  • The KZN South Coast area has been the destination of choice for rock and surf this past week as it seemed to have been the hotspot for anglers with the rest of the province reporting a mixed bag of results without any fireworks. While offshore fishing has been thriving with both pelagic and bottom species the freshwater action has been relatively quiet apart from Carp coming to net at Albert Falls. With the heavy rain this past week anglers along the coastline are rigged for the predicated Kob action and to take advantage of the past few days missed opportunities.

  • It’s been a week of personal bests, heart racing moments, cheers and high fives throughout every facet of angling in KZN. Fisherman from salt and freshwater took advantage of the favorable weather condition when the opportunity presented itself and they were rewarded with catches such as Garrick, Tuna, Brusher and Bream. ‘Kobtober’ continues to live up to its name but this week on all types of Salmon species delivering bent rods from the surf and offshore. The freshwater anglers had also been out in full force as they had netted Carp, Bass, Trout, Scalies and even Barbel on flyfishing.   • Despite recent cold, overcast, and rainy weather, the anglers of KZN have produced significant catches ranging from Garrick outside Durban to huge Grunter in the Durban harbour; Bronze Bream going wild down the KZN South Coast and Snoek not leaving a lure alone on the North Coast.
    The freshwater scene had also come in with bragging rights as catches of Bass have reached up to 5kgs and there’s non-stop river action with Scalies.

    The dams and rivers are fishing well. The bass are still the pick of the crop (despite them playing a bit of hide and seek), but the trout are making their presence felt and the carp are keeping their anglers happy.
