The dream was to produce apartments at a lower cost and in sufficient numbers to bring down rents and make housing affordable for everyone. It's not a small task, it's akin to building a unicorn company. But I believe that with tenacity and the right team, we can make it happen. Some may criticize our approach, saying our goal is too lofty, too grand. But I believe in aiming high and making a substantial, lasting difference. I remember the moment it dawned on me, the gravity of the housing affordability crisis in America.

    The realization was profound, and it solidified my resolve to be part of the solution. I decided to take up the ambitious task of bringing down the cost of housing, not just for a handful of people, but on a national scale. It meant transforming our company into a unicorn, an aspiration that some found challenging to comprehend. However, I was undeterred. The desire to make a real societal change was stronger than any skepticism. It was a journey filled with challenges and trials, but armed with a growth mindset and a dedicated team, I knew we could make our dream a reality.

Skepticism turned to determination as we learned to question the status quo and strive for continuous improvement. But little did we know, this journey would lead us to an unexpected twist, a twist that would forever change the way we approached productivity and innovation...

    I remember when I first stumbled upon the concept of Lean, a method invented by Toyota to boost productivity. It was a tough period, a time when the company was at a crossroads, and we were desperate for a breakthrough. We'd been hitting wall after wall, and the pressure was mounting. I recall the initial skepticism, the raised eyebrows, when we decided to partner up with Toyota to bring Lean into our operations. Cold feet, nervous laughs, it was all there. But we pushed through, driven by a collective desire for change, and a belief in ourselves. I'll never forget the first time we had a Toyota consultant come in.

    Wearing a hard hat and carrying a clipboard, she walked through our site, observing our work and our people. We received a crash course on 'Lean' - identifying waste, focusing on the process, not the results, and striving for continuous improvement. It felt like a risk, a leap of faith. But we were committed to turning things around, and it began to work. Seeing the changes, the improvements, it was like seeing the first rays of dawn after a long, dark night. It was then I truly understood the power of questioning the status quo and relentlessly seeking improvement.

But in the face of adversity, we embraced innovation. We drove down expenses, optimized the supply chain, and even developed our own investment platform. And then, a bold move changed everything. This is the story of how we disrupted the industry and reshaped the future. But what was the audacious question that sparked it all? Stay tuned to find out.

    The world of construction is one I've been trying to reshape, doing away with outdated practices and financial hurdles. I remember the time we were grappling with the rise of inflation, high interest rates, and skittish banks, and our conventional funding approach seemed to crumble. But adversity fosters innovation.

    We devised strategies to drive down expenses, improve productivity, optimize the supply chain, and reduce materials cost. We also explored untrodden paths to raise capital, even developing our own investment platform to democratize real estate investing. It was a bold move, but it felt right. I recall when we embarked on a journey to disrupt the status quo in the construction world. It was a time when simply adding more people to the problem did not solve it faster, and we found ourselves tripping over the numerous changes we had initiated.

    We had to pause, evaluate, and organize. But the biggest risk we took was when we decided to establish our own precast concrete facility. You can't get it done in time, they said. But we proved them wrong. Today, we're one of the few companies in the Midwest doing precast concrete, and it all started with that audacious question, What if?
