, and Peyton and Brookeâs slow reconciliation. Kaitlyn swoons over Leytonâs redo of the scene from season 1âŠbut they still get interrupted and she desperately wants them to finally have their moment! We also discuss how Haley bitch slaps Rachel (and Jeremy thinks itâs not as satisfying as it couldâve been earlier in the season!), the Shelly and Mouth sex scene, and THAT twist ending that almost feels like fan fiction.
And oh, btw weâre canceling Naleyâs unborn baby. K bye.

Content Warning: Many tears are shed during our discussion on this fan-favorite episode, S4E13: Pictures of You! We unpack all of the labels and even label ourselves as how we wouldâve been seen in high school. We dissect the heck out of all the different character pairings, including how fun it is to see Haley and Skills together, why Peyton doesnât get to share anything with depth, and why Bevin and Rachel are even included in this episode (although, we do love Bevinâs speech!). We also touch on our high school reunion, our friendship through the years, and the coincidental timing of Sophia Bush coming out as queer in real time and we discuss Brookeâs ICONIC picture!

ITâS TRICKYYYYY! In our episode on S4E12: Resolve, we discuss Nathanâs strip dance to raise money, how refreshing it is to see Leyton so happy, and Brookeâs new experiences with Chase, which are so different from any other guy sheâs been with before! We also unpack the Clean Teens crisis, the calculus test scandal and why the student council president (aka Brooke) is called into the meeting, Debâs mental health crisis, and the fact that Dan is the absolute worst. We also reflect on the beauty of long television show seasons that make it possible to get extra, âfillerâ content.

Join us as we enjoy some chicken noodle soup with extra noodle and discuss One Tree Hill S4E11: Everything in Its Right Place! We unpack the Clean Teens slut-shaming, Gigiâs breakup with Mouth (and wonder about the writing behind her character), Peytonâs fear of being left again, and Nathanâs big confession to Haley and the nuances of this storyline. We also share our frustration with Debâs portrayal and her lack of character development and of course swoon over the Leyton scene at the very end!

Itâs an alternate reality in One Tree Hill S4E10: Songs to Love and Die By and we have very different opinions about this episode! Kaitlyn likes the episodeâs structure and overall message, but Jeremy questions all the plot holes and whether another character would have worked better in Lucasâ role. Are you Team Kaitlyn or Team Jeremy?! We also discuss the heck out of Craig Shefferâs return (yay!), Max the record store guy (ugh!), and Brooke and Peytonâs heartbreaking moment under the bridge.

Folks, weâve FINALLY made it to S4E9: Some You Give Away, aka the State Championship episode! We discuss Lucasâ reaction to Peytonâs confession and the extra line that was added to the scene, Brooke actually failing calculus instead of Rachel, all the campy cheerleader scenes, and our two different views about Karen taking Deb to rehab. And of course we unpack the heck out of the Ravensâ win and Lucas making the final shot, Lucas and Peytonâs epic confetti kiss, and ALL of the action in the coda!

We may be a little unhinged in this episode on S4E8: Nothing Left to Say but Goodbye, but there is so much to unpack! We discuss if calculus is really a requirement in high school, our conflicted feelings about Dan and Karen finally making amends after all these years, and the growing divide between Brooke and Peyton, including the directing choices used with their characters in this episode. Kaitlyn shares that sheâs officially over the love triangle between Lucas, Brooke, and Peyton, BUT Brooke wanting a second chance with Lucas is actually a realistic situation after a break up. Jeremy points out that Peyton has changed in how she deals with adversity. And finally, GIVE BARRY CORBIN MORE WORK! Whiteyâs banquet speech gave us ALL the feels.

Join us for a rather loopy episode of Always and Forever (we apologize!) where we discuss ALL the icky storylines in S4E7: All These Things That Iâve Done! We continue our conversations that weâve had all season so farâŠPeyton is traumatized and desperately needs therapy or support from her MIA dad, loan sharks should not take advantage of teenagers, and the fact that Mr. Chavez is a predator, but the show refuses to address it. On a lighter note, we discuss CariDee Englishâs guest role on OTH after winning a challenge on Americaâs Next Top Model, Debâs brush with the law (funny, but also icky), the 2000s fashion trend of layering shirts, and Haleyâs babysitting adventures.

We are coming in hot with the hot takes in our discussion of S4E6: Where Did You Sleep Last Night? First, we wonder where the heck all of Peytonâs friends are after the traumatic event in the previous episode and why therapy isnât a critical aspect of this storyline (yes, we are a broken record!). We call out the real Derek for needing to have more empathy for Peyton, but appreciate the twist at the end with Derek secretly watching out for her. We also unpack the cringiness of the Brooke and Mr. Chavez storyline, wonder how Haley and Nathan actually exist on just one cafe job, and seriously question if people care THAT much about *high school* basketball that they actually bet on it?! And finally, Kaitlyn calls out Karen (gasp!) for her crappy advice to Haley that lacks any practical tips and furthers the anti-choice narrative already present in this season.

Friends, buckle your seatbelts and get ready for a One Tree Hill horror show because we are discussing S4E5: I Love You But Iâve Chosen Darkness! We unpack the Psycho Derek storyline and how effective of a horror show it still is, the real Derek surprise, and Jeremy considers if the episode would have been even stronger if the WHOLE episode had horror themes, similar to what Dawsonâs Creek did. Kaitlyn shares her hot take that itâs unfair that Haley tells Nathan sheâs pregnant at the same time he tells her that he got a scholarship from Duke. We both wonder why the heck Haley would then go to Dan to discuss the pregnancy and Duke news?! And we also discuss Rachelâs classy response to Nathan when he tells her that Haley is preggos (YAAS girl!), the dying art of email (lol), and the Nick teacher surprise (ew). And when you're done, find out where this episode ranks in our most recent Spoiler Central episode, where we discuss the Top âHorror Movieâ Episodes of One Tree Hill!

Itâs in the water, baby! Weâre discussing One Tree Hill S4E4, âCanât Stop This Thing We Startedâ aka the one where we learn that we have been gaslit into thinking Brooke (Sophia Bush) was pregnant when it was actually Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz)! Itâs also when we get further confirmation that Derek (Matt Barr) has far from brotherly love for Peyton (Hilarie Burton Morgan); get introduced to Shelley (Elisabeth Harnois), the Clean Teens and some problematic anti-choice narratives; and DebRoe (Barbara Alyn Woods/Moira Kelly) continues to be on the outs. Also, Rachel (Danneel Ackles) poses for Maxim and weâre both feeling very bisexual about it (Donât worry, we do unpack some of the problematic aspects from behind the scenes as well).
We also discuss:
The episodeâs namesake, âCanât Stop This Thing We Startedâ by Bryan Adams.Portrayals of addictionWhether the âpregnancy twistâ works. Is Dan (Paul Johansson) complicated or just a terrible person?Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) rejoining the Ravens.Alternate portrayals of abortions and miscarriages in media (Jeremy gives shoutouts to Jane the Virgin, The Bold Type, and 90210!)Lucasâ growing suspicions of DerekBe sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! Big news but keep it on the BLT! We are discussing the 69th episode of One Tree Hill! In S4E3, âGood News for People Who Love Bad News.â Everyone is really mean and annoying in this episode, especially Brooke (Sophia Bush) and Mouth (Lee Norris). As Peyton (Hilarie Burton Morgan) connects with her half brother (Matt Barr), Rachel (Danneel Ackles) reveals that she knows who is pregnant! Meanwhile, Skills (Antwon Tanner) is doing incredibly well on The Ravens despite Whitey (Barry Corbin) keeping him down!
We also discuss:
The episodeâs namesake, the album âGood News for People Who Love Bad Newsâ by Modest Mouse. The pacing being off during the beginning of this season. Is there bad blood between Haley and Peyton?A callback to the end of summer beach party, what what!?Whether Brooke ever fought for Lucas.Racism and Whiteyâs sudden lack of knowledge about white supremacy. Is Skills replacing Tim?Skills being the voice of reason while Antwon Tanner gets his coins for being a series regular.Weird deleted scenes. How Dan needs to leave Karen alone.Rachel and Nathan bonding unnecessarily and â again â how this story couldâve been much better. We promise you there are episodes we like this season!Be sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! Cooper (Michael Trucco) is alive and wellâŠbut your podcast hosts are not during their discussion of One Tree Hill S4E2, âThings I Forgot at Birth.â Listeners, we are not loving this season so far but we promise our discussion is great! As Brooke (Sophia Bush) celebrates her 18th birthday, Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) tries to win her back. Meanwhile, Dan (Paul Johansson) is rattled with guilt and Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) is back on drugs again. Also, why does Karen (Moira Kelly) still have a crib after 17 years and what is going on with Rachelâs (Danneel Ackles) attraction to Nathan (James Lafferty)? At least Skills (Antwon Tanner) is getting more screen time.
Our totally deep analysis of the episodeâs namesake âThings I Forgot at Birth,â the album by The Absentee. The fact that this is Cooperâs final episode of the series!Rachelâs Fatal Attraction-type deal with Nathan and how it wouldâve been much more interesting if this was a hero worship syndrome story. The unnecessary supernatural elements. The lack of nuance in Debâs addiction storyline (And how other shows did storylines like this betterâŠand worse).Peyton opening up to othersâŠbut whatâs up with Derek?Lucas fulfilling the Keith role for Skills. The math not mathing for Brookeâs birthday. Our best birthdays.Be sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! Tree Hill is just a place somewhere in the world ⊠maybe itâs a lot like your world. Maybe itâs nothing like it but if you look closer you might see someone like you or someone like Haley James Scott (Bethany Joy Lenz). If youâre married, a senior in high school and not sure if your husband is still alive, then Iâd say your world is a lot like Haleyâs. THIS IS RELATABLE! OK! Weâre back with One Tree Hill S4E1: The Same Deep Water As You! In this episode, someone is pregnant; lives hang in the balance; Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) is back on drugs; Nathan (James Lafferty) is having some serious PTSD that weâre sure the show will deal with responsibly; Brooke (Sophia Bush) breaks up with Lucas (Chad Michael Murray); Dan (Paul Johannson) is still feeling guilt; Peyton (Hilarie Burton Morgan) has a mysterious half brother; and Rachel (Danneel Ackles) and Skills (Antwon Tanner) are series regulars! Also, this all happens in one day and none of the characters seem a little tired. During our discussion, we talk about:
Jeremyâs hyperfixation on the characters being soooo tan, despite the episode taking place the same day as the third season finaleHow the show is on a new network now (âHey, remember that time my birth mother came to town and her death traumatized me?â)Whether Lucas is a good writerJoyâs acting during the opening sceneACAB (trust us, it comes up)Brookeâs ability to move once again with zero plans on where to stayOur evolving thoughts on Brucasâ breakupWhether Skills could actually join the basketball team and get a scholarship this late in the school yearDeb and Danâs characterization being inconsistent with last season, and how frustrated we are with Debâs new directionBe sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts! On Sept. 23, 2003, One Tree Hill aired its pilot episode on The WB and we were introduced to rival half brothers Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) as they compete for a spot on the Tree Hill High basketball team and for the affections of Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton Morgan). We wanted to celebrate the occasion by returning back to the beginning. In this audio commentary, we are rewatching season one, episode one along with YOU, the listener. While listening to our podcast, make sure you have the One Tree Hill pilot episode queued up on your device. Listen to us as we count down and hit the âplayâ button to watch the episode together. We will then reminisce over times when OTH was trying to be 8 Mile, Moira Kelly was hiding her pregnancy, Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) was written as a manic pixie dream girl, and the entire cast was BABIES! Plus, we lament the pilotâs lack of Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and Gavin DeGraw and get emotional over the sight of Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer) and Jimmy Edwards (Colin Fickes). Itâs hard to believe we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of One Tree Hill! Weâre so grateful this show inspired nearly two decades of conversations between us both on and off mic. And weâre even more grateful for the listeners who have stuck with us. Whether you have started listening back when this was our pandemic project in mid 2020 or if this is your first episode, THANK YOU! We couldnât have done it without you!

Take us away because weâre celebrating the 20th anniversary of Freaky Friday (2003), the iconic Disney flick starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies and are forced to live in each otherâs shoes. Throughout their day, they have their run-ins with school bullies, interesting therapy clientele, and love interests while navigating talk show appearances, wedding rehearsal dinners and band auditions. Buckle in for this episode because it starts off with Kaitlyn and Jeremy swapping bodies, themselves! Plus, since weâre talking about a Disney movie, Jeremy tries not to use any naughty words. The results are interesting.
During our discussion of Freaky Friday (2003), we talk about:
Comparisons to the other versions of Freaky Friday, including the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, 1976 original film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the 1995 made-for-TV film starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, the 2016 stage musical starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton, and the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. How the âbody-swap genreâ works better in TV and film vs. books, plus callbacks to memorable body-swap stories on Charmed and (of course) Buffy the Vampire Slayer.Chad Michael Murray rocking long hair.Is it ethical for Jake to date Anna? Is Jake even a student??Problematic depictions about mental health and the use of the word âcrazyâ in an ableist context.Racist Asian stereotypes behind Pei Pei (Rosalind Chao), Pei Peiâs mom (Lucille Soong), and the staff of the House of Chang restaurant.Surprise! The Pink Slit song, âTake Me Away,â performed by Christina Vidal is actually a cover of a song by the Australian alternative punk rock group, Lash.Justice for Christina Vidalâs one-season wonder Nickelodeon television show, Taina! Our personal experiences with âearthquakesâ (note the giant air quotes!).More talk about how Gen Z doesnât use flat sheets, for some reason. How the Stacey (Julie Gonzalo) character doesnât really receive her comeuppance...except she does in a deleted scene that we didnât know about until after we finished recording.Kaitlyn getting very offended seeing a teacher do a crossword puzzle in the teacherâs lounge.Jamie Lee Curtis being gender goals. This movieâs connection to the original Freaky Friday film from 1976.The Bowling for Soup cover of â...Baby One More Time,â which triggers lots of Britney Spears talk. That time Chad Michael Murray made out with Jamie Lee Curtis (Quick fact check: Jeremy incorrectly stated that the interview was with Entertainment Tonight. It was actually Busy Tonight!)Whether this movie really needed Chad Michael Murrayâs character.A potential Freaky Friday 2?You can listen to the full episode by subscribing at the $5 level over at patreon.com/alwaysothpod.

We're excited to announce our first official book club, where we will be chatting about Hilarie Burton Morgan's memoir, "The Rural Diaries"! In our Discord server, we will have a dedicated channel where we can share our thoughts as we read (or re-read) and it will culminate in a video chat on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 7pm EST/4pm PST/ 6pm CST/2pm UK (which means, we can say "We'll be seeing ya" and mean it literally this time!). This club, which is available exclusively to our $5 patrons, will be our first book club as a podcast (and the first book club Jeremy has EVER been in) and we are so excited to talk about all of the Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm with you! We'll be seeing ya (AND you'll be seeing us)!

Weâre here, folks. Itâs the end of the season that got Kaitlyn hooked on One Tree Hill and the end of the season that both of your hosts call their favorite season of the entire series. But our journey through this amazing teen drama is just beginning because S3E22, The Show Must Go On, leaves us with so many cliffhangers as Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Lenz) head to the altar! Will things ever be the same between Brooke (Sophia Bush), Peyton (Hilarie Burton Morgan) and Lucas (Chad Michael Murray)? Who wrote âmurdererâ on Danâs (Paul Johansson) wall? Will Karen (Moira Kelly), who is now pregnant with Keithâs child, ever learn the truth about Dan? Who is pregnant? Will Rachel (Danneel Ackles) and Cooper (Michael Trucco) survive from their limo dropping into the water? Will Nathan? Will Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods) ever stop being so freaking iconic?? Just kidding. We know Deb will always be iconic. So we can rest easy knowing that she will continue being fabulous after confessing to attempted murder.
The episode titleâs connection to its namesake, Queenâs âThe Show Must Go On,â including how it chronicles Freddie Mercuryâs efforts to continue performing as he was dying.
