The conversation explores the concept of progress as the only goal and how it applies to athletes, specifically in the context of basketball. I ask him how hoopers can manage the ebbs and flows of games, staying grounded in the middle of games, and the role of visualization, meditation, and self talk in enhancing performance. I get the details of how meditation in helping athletes achieve a flow state and the importance of progressive overload in meditation practice. The conversation emphasizes the need for athletes to embrace both success and failure as learning opportunities and to find ways to reset and refocus during games.

I address 10 common misconceptions and misunderstandings about basketball training and things related to trainers. Things like that trainers are not miracle workers and that long-term success takes time. Consistency in training is crucial for development, and understanding the cost and quality of trainers. This is to help build understanding for skills trainers, performance/strength and conditioning coaches and those that do both like me.

Ego should be seen as a friend rather than something to be demonized. It's important to have a high level of self-esteem and confidence in order to excel in any field, including basketball. However, it is crucial to balance ego with humility and the recognition that there is always room for growth. Ego should fuel performance and provide confidence, but it should not become egotistical and overpowering. The key is to maintain a friendship with ego and constantly strive to improve.
