  • Join us as we chat with Bill Laukitis, Rye River’s head brewer, and analyse their Big Bangin' in full detail.

If you’re not familiar with the Brewmaster Series, this is one for the homebrewers and the beer geeks! We invite a head brewer to fully break down the beer recipe of one of their signature brews, from start to finish. We provide a homebrew recipe too, so if you’re a homebrewer you can have a bash at brewing it yourself! This episode sees us analyse Rye River's Big Bangin' IPA in full detail, talking through everything from its water profile, grain bill, mash and hopping schedule, all the way through to fermentation and packaging.

This episode is slightly different to our previous podcast episodes, as it was recorded during a live online event that we hosted previously. We shared the recipe on screen as we chatted through it, so you may hear some references to that. Unfortunately we can’t do that on the podcast for obvious reasons, but the recipe is available to download below.

  • In this episode of Strong Core we're joined by Mark Lucey, owner and head brewer at Lineman, to have a chat about Astral Grains, their Foreign Extra Stout.

We chat all about the beer, as well as Mark's reason for brewing it from the outset, and the FES style itself. We also discuss the differences in taste between it being carbonated and served on nitro (and discover there was once a cask of it!!)

We may even have a little surprise announcement at the end of the episode too...

I caught up with Mark in a much busier than anticipated (which was great to see!) L. Mulligan Grocer’s in Stoneybatter, and asked him to introduce himself, and tell us a little bit about Lineman.

  • In this episode of Strong Core I was joined by Richie Hamilton, Head Brewer at Hope Beer, to have a chat about their flagship Session IPA Hop On.

The beer name, Hop On, was inspired by the true story of how two young lads from Dublin hopped on the dart at Howth Junction, and eventually found themselves in New York City, via the UK. What makes it all the more impressive, is that they managed to do so without having either tickets or passports.

Nothing to Declare - The RTE documentary about the story

I spoke with Richie within the Hope Beer tasting room, located within the brewery, overlooking their impressive brewhouse. You can check out both the brewhouse and have a tasting of their beers all as part of their brewery tour, bookable on their website.

  • What's the Craic?

If you're not familiar with Craic already, we are a Beer Community that champions independent Irish beer, and showcases the amazing talents of brewers all across the island of Ireland. We've been running a range of online and in-person events over the past few years, which have helped beer fans to connect with breweries, hear a bit about their story, and most importantly, taste some of their delicious brews. We also have a social community platform where you can get involved in the beery chats, and keep up to date with events and general news from around the Irish beer scene.

We have a really interesting mix of beery chats lined up for the podcast, from beer travel to home-brewing, and loads more in between.

Our Beer Destination series will see us visit various towns and cities across Ireland, and chat with the good folks who make the beer scene tick in that area. We'll be chatting with brewers, publicans, people in the off trade and everyone else involved.

The Strong Core segment is a short and snappy piece which highlights a single beer from a brewery's core range.

The Brewmaster Series is one for the homebrewers. This is where we get real nerdy folks! We chat with a brewer who breaks down one of their signature brews in full detail, so we're talking from water profile to dry hopping schedule, plus they provide a homebrew recipe too so you can have a bash at brewing it yourself!

The Industry Spotlight shines a light on a specific person from a whole range of roles across the beer scene. This could be anything from raw materials to packaging, distribution to serving, and loads more in between.

A huge thanks to the brilliant Arms That Fit Like Legs for providing the theme music for the podcast! The track is "You Will Go On My First Whistle", a nod to legendary Gladiators referee John Anderson. Links:
