    John 18: 33b-37 - 'Yes, I am a king.'

    - 549 (in 'The Signs of the Kingdom of God') - By freeing some individuals from the earthly evils of hunger, injustice, illness and death, Jesus performed messianic signs. Nevertheless he did not come to abolish all evils here below, but to free men from the gravest slavery, sin, which thwarts them in their vocation as God's sons and causes all forms of human bondage.

    - 600 (in 'Jesus handed over the according to the definitive plan of God') - To God, all moments of time are present in their immediacy. When therefore he establishes his eternal plan of "predestination", he includes in it each person's free response to his grace: "In this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place." For the sake of accomplishing his plan of salvation, God permitted the acts that flowed from their blindness.

    - 217 (in 'God is Truth') - God is also truthful when he reveals himself - the teaching that comes from God is "true instruction". When he sends his Son into the world it will be "to bear witness to the truth" (abbreviated).

    - 559 (in 'Jesus' messianic entrance into Jerusalem') - Jesus conquers the Daughter of Zion, a figure of his Church, neither by ruse nor by violence, but by the humility that bears witness to the truth (abbreviated).

    - 2471 (in 'To Bear Witness to the Truth') - Before Pilate, Christ proclaims that he "has come into the world, to bear witness to the truth." The Christian is not to "be ashamed then of testifying to our Lord." In situations that require witness to the faith, the Christian must profess it without equivocation, after the example of St. Paul before his judges. We must keep "a clear conscience toward God and toward men."

    Luke 20: 27-40 - 'In God all men are alive.'

    - 330 (In 'Who are Angels'?) - As purely spiritual creatures angels have intelligence and will: they are personal and immortal creatures, surpassing in perfection all visible creatures, as the splendor of their glory bears witness.

    - 575 (In 'Jesus and Israel') - Many of Jesus’ deeds and words constituted a “sign of contradiction,” but more so for the religious authorities in Jerusalem, whom the Gospel according to John often calls simply “the Jews,” than for the ordinary People of God. To be sure, Christ’s relations with the Pharisees were not exclusively polemical. Some Pharisees warned him of the danger he was courting; Jesus praises some of them, like the scribe of Mark 12:34, and dines several times at their homes. Jesus endorses some of the teachings imparted by this religious elite of God’s people: the resurrection of the dead, certain forms of piety (almsgiving, fasting, and prayer), the custom of addressing God as Father.

    Mark 12: 38-44 - 'The poor widow has put in more than all.'

Our attitude to our neighbour will disclose acceptance or refusal of grace and divine love.     John 2: 13-22 - 'Destroy this Sanctuary and in three days I will raise it up.'

    - 583-584 (In 'Jesus and The Temple) - Like the prophets before him Jesus expressed the deepest respect for the Temple in Jerusalem...Jesus went up to the Temple as the privileged place of encounter with God. For him, the Temple was the dwelling of his Father, a house of prayer, and he was angered that its outer court had become a place of commerce. He drove merchants out of it because of jealous love for his Father: “You shall not make my Father’s house a house of trade. His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for your house will consume me.’” (abbreviated)

    - 586 (in 'Jesus and the Temple') - Far from having been hostile to the Temple...He even identified himself with the Temple by presenting himself as God’s definitive dwelling-place among men. Already now in this present life he gives a sign and pledge of this by restoring some of the dead to life, announcing thereby his own Resurrection, though it was to be of another order. He speaks of this unique event as the "sign of Jonah," The sign of the temple: he announces that he will be put to death but rise thereafter on the third day.
