PART THREE
We conclude our chat with Malky as he moves to Cardiff and we broach the subjects of serial stalker Don Cowie's contract, club loyalty or lack of it to players, managers and vice versa, Malky's first season with Cardiff and a league cup run all way to the final and penalties and making the play offs, the Hanger Lane Gyratory system, the famous Cardiff kit change, signing former hornets, winning the Championship, life in the premiership before an acrimonious departure.
We hear about Malky being in the opposition dugout as for Wigan Athletic as Sir Elton John opened the SEJ Stand and catching up with the former chairman after Malky left and at the concert at Vicarage Road where he gets name checked, plus a journey through his Scotland FA role as performance director and some other former Queens Park connections at the heart of technical/coach education departments across the world.
Taking his high performance principles to Ross County we find out about a Hornet that Malky had on loan plus and hear about his new role as Sporting Director of Hibs - starting with recruiting the new manager. We then hear about the time when as SFA Performance Director he had a game in charge of the National team.
We finish off with our quick fire round which as ever brings about tales of lecturing the Brazilian National coach (and others) and makes wonder what Jennifer Lopez would make of Italian Truffle cheese! Then Carl solves his IT problems finally gets himself on the screen just as finish!!!
Malky got into the rhythm of our normal nonsense straight away and great fun from start to finish and we can not thank him enough for giving up his evening to reminisce about his career and of course his time at Watford. An absolutely top fella!

PART TWO
We carry on a hugely enjoyable conversation with Malky by finishing off his "1 in 10" with stories of the great and the good including a certain goal from a certain defender we all loved. We discover which player he tried to take to Ross County twice, plus a couple of players who he knew from Watford and managed at Cardiff.
In light of Clev's stepping into management we discuss Malky's experience transitioning into coaching and the mentors and experience of temporarily leaping into the hot seat, understanding the demands and the different stakeholder requirements. The importance of the inclusion of players and staffs families in a holistic management style is discussed plus attention to detail leading into the 2006 Play Off finals and Bouncy Castles!
The appreciation of local derby matches and the differences between rivalries around the country before we go into the play off final memories when Malky achieved a third consecutive promotion to the top flight and the celebration discussion that assured Malky that, this time, he would be getting to play in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers appointment and the ways that Malky assisted him and the things he took from the now Celtic manager are covered despite the obvious disappointment about not getting the first team manager role initially. Malky explains how he would get the effort levels from a group of players consistently highlighting the importance standards and values being set and lived by. The cast and characters behind the scenes when the club was perilously close to administration are revealed and the roles and names of those that prevented it from happening are celebrated. Perhaps a lesson not to forget plus words from GT and memories of the great man.
Finally we get to owners and Malky's eventual departure from the Hornets.

We get a chance to chat with former Watford player, coach, interim and permanent manager - Malky MacKay!!! Now Sporting Director at Hibernian he provides a unique perspective at the looking at football and our football club from a number of different but all informed perspectives.
We find out about Queens Park, Malky MacKay Senior who has a story so solid it was launched as a book this week which may or may not have had Irn Bru available at the bar! We go through Malky's early playing days for the spiders some of the characters there, whilst working at Bank of Scotland before his move to Celtic, we find out about the highs and lows of the Auld Firm Derby, the culture clash of moving to Norwich, getting promoted and then being sent to Coventry before ending up at West Ham to be promoted for a second time! We hear how a "a guy from little Watford" who kept pestering Alan Pardew to get Malky to Watford!! (Spolier alert - he signs!). Malky recalls the environment where if money was short - the environment was certainly rich!
We start off the usual 1-10 nonsense with a selection of players and coaches from Malky's time at the Vic and elsewhere and sees some special stories and memories and Carlos puts on a bet for a closed season transfer!!

Justin, Carl & Pete transfer their inane utterances from Watford towards England as we head for the Euro's this summer. Having fallen sceptical of England and the endless friendlies and Nations League games Justin and Pete need Carlos to help regenerate some enthusiasm for the three lions.
It transpires amongst other things that the government stopped Carl traveling to Japan, Justin knows astonishingly little about the Premier League (other than he doesn't like Crystal Palace) and Pete doesn't know how the Chile national anthem really goes - but other that this is a reassuringly underwhelming start to our England coverage!!

We come together to try to finish off 23/24 by going through and revealing the winners in the various season long competitions and start a couple of new competitions at the same time (but not very well)!!!! On the way we talk about the Fury/Usyk fight, teams coming down from the Premier League and those coming up from League 1 and get to realise how detached from the goings on at Oxford United Justin has been for the last 30 years! We also find out what we all think of podcasting bearing in mind we haven't spoken about the subject before! Go figure!!

We find out what the Plymouth Marine Aquarium, Vicarage Road pitch lamps and the Aurora Borealis have in common plus Justin tells us about Icelandic naming conventions and the hosts announce their Icelandic names with varying degrees of certainty and pride/shame before Carl takes us Ghanabound!! It’s fair to say we didn’t start this pod very well!!!
Eurovision is discussed and Justin’s opinions are trampled on as we take a guided tour round the history of Bucks Fizz and find out just who is Rita Crudgington, the old TV show Eurotrash and Pete turns on the French and their sporting opening ceremonies, before discussing our best and least appropriate “Dad jokes”, Udinese and that lot up the road!
We discuss the new Sky deal, the 3 O’clock TV black out and the effect that this will then have on kick off times and travelling supporters, we also find out why Carl would charge Justin and Pete to come round his gaff to watch a game!
We then settle the question on clingfilm and tin foil before Carl explains that an NVQ (Level 3) in doesn’t cover how to turn on a vacuum cleaner!
We speak to Sharon from the Pump House and Watford Fringe Festival of which we have inadvertently become a part before we reflect on Justin’s recent chat with former Chelsea and Palace players on the subject of mental heath.
