Running With The Stars
Marcus Aurelius said, "The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it." And in that moment, beneath the endless sky, the man understands that his life is just another form of light, part of something far greater than himself.
And yet, there’s the loneliness. That crushing, quiet loneliness that creeps into every human heart. Maybe it’s because we know—deep down—that we’ve been part of something so much bigger. We’ve been scattered across time, exploded from the heart of a distant star. And no matter how deeply we love, no matter how hard we hold onto one another, it’s never quite enough to fill that emptiness.

The Last Leaf: A Stoic's Journey Through Autumn
The wind carries the scent of the forest through the window. Outside, leaves fall like memories, swirling softly to the ground. It’s autumn again. A season of endings and beginnings. A reminder that everything we hold onto must one day be let go.
Welcome to the Copinghagen Podcast, where we explore the quiet beauty of life through the lens of stoic philosophy. I’m Patrick Cullen, and today we’ll take a journey into the woods, where a single tree teaches us about the art of letting go, about the fragile balance between holding on and surrendering. So join me as we reflect on the wisdom of the Stoics, and on how to navigate the slow, inevitable changes of life.
The scientists had measured it. The speed of autumn. From the far north of Norway, as the golden leaves turned to amber, drifting south like a slow breath, the season fell towards the Mediterranean at just 4 kilometers an hour. A measured descent, like life itself, with a pace that seemed gentle, but was inevitable. Inescapable.

Whispers to Tomorrow: A Stoic Reflection on Love and Loss
Welcome to the Copinghagen Podcast, where we explore the deeper questions of life through the lens of stoic philosophy. I’m your host, Patrick Cullen. Today’s episode is one of personal reflection, a message for my daughter—a meditation on love, loss, and the fleeting nature of life. As the Stoics remind us, nothing is certain, but in that uncertainty lies beauty.
This is Whispers to Tomorrow.
There’s a weight in the air today. A stillness that echoes with the fragility of life, with the moments we try to grasp, knowing they’ll slip away. I want to speak to you… to my baby girl. You’re only one year old, but already, you’ve filled my heart in ways words will never fully capture. You are the most beautiful, most wondrous, most indescribable element of my life. And yet, I know… I may not have the time I want with you.
No one ever truly knows how long they have. “We are like leaves on the wind,” as Epictetus once said, “carried by forces we cannot control.” None of us knows when our last breath will come, when our heart will beat for the final time. This is the truth that I must face, and one that I want to share with you, even if these words reach you after I’m gone.

Of Love and Firewood
Welcome back to the Copinghagen Podcast where we use ancient wisdom to try and find our way through modern life. I’m Patrick Cullen, and today, I have a story for you. It’s a simple one, but it carries the weight of all those things we never say—the things we keep buried deep.
It’s about love, guilt, and the choices we make when we’re trying to do right by others, and by ourselves. This story might remind you of something you’ve lived through, or maybe something you’ve lost along the way. At its heart, this story is about what the Stoics called "amor fati"—the love of fate. To accept what happens, to love even the hardest parts of life, is the path to peace.

The Quiet Struggle
Welcome to the Copinghagen Podcast. I’m Patrick Cullen. Today, I want to talk about an old, familiar presence in our lives: temptation.
Temptation is no stranger to us. It’s been with us from the start, a companion on this long journey we call life. We meet it again and again, each time in a different guise, but always with the same intent. It whispers promises of ease, of comfort, of a moment’s reprieve from the weight of our burdens. But those promises are rarely kept.

Concrete Dancing: Breaking Free of Loneliness with Stoicism
Welcome to the Copinghagen Podcast, where stoic philosophy guides you through the maze of modern life. I'm Patrick Cullen.
Today, we dive into the heart of a profound human experience - loneliness. That hollow echo within us, where the voices of others seem to fade into whispers, and our own voice struggles to break through the silence.
Loneliness. Feeling alone. Unable to open up. Feeling locked in. Standing still, though you can hear the music’s beat, wanting to dance but paralyzed, with feet like concrete. These moments can consume us, trapping us in a cage of our own making.

Ego and Insecurity: A Stoic Path to True Confidence
Welcome to the Copinghagen Podcast, where we navigate the tumultuous seas of modern life with the ancient wisdom of stoic philosophy. I’m Patrick Cullen, your host, and today we’ll be exploring a deeply personal and often misunderstood aspect of our lives: the ego.
Ego. The word itself conjures images of arrogance, self-importance, and hubris. But beneath this façade often lies a different story—a story of insecurity, self-doubt, and the struggle for self-worth. In our quest to protect our fragile self-esteem, we can sometimes inflate our ego to shield ourselves from the world. This defense mechanism, while well-intentioned, can ironically lead to the creation of a selfish, unapproachable image, alienating us from others and from our true selves.
