Welcome to Episode 2.6 of Beyond Deconstructing. I’m T Jamaica Pogue, affectionately known as Deconstructing Neuro, and I’m on a journey to help reframe how we understand and treat neurodivergence - in particular autism.
This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to a captivating artist whose work transcends boundaries and preconceptions. Desiree, known in the art world as Desi THE Artist, is not just a creator of lifestyle and conceptual portraits; she is a transformative force, reshaping the way we perceive art, identity, and autism.
As an artist, Desi THE Artist uses her medium to tell stories that resonate deep within the human experience. But her journey is more than just brushstrokes on canvas; it's a profound exploration of identity. She proudly identifies as queer and is a late-diagnosed autistic individual, a combination that adds a unique layer to her artistry.
What sets Desi apart is her unwavering commitment to challenge the misconceptions surrounding autism, particularly within the BIPOC and AFAB communities. Her platform serves as a beacon of awareness, shining a light on the intersectionality of autism, queerness, and race. Through her work, she dismantles stereotypes and fosters a more inclusive and understanding world.

Welcome to Episode 2.5 of Beyond Deconstructing. I’m T Jamaica Pogue, affectionately known as Deconstructing Neuro, and I’m on a journey to help reframe how we understand and treat neurodivergence - in particular autism.
In Part 1 of a special Double Episode of Beyond Deconstructing Neurodivergence, I have the privilege of introducing you to a voice of wisdom, healing, and profound self-acceptance. Praise Ara is not just an advocate for self-care, trauma healing, and wellness; she's a beacon of light in the world of neurodivergent perspectives.
In a world often obsessed with self-improvement and the notion of "fixing" ourselves, Praise Ara's message is a refreshing and essential reminder: You are not a self-improvement project; you are not a broken thing in need of fixing. You are enough as you are. Her words resonate deeply, reminding us all of the intrinsic worth we carry within ourselves.
What sets Praise Ara apart is not just her message but her unique perspective and concise approach to deconstructing shared experiences within the autistic community. Her insights have a profound impact, challenging us to see the world through a different lens and to embrace our neurodivergent identities without reservation.

In Part 2 of this special Double Episode of Beyond Deconstructing Neurodivergence we welcome back a returning guest, Jesenia aka Neurospicy Networking. We had a candid and informative conversation about the importance of having emotionally regulated conversations as we endeavor to share our advocacy with others. With the current state of the world, it is easy to understand how and why so many people are feeling the fatigue of having to face the truth of the horrors that have been ignored for far too long.
Jesenia is a dedicated community facilitator and builder, specializing in serving nonprofits and community-focused organizations. At the heart of her work is a deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections, igniting engagement, and driving positive change.

Today, I am thrilled to introduce you to an exceptional trailblazer who is helping to reshape the narrative around autism and advocating for authentic representation within the media. Rachel Lowenstein, the Global Head of Inclusive Innovation at Mindshare, has made it her mission to amplify the voices of autistic creators and provide them with the platform they deserve.
Rachel's journey begins with a deep and personal understanding of the misconceptions that surround autism. Diagnosed at the age of 30, she has had firsthand experience with the frustrating and often ignorant comments that so many autistic individuals encounter daily.
Recognizing the urgent need for change, Rachel embarked on a transformative endeavor. In collaboration with Getty Images and Hiki, she spearheaded the #AutisticOutLoud self-portraiture project, unveiled at Cannes Lions 2023.
I am honored to have Rachel on "Beyond Deconstructing Neurodivergence." Together, we'll delve into the power of self-representation, the transformation of the media's portrayal of autism, and the pressing need for authentic voices in advocacy.

Hailing from the Appalachian region, today's guest Tatum - also known as Pot8um - is not just an artist; she's a force of nature. As an autistic individual and AuDHD advocate, she's been carving her own path, unearthing the beauty in her neurodiversity while fiercely advocating for others like her. But Tatum's activism doesn't stop at the neurodiversity door; she's also a staunch anti-capitalist activist, challenging the structures that often marginalize those who are different. Her journey is a testament to the power of self-education and self-expression. As an autodidact, she's charted her own course, gaining knowledge and insights that have made her a formidable voice in the disability rights movement. And when she speaks, she doesn't just speak for herself; she represents a vibrant community, proudly identifying with the #ActuallyAutistic banner.I am honored to have Tatum on the show, sharing her experiences, insights, and unapologetic perspectives on disability rights, neurodiversity, and the fight against oppressive systems. This episode promises to challenge our preconceptions, ignite our passions, and remind us all that every voice, especially those often marginalized, deserves to be heard.Let's dive into this enlightening conversation with the indomitable Tatum, and explore the world of activism, artistry, and advocacy from a perspective that's as unique as it is powerful.Check out Pot8um's work and social media at the links below:MERCH: www.pot8um.comTIKTOK: @pot8umTWITTER: @pot8umTWITCH: https://twitch.tv/pot8umYOUTUBE: https://youtube.com/@pot8umWriting on Medium: https://pot8um.medium.comLINKTREE: https://beacons.ai/pot8umI can be found @deconstructing.neuro as well as @tjamaicapogue on all socials. * Deconstructing Neurodivergence is a series that aims to dismantle the harmful stereotypes and assumptions about neurodivergent people - in particular autistic and ADHDers - and the many negative effects that hinder us from receiving a proper diagnosis and adequate accommodations to live a life where we can thrive instead of fighting to survive. *

In this episode I had the pleasure of chatting with the effervescent Christele aka Plomcake. We discuss the transformative nature of becoming your truest self that often accompanies the process of unmasking after being diagnosed as autistic later in life. Her perspective is informed by being a Black woman, the eldest daughter in an immigrant family, and a highly masking person.

We dive into how intersectionality plays a role in how often women of color are not seen or represented in the conversation about autism. We also explain how the colonial mindset and all of it's children (the ISMs - racism, sexism, capitalism, ableism, etc) impact all of us, but especially the most marginalized among us. Welcome to Episode 1.13 of Beyond Deconstructing. I’m T Jamaica Pogue, affectionately known as Deconstructing Neuro, and I’m on a journey to help reframe how we understand and treat neurodivergence - in particular autism.TW: Depression / SuicideIn this episode I welcome back Stephen Brodeur (Episode 1.10) and have a very candid conversation about the struggles of living in a society that is designed to disadvantage us all, but doubles down on those with marginalized identities. It is just as important to highlight the ways we struggle as we do with our "autistic superpowers" because not showing both sides of the experience continues to harm us with misrepresentation. As empowering as it is to stand firm in your identity and celebrate the ways your differences benefit you, we must also be honest about they ways they hinder us. If we want to be able to reach people and edify them in their experiences, we have to show all sides of the equation.Check out Episode 1.10 to learn more about Stephen and his journey with discovering his neurodivergence and unmasking as a late diagnosed autistic here - https://youtu.be/fLTE-EMHp_MI can be found @deconstructing.neuro on TikTok and Instagram, @decon_neuro on Twitter as well as @tjamaicapogue on all socials. *

Now, anyone who knows me (or knows anything about AuDHD folks) you won’t be surprised to know that I wasn’t able to keep up with the posting schedule as perfectly as I wanted to and subsequently pushing back a release a day or two turned into it being 2 months since I’ve posted a new video. I’ve had a ton of major life changes that happened over the last 3 months that kinda beat out my neurospicy brain when it comes to blame for falling off track. However, through all of the hott mess and dumbfuckery, I’m incredibly happy and excited for what’s to come.
In this episode I had the privilege of chatting with Doug Blecher, founder of Autism Personal Coach and host of Autism Stories, a podcast that has been an incredible showcase for just how varied people on the autism spectrum are. In addition to Autism Stories, Doug also hosts a podcast that celebrates autistic joy by allowing autists space to info dump and share their excitement over their passions. In this episode I had the pleasure of chatting with Stephen Brodeur - a fellow late diagnosed autistic navigating a neurotypical world full of illogical rules and no playbook for us, the clueless. We dive into how capitalism, ableism, and basically all of the -isms are tied to the colonial mindset (aka palm colored supremacy) and how we need to be unafraid to question how and why things are the way they currently are.
In a system that only benefits the rare few, why do the majority of humans continue to buy into it and sell their lives for the edification of the scheme we call "civilized society?"

He is a Film Director, Director of Photography and Digital Colorist. “My goal is to create art that represents how diverse the world is around me. I want to help those who don’t get to express their creativity be seen by the world. I believe that one of the best art forms to do that is through filmmaking.”
Join us as we discuss the importance of understanding and considering the role intersectionality plays in how autism presents in different people. Through his art, Tré hopes to showcase the fully formed, three dimensional lives of #ActuallyAutistic people and ensure our representation does not continue to frame autism and autistic people as a burden. Autistic people are not defined by our deficits, and it is time we highlight the many brilliant ways autistic people can positively impact our society.

In this episode I had an opportunity to chat with Dr. Lilith Butler. I'm so excited to share this conversation with you all as it is something that I have hinted at in the past but haven't had a chance to fully expand on. My journey through spirituality is integral to my growth and understanding that I am inherently different than what is considered the norm.
