This week Pip is joined by the acting treasure who is currently starring in 'Death Of England: Michael' - it's THOMAS COOMBES!
On that subject, you'll hear a lot about Death Of England in this ep as Thomas breaks down the prep and schedule of the whole thing (three individual plays, one of which he is the solo star) which sounds utterly gruelling... Aside from that, the whole project is a magnificent work and for sure deserves viewing and attendance. Otherwise, Thomas goes in on a ton of his other roles, including The Acolyte, Boiling Point and Baby Reindeer, as well as celebrating the goodness of Stephen Grahame when the chance arises. A great chat and definitely something for all, especially those of actorial interest.

This week Pip is joined by podcast pal and Hardcore Listing homie STU WHIFFEN to celebrate the life of one of the most unconventional but most memorable soundpeople in the game, who sadly passed on in the middle of this year - SOUNDMAN JIM!
You'll notice that there are exclamation marks still present there on the intro words. Well, to anyone who was fortunate enough to cross paths with Jim, you'd know that while his absence is incredibly sad and is mourned in full, his presence in life was one to truly enjoy and always brought light and laughter to those around to absorb it. In this episode, you'll hear a nice few anecdotes about Pip and Stu's experiences working and socialising with the legendary human, and while this isn't someone who is a celebrity, famous, or a name that everyone will recognise, it's a really lovely chance to be let in on a side of life that you might not otherwise see. I'm sure we all have some kind of iteration of a Jim in our lives, whoever that may be for you, so you might relate and really enjoy hearing about the man, but if not, feel free to join in on hearing about someone who genuinely meant a lot to many people and was such a big part in a lot of folks careers - including the old Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip days! This was their first appearance on Distraction Pieces, the first of many it would turn out, and is one of the episodes you might have heard Pip cite many a time on subsequent episodes. One thing to bear in mind is that this is from almost 10 years ago at this point, and at this point in history we are now at episode 570+. So as you can well imagine, a LOT has been discussed since, much has been learned, many perspectives have been sharpened and multiplied, and we've seen a huge amount happening in the intervening years. An amazing meeting this week with Pip and Michael, a man whose experience and knowledge will come shining through immediately upon listening. As a founder of Stonewall (with Ian McKellen), ex-member of European Parliament, activist and former actor (those of us who grew up on Eastenders will remember him as Colin), his life has been a genuine document of ups and downs, highs and lows, but all navigated with love, conviction and positivity. His story is moving, uplifting and at times incredibly unfair, but as you will hear - from all of this, pure goodness has been his reward. Over 30 years of his journey has been underpinned by long term partner Paul, who is unfortunately no longer with us but as you’ll hear, is spoken of by Michael with such love and compassion and it’s pretty much impossible to not be stirred by - well, the whole conversation, let’s be frank. The rest is yours to discover - listen, learn, and become better acquainted with a strong force for good in the world. Welcome, Michael!

Dear listener this is indeed not the case, and to ignore on that basis is to ignore an extremely fascinating, deep and also FUN chat with the wonderful Picklebee!
