This episode is one we have wanted to do for some time and I’m so glad it has been made possible. This rider embodies a little bit of the spirit we’re trying to hunt out at Any Given Sunday, seeking those individuals who don’t do things by halves, who are a little bit (or a lot) different to what the majority would consider the norm… We have on a veritable legend of the ultra-cycling and Audax scene, Mr Steven Abraham.
Steve first came to my attention during his first attempt at the One Year Time Trial world record. On January 1st 2015, he commenced an attempt to beat Tommy Godwin's record set in 1939. To beat the record, he had to cycle more than 75,065 miles in 365 days. That is an average of over 205 miles a day, every day, for a year. On this episode, we talk about the record attempt in detail, along with a few other bits and bobs such as:
How Steve got into cycling such massive distances along with tips on how you can build up to this kind of riding yourself.
His gear choices when it comes to completing these rides, including some interesting views on riding tubeless tyres.
How Steven’s diet changed hugely over the course of his record attempts and the approach he now favours when it comes to fuelling
and – the number one thing Steve recommends when completing big big trips on the bike.
Along with much more. Enjoy!

Hello boys and girls, we’re back - I hope you missed us. This week, we have a real treat for you and it is a first time for Any Given Sunday as we welcome not only an MBE but a Paralympian with multiple medals including a Gold from Rio in 2016. Her name is Claire Cashmore and in this chat we talk:
What’s still driving Claire after multiple Paralympic games, lots of medals and a daunting shift into a different sport.
The difficulties she has faced in transitioning from swimming to triathlon.
How Claire approaches training and riding with only one full arm
Along with much more. Claire’s story is truly inspirational and I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as I did recording it.

For this week, we have a chat with Mr Will Girling. Will is a Performance Nutritionist who has worked with a variety of world-class athletes and in this episode we look to debunk a few popular myths that linger in the world of cycling. You can find more about Will at www.willgirling.com and you can catch him on Instagram @willgirling
In this chat:
We learn about Will’s background and how he came into the sport, including detail on an absolutely horrendous injury that he suffered in a crash last year.
We discuss the age old classic in cycling circles: the fasted ride, including an exploration of how Froome managed his weight on the way to winning last year’s Giro d’Italia.
Vegans and vegetarians of the world: what we need to be careful of as riders if pursuing these diets.
The supplements and vitamins that are important for endurance athletes including an interesting one that you may not have heard of in the context of cycling…
The power of nitrates for cyclists and how you can get ‘em inside you.
How we can all embrace the power of placebo and finally – Will’s one super cheap, super undervalued super food that you need to start getting more of.
Enjoy!

Welcome to our (slightly delayed) latest episode, a cross-continental Anglo-Australian mashup. Within today’s episode with Shane Miller we cover:
- How Shane came into the world of cycling tech, fusing his work in IT with his passion for riding and time-trialing.
- We go deep on the current state of play with turbo trainers in 2019 – what makes a good one, what makes a bad one as well as a sneak peek into what this might look like in the not-too-distant future…
- An interesting insight into how Wahoo came onto the scene.
- How Lama was racing on the Zwift Beta before Zwift racing was even a thing and why Zwift racing is so uniquely different to the real world experience of racing bikes.
- We talk about Strava and where perhaps they have been missing a trick in the past couple of years.
- Shane gives his view on the new SRAM AXS and the long-awaited but now confirmed SRAM Force eTap.
- Where the GP Lama alias comes from (hint: if you don’t know it, you’ll not guess it…)
- Lastly – Shane’s reasons for why you should both like and subscribe to this very podcast!

This week we have our first guest from overseas, Rony Kuba.
Rony is someone who by his own admission is ‘not interested’ in the emotional side of the sport, both when it comes to his choice of gear and his approach in training. Across this chat, we covered off the following:
How Rony came into the world of cycling and the interesting path he took from one two-wheeled sport to another.
His opinion on the new range of aero bikes currently on the market and why he currently uses SRAM systems as opposed to Shimano.
The future of drivetrains – are we heading for 15 speed?
Why we should all go out and buy a rice cooker for our workshops and wax our chains with a product like Molten Speed Wax, staying away from conventional chain lubricants.
Rony’s view on the new aluminium bikes currently on the market such as the CAAD, Allez Sprint and why they are viable alternatives to lower-end carbon road bikes.
Why you might be wasting all or some of your time with your current training regimen.
And finally, Rony’s number one method for improving performance that is staring us all in the face…
You can find Rony on his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/794RK and on Instagram, @ronykuba

This week's guest is Katie Butler, AKA Katie Kookaburra.
In this wide-ranging chat we talk about: How Katie came into cycling through a certain well-known Australian Vegan (carb the f**k up ladies and gents). How she fared on a massively impressive weight-loss journey that combined cycling with a high-carb vegan lifestyle. Our views on Audax and what makes it such fun, including an interesting tip on ride-nutrition from Mr Steven Abraham, a TOP TIP for an alternative to Cliff Bars, how to build up to and smash rides of 200kms and beyond. And more!

Any Given Sunday is a podcast about bikes. In this first episode we talk to The Cycling Podcast's Richard Moore. We look back at the year that was 2018 - what was good, what was bad and what was ugly. We also look forward to 2019 and discuss the current situation over at Team Sky.
You can find Richard on Twitter at https://twitter.com/richardmoore73 and the excellent The Cycling Podcast at all good podcast outlets, also at https://www.thecyclingpodcast.com/
CORRECTION to my intro: Richard of course competed for Scotland and not Great Britain at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the latter being technically impossible.
